Summer of Luke

Much like George from Seinfeld, I have the goal of the summer of Luke. It's the dream summer where everything goes perfect. My perfect summer would be oone with the temperature never hitting 80 degrees. Much like George, my summer never turns out the way I planned. I was just hoping to make it a lot further into the summer before seeing triple digits!
Oh well, each summer day brings me closer to the crisp fall evenings with orange leaves blowing in the wind and the smell of a fire in the fireplace.
If you drive in New Jersey you might have seen our new billboard but for the rest of you I wanted to give you a peak at our Nick Gregory weather billboard. It's up in several places in north Jersey.

Is Fall Really Here?

I've been fooled a few times this year thinking fall was here, only to deal with 80+ degree weather a few days later. I hope it's here to stay. I feel like we're being cheated out of the best time of the year, with the cool, slightly biting mornings followed by a warm but dry sun in the afternoon, back to the cool and biting weather in the evening.
I feel like the leaves are just all going to be gone one morning and fall will be over before it started.

As we all prepare for the snow storm I'd also like you to get ready for some blogging Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. We'll have a snow report blog set up for you. I want snow readings from across the region.
Don't forget to get your digital camera out and snap some photos. We'll want to use some of your photos on the air.
I just hope I can get to work on time!

Fall, finally!

What a great day outside there today. It's finally starting to feel like it's supposed to for late October. It's already snowed in upstate New York, World Series fans have looked miserably cold and we've been in temperatures more appropriate for North Carolina.
The worst part is how high-rises in New York have to turn the switch to heat on a specific calendar day. There's nothing worse than having to crank an ac to override heat pouring out of the vents no matter what the temperature is outside.
Besides, you shouldn't be carving your pumpkin in shorts

It's been a great week to be out in the city. The temperatures are finally to the point where it's nice to walk around.
In the summer I usually want to change again by the time I walk to work. It takes about 5-6 blocks before I feel the shirt start to cling to my back, the internal temperature rise, and I start thinking, "Why do I walk to work?"
Now I want to walk past the office, right into Central Park for a nice lap around the zoo or to the boathouse.
Now, I can't wait for the leaves to change. It's my favorite time of the year.

Weather
I'm not a fan of hot weather. If you've read one of my earlier posts you will know that. But there are times that I don't mind hot weather. This week was one of those times. I was at the beach in the outer banks of North Carolina. If I'm at the beach, enjoying some body-boarding, sand and ocean, I don't mind some heat.
One of the things that I had a chance to enjoy was a dophin tour and there were plenty of dolphins to see.
Dolphin!
Take a look!
I had the pleasure (please note the sarcasm) of walking 25 blocks downtown in the rain Friday sans an umbrella. What a mess. At least I was just going to a restaurant, not trying to get home. I passed at least 2 people on each side of the street on every block standing in the street in a futile effort to catch a cab. Who were they kidding? I saw hundreds of people lined up at a bus stop near the 59th Street Bridge. I was thinking that the bus they may or may not squeeze into wasn’t going to be a fun experience but I guess you do what you have to when the subway shuts down. I almost had my eyes poked out about a dozen times by umbrellas on the packed sidewalks. People in the city really don’t care about other people. At least dinner was good.
I know I'm in the minority but I was miserable in the holiday weather. I don't like it being so hot in May. And speaking of the hot weather, there's nothing more miserable than getting into a taxi that feels about 120 degrees. When you ask for a little air conditioning, it doesn't pour out, it trickles.
When's October going to get here?
