Our soon to be "Exhalted Leader and Saviour of the World , aka Barry Bigears, will have his hands full ,for sure.

How can any mortal human be expected to correct the blunders of Bush in just 4 years...this could be a 12 year project and require a world war to overcome (remember the Great Depression and WW2?).

Part of the recovery may be the redistribution of wealth in the country. A report I saw yesterday says that 1% of the US population controls 90% of the wealth of the Country.

ONE PERCENT.

One very effective way to even the playing field is to tax the ultra wealthy ONE PERCENT at a FAIR rate, let's say 45%. The guy who makes 100 million a year gets to keep 55 million per year........how much $$$ does anybody need anyway? Isn't 55 MILLION enought to fill the jet and buy the caviar?

The 45 million paid by the greedy ones and others like them could be used to help pay the national debt. created by the REPUBLICANS. at this rate of justly taxing the fat cats, the defict from Dumbo could be repaid in 1,346 years instead of NEVER.

Prior to the socialism, Marxism and Nationalization of private business by GW and Comrade Paulson, I never would have advocated such a thing. Since we have fallen off the cliff as a Nation and we are no longer a free enterprise country, why not take it to a logical conclusion.

Sock it to the FAT CATS, they are the complete and toal cause of the current economic tsunami and they NEED TO  PAY,  instead of getting more $$$ from the BAILOUT.

FAIR IS FAIR.

This is a very polarizing subject. The object is to find a balance wherein the rich pay their fair share without taxing them so much that they will take all of their money and leave the country.

"A report I saw yesterday says that 1% of the US population controls 90% of the wealth of the Country."

As I'm always being told here, where's the link?

Here's the breakdown.

Top 1% pay 39.38% of all taxes.

Top 5% pay 59.67% of all taxes.

Top 10% pay 70.30% of all taxes.

Top 25% pay 85.99% of all taxes.

Top 50% pay 96.93% of all taxes.

The BOTTOM 50% PAY 3.07% OF ALL TAXES!

You think the wealthy aren't paying enough now? I s

Nash,

The bottom 50% can't pay 8%? They pay more than that in sales tax on beer!

None of us, most likely, is currently in posession of 50 million dollars. If I had 50 mil, I would agree.

The states, of course, will increase the sales tax- Any method by which they can obtain funds. I agree. The issue with our economy is that we don't produce as many tangible goods and services that we used to. The tax-base has decreased to the extent that we almost aren't a solvent nation, anymore.

How much are the illegals leaching from us? That's what bothers me most of all.

The great depression got better in 1938, but that's because we actually started war production. Nothing ends a depression like a good war.

Oh, that's right. President Bush told us all that no recession was coming. Never mind.

Spoken like a true socialist. In lockstep with Barry and Joey, wouldn't you say?

We would expect nothing less of you, Donald. Have you considered relocating to Sweden?

So, forty-five percent is "fair", huh? Says WHOM? YOUM? Who died and made you god?

Of course, my pals 'stangg and Hawk are right on target.

I heard someone on the radio (I think it was Levin but it may have been Mark Davis) mention this point:

If Barry wants to rebuild the economy from the bottom up, why is he in favor of bailing out GM (an "evil" corporation)?

Why is he not wanting to bail out the poor union workers and let GM rot in hell?

Fair is fair, let's get a trillion or two back from the Hedge Funds fat cats, including none other than the favorite son of my RWNJ pals, George Soros...you guys know he has a nice Hedge fund empire himself?

Not to worry about our pals on the "wrong" side Nash, they love giving the fatest of cats the largest tax breaks, LOVE spending billions in a BAD war, LOVE deregulating banks and wall street but mention the very thought of spending two bucks on health insurance for children or in giving working stiffs or poor folks a break, THEN they break out in hives and start convulsions as if you had just shot their favorite coon hound.

It is a matter of priorities and the boys on the right (wrong) side prefer to support robber barons, liars, crooks and thieves while those of us on the Side of Truth and Justice prefer fairness and compassion.

YellowDuck

THEY PAY 40% NOW! YOU WANT TO GIVE AWAY NEARLY HALF YOUR INCOME? That's what turned Reagan from a Democrat to a Republican! When he was giving away nearly half his income in taxes, he said enough is enough! How is taking nearly half someone's income supporting robber barons? Seems to me the real robber barons are the ones robbing the ones you call robber barons! That would be the government! AKA US!

Duck...if you feel like it's okay to have the government take 40% of what you make, just write out a check to the IRS and put your money where your mouth is...literally!

BTW,

Parent's need only stop buying JUNK and spend the money on their own kids insurance so WE DON'T HAVE TO!

"Sorry Johnny, you can't have that XBox. We need to pay for your insurance. Here's a stick. Pretend like you're Harry Potter! Just don't poke your sister's eye out. We haven't met the deductible yet"

I am all in favor of "fairness and compassion"...but in the form of CHARITY - NOT government-sponsored THEFT.

Your boy, Biden, is a shining example of the good that can be accomplished through charity. He's given...oops, never mind.

Back in "the good ol' days" (i.e., early 20th century and before), churches took care of "the poor". The government didn't try to take seventy percent from Rockefeller, Carnegie, Ford, Edison and other ENTREPRENEURS. "The poor" were fed and the nation prospered.

WHAT is it about this concept that your cranium cannot process?

But FloydFreak, my Grandfather was in the 90% tax-bracket in the 40's & 50's and was proud of the fact that he could pay that much tax yet still live 'high on the hog'. Tho, that's not to say he 'enjoyed' paying taxes, but he balanced that distaste w/what all that revenue was doing.

Also, I'm pretty darn sure he'd be against this bailout. Period. Plus, he was a proud Republican.

Think how many more jobs would have been created if ole granddad had that money to INVEST in more businesses! At the risk of speaking for your ole granddad, I'm sure he was less proud and felt like there was nothing he could do to NOT pay his 90% fair share.

Heaven help the person that tries to take 90% of my hard earned money! They will get 90% of my foot up 100% of their butt!

what is 90 of nothing?

It's not the tax rates it's how much is taxable after the fat cats slice away yje "taxable income" with the myriad of tax dodges and loop holes passed by the government.

The only purpose of the IRS tax code is to favorite segments of the populationn chosen by Government for "stimulation", protection, or punishment.

The 1% are favorites of the slimeballs in Congress and of Dumbo.
