A field nurse told Fox 5's Andre Hepkins this moring that the rising price of gas was really, really hurting her. Looking at the soundbite I could see the pain in her eyes. Gas prices are no joke. A while back, I had a friend who owned two Exxon stations, and he dropped his prices lower than all his competitors. He was issued a warning that he better increase his prices or some commission would shut him down. He said that they are only allowed a small window of play with price adjustments, not to have an unfair advantage.
I'm not sure exactly where the warning came from, but he didn't listen, and they did eventually shut him down.
That seems unfair to consumers that the gas station owners are not allowed to lower their prices even if they want to earn less money!

Thanks for the response.
I had no idea a gas station is forced to charge a certain price. Incredible!!!!
I wonder if anyone else has ever heard of such a thing and good shed some light on it.

Excellent Kathy! I will be sure to check it out. This gas station owner regulation was back in the early 80's; I don't know if things have changed since then or not, but its definitely unfair to consumers!

The gas prices are extremely ridicilous!!! The cheapes gas is in New Jersey. I pay $3.75 per gallon and that is expensive to me. But it is really nothing compared to what you New Yorkers pay.

Also, the government is a trillion dollar industry. That is not right that the guy was shut down for lowering his gas prices. It's all about the dollars. If someone chooses to lower their prices, the government should have nothing to do with that. But I guess, if his prices was lower, then they would get lower taxes, so that may be the main reason, which is still not right.

The reason why we get stomped on by our government is because they know we only protest when their is a racial or other type of issue that strikes an emotion. Why do we stop there?
What we really need is an Al Sharpton-type-economist, to lead us into protests, because the government does not hear us unless we protest in large numbers. What do you think of that?

I always wonder if large protests work. In some cases I think we see an impact but not always. I'm curious what form of protest is most effective.
