Luke's Blog

It's day one of the Brett Favre "Era" for Gang Green.  I can't help but think this is going to end badly for the Jets.

On paper, this creates a better Jet squad.  It certainly makes the team more entertaining and perhaps a bigger draw than the Super Bowl Champions that share their home.

I just think there is going to be a big chemistry problem on this team and when a 38-year-old quarterback finally starts feeling his age on the field the disappointments will mount.

The Jets need a spark after last year's season, but they don't need something that might very well burn down anything they were building.

What are your thoughts?

I am the eternal optimist when it comes to the Jets, Luke....so take these comments under advisement.
Here are my thoughts, which I will expand upon further(due to present time constraints).
First and foremost, the Jets have instantly become relevant, which is certainly important for a team that shares a home with a team, having a greater fan base(that also happen to be defending NFL Champions).
The Jets actually have become a "national" team.
They did not give up anything to affect hte progress of the future....and if the conditions of the deal are triggered(ie, playoffs, Super Bowl), it means we have had an excellent season.
As to chemistry, Favre has been never known as anything other than a consummate teammate & warrior on the field.
I believe the opposite is true(re: chemistry); without him, the team would have far gretaer potential to be divided, based upon loyalities or opinions on who should be the starting quarterback. The old adage in the NFL is if you have a QB "competition", you really don't have a QB, at all. At least for this year, problem solved.....and, with a high profile, legendary player, who has the potential to flourish in this type of offense.
Yes, he is getting older, & yes his gunsliger approach can be frustrating to fans when he throws that key INT. But, he will be a factor for defenses to consider with his rocket arm, and ability to improvise, like no other QB has.
Teams will no longer be able to crowd the line to stop the run, for lack of respect of the deep threat. Every skill position player on offense(especially Thomas Jones) benefits

The playbook can be opened up, finally!
With the changes made in the offseason to the OL & defense(proper 3-4 prototypes), the team has the potential to come together & challenge for a playoff spot.
I'm psyched!!!

Congratulations to the Jets! You are the beneficiaries of the dumbest, most backwards organization in all of pro sports (just not the NFL). I am from Wisconsin and was a life long Packer fan. However, for whatever reason (mental derangement, drugs, ego, mental illness, etc.), Ted Thompson no longer wanted Brett. He didn't even want Brett to compete for the starting QB position up here. Either Thompson is on dope or he is doing his best to imitate Rachel Phelps (who knows?)

The Jets are receiving probably the best quarterback (in my mind), next to Brady and Manning, in the NFL. If it weren't for Moss going to New England, Brett would be the league MVP. I've watched Brett ever since he came into this league and all I can say is this: he's the real deal. Don't let his age fool you. With the weapons the Packers had this year, they might have gone to the Super Bowl with Brett. Now thanks to Rachel Phelps, they are no better than a middle of the pack team with the quarterback tandem they have now.

You forget what happens when Brett loses motivation and gets tired. Now the Jets can deal with the annual "Do I stay or do I retire" waffling that Wisconsin has had to deal with for years.

Good luck to the Jets. If Brett is motivated he will do a good job. As soon as he loses the motivation..... then you will need all the luck you can get.

Congratulations, Jets fans. Give Favre a chance to get acclimated to the system and he'll do well. By the way, pay close attention to Bubba Franks, I'm sure his stats will improve with the addition of his very close friend.

I don't see why everyone is going crazy over Brett Farve. He is gonna be old and in the way on the Jets. They are trying to insult Joe Namath, by calling Farve Broadway Brett, It should be Broadway Bratt. What a waste of payroll he is gonna bee.

""Crocodile ""Bret-the-Jet-Farve""" I think it is a very good move for the Jets. Farve brings with him his Experience, charisma and his ability to make things happen in the pocket to ponder whether this is a good or bad move for the Jets is like trying to predict where a hurricane will hit land when it is 1,000 miles off shore ya just cant, One thing I cant help keep thinking is how much Bret Farve coming to New york reminds me of when Crocodile Dundee came to New york in the first movie.

Blurredziview. I now see where you get your name SIR. I just read a lot of your post's and 95% of them are with a negative tone. So armed with this information I reach my conclusion you have no idea what your talking about. "I mean no disrespect Sir" but you even say so yourself right here ! """I don't see why everyone is going crazy over Brett Farve""" Bret creates controversy, which is then converted into ticket sales, ticket sales = revenue, revenue = good pay for good players . So with this chain of events I would have to ask you to re-evaluate your hypothesis into Bret the Jet Farve

Jets have a 30 year ticket waiting list so they don't need to sell tickets.

You men, get it straight. I watched R white for all Eagle days and Brett for all his Football Days. This is one of the Men with true heart. He got a raw deal to push him out of the NFl by the team he loved, and he is angered and also down. It will pass, with the eyes on the Field and also the Ball in his Hand. Age is Not the issue, as he has started the games, done the deed, has allot of interceptions, a large percentage not all his fault, as some real poor offense over the years.
The SuperBowl was within the Packer's reach, Now with Thompson and Wolf, and McCarthy games, may they rot. I will still sit in the Packer canvas chair, and read the Pack stats, but I could care less, after their treatment of Brett, where they go...How sad is that, for a fan, and my husband a fan, since Vince...I will havve my signed Farve helmet, signed Books - 4, from Reggie, and all the signed Jerseys, also.
These are two Special men in the world of Football, gave their all for the GB Packers.
I expect some firing the end of the 2009 season, Pack...
You offer a man $25 MILL, Wwho wanta to play the game....You got paniced, and did the Wong thing, again....
NY Jets, after Vinnie, were nadda...let us see if Brett can bring the team together, to get it done...too bad about Chad, that is life, for now...
Better pay, differernt Climate, perhaps.
All the stupid hoopla by the media is garbage, in NYC names, and talk;ignore the Media, as all hype..
I am a PA football lady, was fine with the Eagles in the days of the Dynamic Defense, and Cunnigham, and Not to be, due to the Owner.
So, now, look

True, but he will still increase revenue with everything else. Not to mention all the True Bret Farve fans that will now be Jet's fans. Im my humble opinion I think a 38 year old player these days is like a 28 year old player 20 years ago so age really has nothing to do with it.
I heard last year was one (If not his best year ever?) Is this true? If so, don't you think the Jets made a good move/decision? Basicly what I'm saying is a lot more people will be watching the Jets play this year , I know I will be

I tend to agree with your appraisal on this topic. In reality, the Jets improved their quarterback position, due to the talents of Brett Favre. In watching the press conference yesterday, I was not convinced that Brett was overall pleased to land in New York. I feel he wanted to continue to play football and the Jets were the lone team that really made overtures for his service. It just matters how things start out for him and the team. If there is a lack of chemistry and the team starts poorly, things may fester and turn ugly as the season unfolds. Since I am a lifelong Jets fan, I have conditioned myself to always think the worst. Maybe for once things will work out for the J-E-T-S Jets...Jets...Jets.....but don't count on it.

The Jets have a 30 year waiting list for tickets!!?? Wow! Wow! Amazing! I'm impressed. On topic, I don't see how Brett Favre could make the Jets any worse-off than they were last year without him. I suppose it's possible, but it seems unlikely. How is the Jet's offensive line this year? If the line is great, Brett will flourish.

Being from Wisconsin, and a die hard Packer fan, I say that the Jet are lucky to have him. It was a sad day for Wisconsin when Brett left Green Bay.
