WW's Musings

I have not been well lately (leg issues).  Back and forth to the doctor, tests, blah, blah, blah...LOL.  Anyway, the hubby was going to pick up something for dinner last night and asked if I would like to go and get out of the house (something I don't do much).  I was like, Heck yeah, as long as it's not another doctor.

We leave, stop for gas, and he heads for Wal-Mart.  Fine with me.  It's just us, we'll grab a few things and be out in a jiff :)  Yeah, right.  it IS Wal-Mart, after all...LOL  So, we do our little bit of shopping, deciding what we want that's quick and easy, he rolls me quickly through the bakery so I don't see the cupcakes ( I saw them anyway...LOL).....Then we find the most reasonable line we can.  They were flippin packed!!

So, we're in line waiting for our turn,  just talking about this and that, and I feel a slight tap on the back of my chair.  No big deal, it happens.  Now it's our turn to self-check out.  He takes the items from me ( I carry, he pushes ) and puts them on the belt and starts to check out.  I feel another tap, harder, and I start to roll.  I lock my brakes.  I feel several taps on my chair and then a slight push.

I tried to turn my head and see behind me, but all I could see was the basket, right against my chair.  I asked my hubby if this is an adult with this basket, he looks at them and says Yes, but they don't care.  I said, loudly, Oh, I thought it must be a 6 year old the way they're acting.  I feel several more taps on the back of my chair.  So, I unlock my brakes, turn my chair and look right at the lady.  She is to the side of the basket, her hubby is leaning on the push bar and there's a small child in the seat.  How much would you like to bet they don't speak English???  Not one to make much of a scene, I didn't say anything to them.  But, I guess the look on my face was enough, there were no more taps or pushes after I turned back around.

My thing is, how do you just KEEP doing someone that way??  You KNOW when you're too close to someone.  I mean, I've bumped people in line, I reckon we all have.  I apologize, back up, and try not to be stupid enough to do it again.  But, why would you just stay right on someone and just keep on and on bumping them??  I guess I will never understand, since I have a polite mentality.  How about y'all???

I am extremely non-confrontational...LOL...I was really shocked that the hubby didn't go off on them. He can be very confrontational...LOL...And, he's extremely protective of me. I'm glad he didn't, though. It's always embarrassing when he does...LOL

I'm a stickler for manners and personal space.

I've noticed non-Americans are real bad about invading personal space.

I'm like you, though, usually just give the stink eye. If that doesn't work though, I'll say something.

It's like 10 times worse to do to someone in a wheelchair. If they didn't speak english, I think the middle finger is universal and should have been used in this case. LOL

I am usually non-confrontational, too - but I do have my limits. Repetitive stupidity is one of them - invasion of my "personal space" is another.

BOTH?!?!?

I think that would have set me off. I don't think I would have SAID anything - that probably would have been a pointless argument. I WOULD have pushed their basket back toward them, though. Maybe said "I'm sorry - excuse me" while I did it.... But I really think that would have sent me over the edge.

Seems the older I get - the smaller my "edge" gets.....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

LOL...You're probably right

I had just told the hubs that I was going to do just that to the next person that stared at me like I had two heads. I told him it was a heads-up before I got him into a fight, he said ok...LOL. My father-in-law was in a chair and I understand now why it used to make him mad.

I had hoped they would get a clue what I applied the brakes after they pushed me. But, then they just seemed to push a little harder. I was so mad, I fumed all the way home...LOL...I don't know why he didn't go off on them, he usually does. but, they should be glad my youngest wasn't there, she's her daddy's daughter all over and she would have...LOL

I'm surprised hubby didn't do something either.

I get so sick and tired of people who have no respect for people's personal space. Like people when you are standing in a line that get RIGHT BEHIND YOU. I can almost feel their breath on my neck. I've been known to step backwards...and if I step on them I'll say excuse me but geez louise.

But, what those people did was flat out rude. I can excuse it once or twice...but after that, I'd probably have done the same thing I_S said...pushed the basket back.

And yes, the older I get, the less tolerant I am of people like that.

People like that are the reason I don't get out much anymore. It's like they think people in wheelchairs are less than people. Hello???? I'm still perfectly viable!! I have brain, it works, mostly...LOL...I can speak intelligently, carry conversations, and even make a joke or two. I'm normal (ok, that's subjective...LOL)...i just don't walk distances. And, I don't have two heads.

I'll be 40 soon, think I'll start getting less tolerant, too????....LOL

you're much nicer than i am, when i'm in line and someone keeps pushing their buggy in my back i turn and push it right back on them..normally it pushes them off balance. i then look at them long enough for them to know that if they have something to say about it they have pushed the right person. it's plain out rude and it's painful.

Yep, it is painful. I wanted to ask them if they thought that just because I was in a chair, did they think that didn't hurt?? I have been poked and prodded, x-rayed and measured, pushed and pulled, stretched and tortured all week, I really didn't need any extra bumps and bruises...LOL

Hi, WW. It is so rude to continue to bump and poke people in line. If I happen to accidentally bump someone in line, I make my apologies and make sure to step back to prevent myself from making the same mistake again.

I mean, it's only common courtesy. I'm surprised hubby didn't say anything, too.

WW you have more restraint than I do,I would have ripped 'em a new one right there and they would have a better understanding of manners lol.
There are so many rude and just plain stupid people around.

Hi Onyx :)

I have bumped people, apologized, then turned to talk to someone a moved and bumped them again...It's very embarrassing to be that stupid...LOL...But, I always make my apologies, and I usually manage not to do it more than twice. And, I really am just as glad hubby stayed quiet, he's very loud and I always just want to hide....LOL

Hey CBW :)

Yep, lots of rude and stupid everywhere...LMAO...I don't say much when I get mad, public or not. I had already managed to piss one lady off by saying something about her rude kid...LOL...Well, I shouldn't be the one to have to teach someone else's kid manners. I mean, really.

did you give your hubby the blue ribbon when you got out of the store for being quiet? LOL he deserves one :)

Um, nope...LOL...But I should have :) It would be the first time...LMAO. I can't tell you how many times he's gone off in that store. At customers, employees management, the cop...LOL

He went off on the cop one day when he went to tell him that someone not handicapped parked in the HC zone. We were informed that Wal-Mart tells them NOT to enforce that law because they would spend all of their time in the parking lot. He said fine, then when the HC zones are full of non-HC people, you won't mind when I park up on the sidewalk...LOL

There are people in this world who behave as though nobody else exists or matters. Part of getting along in public is being polite to others. I raised my children to be aware of their surroundings & to be polite to others. It starts when they're old enough to walk. I used to ask my children to hold doors for older people or those whose hands were full, etc. I'd say, "Hold the door for that nice lady or those nice people". If I saw an adult near them, I'd say, "Let those nice people past you, dears, be careful not to trip them," and other such phrases. Now, such courtesies are second nature to them. I never saw the sense in teaching a 3 year old his shapes & colors if nobody could stand to be around him. It's all a matter of being aware of people around you & being considerate of others. Was it a full-size shopping cart too that was hitting you? I can't imagine a person not noticing something like that. Shopping carts can be dangerous & thus people using them need to be careful that they don't get too near someone else with them.

Yep, it was a regular cart, baby and all. And they were doing it on purpose. They seemed to want me to move up for some reason. They couldn't go anywhere, hubby was checking out. But they seemed to want to go through me pretty bad.
