Immigration Reform? I don't understand.

I know my intelligence level isn't as high as say Bill Gates. But I truely don't understand this immigration reform issue. My Godfather was from Mexico, my cousins whom I lived with for 2 years of my life are Mexican/American. This being said my question is not based on lack of tolerance towards another culture. My question is strickly based on the laws.

I saw the protest last year of all the students walking out of school. I see the banners flying high, equal rights to immagrants. I guess what I don't understand is, are they protesting for the rights of "legal" immagrants or "illegal" immagrants? The reason I ask is because I believe if you're in this country legally then by all means you deserve equal rights. My grandfather was from Canada, so I do have blood from other countries. But if you come into this country from no matter where illegally, why should you have the same rights to this country as your brother that came over the legal road?

I'm not trying to start a huge racial issue, I just don't understand what the upcoming protest tomarrow is truely about. And to tell you the truth, I don't think alot of those kids that are going to walk out of school tormarrow know either.

They won't, just like when they walked on in protest of a Caesar Chavez day, I'm sure most of them have no idea who Chavez is and what he accomplished. It's an excuse to leave school.

And if it makes you feel better, I have no clue what this march is about, but it's too bad INS can't be there to round up all of the illegals that I'm sure will be out there.

THEN WE WILL HEAR ABOUT PEOPLE WHO WERE MISTREATED AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN SCHOOL. I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN AND WE ARE REALLY HAVING PROBLEMS. THAT IS 1 REASON I WAS MAD LAST YEAR THAT PEOPLE WERE EVERYWHERE ON PROPERTY THEY DIDN'T HAVE BUSINESS BEING ON. TRASHING EVERYTHING. WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS WHO WANT TO BE IN SCHOOL? PLUS THE SCHOOL IS PAID AFTER ATTENDANCE IN KERN CO. I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT L.A.

Most of those kids do know why they are protesting. If u don’t know do not try to pretend the rest of the people protesting do not.

THEY ARE PROTESTING FOR ILLEGALS’ TO GAIN AMNESTY OR CITIZENSHIP OR A GREEN CARD OR AT LEAST AN I.D CARD SO THEY CAN DRIVE LEGALLY IN THIS COUNTRY.

The protest has nothing to do with legal immigrants who have a green card or who are already citizens. Legal immigrants are just joining the movement so that they can walk along with their brothers and sisters who are illegal’s and together they can have a mutual voice, for the people who usually have no voice or say in this country.

The lack of empathy of some people who are 2nd , 3rd, 10th generation is amazing. I think that most people suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. This country was built 200 years ago by immigrants for immigrants. So do not turn your back to those immigrants that are in the same situation that your ancestors were once before. In addition, everyone is an immigrant, because everyone comes from immigrant ancestry I do not care how much u wished to deny it because the first one in the Americas were the Native Americans. The Europeans migrated here and claimed U.S.A as their land and took it away from the Native Americans, but that’s another issue.

I stand by my people and I understand their cause. Enough with everyone thinking that they are better than everyone else because they were born in America maybe instead of thinking that way we can start helping others that are less privileged and unfortunate than us.

I AM GOING TO ASSUME YOU ARE ANSWERING ME. THANX FOR THE HISTORY LESSON. BORN HERE YES I DO HAVE RIGHTS THAT SOME PEOPLE HERE DO NOT HAVE. ALSO HAVE FRIENDS WHO LIVE HERE. WORK HARD. Ana, Take a breath I'm not attacking an issue. I also wasn't trying to attack anybody's people.

You should stand by your people and I respect the fact that you do. As far as the kids not knowing what they're protesting about. I didn't say it was a fact, it was in my opinion just like you have your opinon. I'm all for a good fight, and I wouldn't deny my ancestors for all the money in the world. But if you truely want to help and defend your people. You should probably start by trying to educate the outsiders that want to learn. Not attack them for asking the question. If any part of my question offended you, I'm sorry. I tried to make it clear I don't have an issue with immagrants. If you knew, but you don't know, what city I'm from you'd probably agree.

Unlike that uneducated idiot Sweetwater, I prefer to completely learn an issue before forming an opinion. The way I learn is by asking questions. For instance, Why do you think it's fair that gentleman "A" who spent years of political crud to become a legal citizen. While gentleman "B" spent more money than time to get into this country. Why do you believe that they should have the same rights? That's all I'm asking, because that's all I do know about the issue. That's why I asked the question, so that I could learn more details about it. If there's more to it than what I just said, and I think there is then please educate me.

Wrks4me.... This Country was built on the blood sweat and tears of immigrants. Who came here for freedom of religion and freedom of choice. The immigration laws were put into place to protect and safeguard the citizens of this country. Yet, we have allowed to many immigrants to come in. The people who have a legal right to be here can't find work because of the cheap labor of the illegal immigrants. Many who send their money to Mexico to pay for more illegals to come here. Look at unemployment its at a record high. Health care is a huge problem. What about the dieases that have come into this country. We our overburdened and over taxed. I know we need to do something otherwise things will just get worse. The problems caused by illegal immigrants has hurt us greatly. Can we continue to take in all immigrants legal and illegal? What is the solution to the immigration problem. Illegal immigrants don't care about the legal citizens that have a right to live and work in this country all they care about is themselves. They feel because they have jobs here and made this country their home that their illegal status should change. What about the fact that you left your country and came here illegally. You must obey the law. I see illegal aliens breaking the law of this land all the time. Don't illegal aliens feel that they should follow laws here. Of course not for one thing they broke the law coming into this country.

You have all your facts wrong, "unemployment its at a record high" really who gave u that statistic?

Unemployment is not at its record high rather it is in one of record lows 9 out of 10 Americans are employed. The economy is doing better than ever if u do not believe me check the stock market.

No immigrant is taking the job of an "American" where is that happening? -Maybe at your local housekeeper service or in agriculture. Are u kidding me? Do u feel that threaten by illegal's? No one is trying to take nothing away get that through your head they are just trying to get equal rights to be legal in this country. They did not just decided to come here and leave their countries they did it out of necessity and need to feed their families. In addition, many immigrants dream about going back but when they do they see that nothing awaits them but poverty.

Most of the jails are not filled with illegal's and they do not break the law most constantly, & for u to even suggest that is an uneducated statement. Most immigrants are here to work, so guess what leave them alone. They are already here, u can close your boarder all u want but until there is no reason to risk their lives for their families they will keep coming.

This country spent 3 billion dollars in 1999 for a bunch of BLEEP that had no right to be here in the first place.4 million just to house them in prison.What are these BLEEP thinking.How do you think thier kids will feel when daddy has to be deported,dont they care about thier kids feelings?This country was built from hard working whites and blacks that have a right to be here.YOU CANT GIVE EQUAL RIGHTS TO PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.THIER IS A REASON IT IS CALLED ILLEGAL IMMAGRATION.Its so funny how all mexicans think illegals should be here.Fight one bean you fight the whole burritto i guess.I am a law student and very educated.Wake up america or these people will get what they deserve.GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY.

Bottom line if the U.S. acts like the mother of all countries then DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM! U.S. has stuck it's nose in Vietnam, Somalia, El Salvador many more just pick up a history book, not to mention currently IRAQ!!! The gringos went to Mexico in the 60's to recruit my uncle to work in Arizona. Yes it may be a problem now but that's the consequence for being the so called "best" country in the world. Blame the U.S. for buying everything from China. What happened to NAFTA?

I don't have an issue with legal immigrants. I am all for the legal right of immigrants who came here legally. However, if they are illegal immigrants they really have no civil rights here in the USA. The deportation laws of this country need to be upheld. That is why we have immigration laws. Illegal immigrants (of any race) need to return to their native country and apply for a visa then, enter this country legally.

I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE GROWING UP IN A DIVORCED HOME. I'VE LIVED IN THE BARRIO (BAD SPELLER) THE HOOD, AND IN SAN JOSE WHEN THERE WASN'T ANY COLOR AT ALL. MY SON IS GROWING UP IN A PROMINENTLY MEX/AMER SCHOOL. HE IS THE MINORITY BUT THAT'S OK, BECAUSE HE'S LEARNING THE SAME LESSON I LEARNED.

PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE, I DON'T SEE COLOR!!!!

ALL I'VE BEEN READING SO FAR IS MUD SLINGING. YOU PEOPLE ARE SO PROUD OF YOUR EDUCATIONS, AND HOW EDUCATED YOU ARE. YET NOT ONE OF YOU HAS ANSWERED MY QUESTION CLEARLY. YOU HAVE FOCUSED SO HARD ON PUTTING EVERYBODY ELSES OPINON DOWN. NOW HERE IT IS TODAY AND THE WALK OUT IS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE.

SO IF ME AND SAY JUAN ARE BOTH BORN FROM LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, ONE WHITE ONE MEXICAN. WE GROW UP TOGETHER, WE BECOME ADULTS. NOW WE'VE BOTH BEEN PUTTING OUR HEART AND SOULS INTO TRYING TO MAKE THIS GREAT LAND GREATER. OUR TAXES GET TAKEN AND PUT INTO THE SYSTEM, WE BOTH WANT TO RETIRE. BUT WAIT, IN COMES "ILLEGAL" IMMIGRANT "MR. X". HE'S THE SAME AGE AS US, HAS FOUGHT HIS OWN FIGHTS IN HIS OWN COUNTRY. YET TO ESCAPE HIS FIGHTS HE COMES HERE. ALL THREE OF US RETIRE WITH ALL THE SAME BENIFITS BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS.

I recently lost my older brother Steve to lung cancer. My father told him when he was a child to take care of his little sister. And he never stopped, we couldn't have been closer had we been twins. He would have been 49 this month. My outlook on life now more than ever is, life is way to short don't sweat the small stuff. Laugh your way through life.
