Hey everyone. Carlos the Web Producer here. I'm really glad to read all the blogs you have posted (whether I agree or disagree, that's another story).

However, there is something that has concerned me that I want to address to everyone. I've noticed a lot of you posting a portion or an entire article from another news organization (e.g newspaper, AP wire service, television/radio website). This is prohibited and cannot be posted on our website.

If you would like to post an article, make a link to the article. Do not repost. The globe looking button with a chain link is the one you can use to make this link.  Here's an example using a news story from the AP posted on Yahoo!www:

Hey! Read this article about money for the jobless. It's really cool.

Notice I didn't repost the article, just linked to it. That's fine. Do that as much as you want. But, if you post an article in part or in total that is copyrighted, I will delete it without notifying you. It is a violation of our Blogging Policy.

Thanks for blogging.

Sorry Carlos I know I have done that in the past as well, but have been better about it of late, what if I have a story and have permission from the author as well as the original news outlet to post? should I add that it has been approved or still just link?

Thanks Deb

Not to get all cocky, but I think I already knew that.

If any others haven't, I think that's OK. It's better to know now than not at all.

Some of you had some really good questions. Here's my attempt to answer these questions.

1) What if I have a story and have permission from the author as well as the original news outlet to post? should I add that it has been approved or still just link?
ANSWER: If you got approval, you need to courtesy the source. However, make sure you clearly state in your blog post that you got approval from the source. Best thing to do is create a link to the site versus reposting content.

2) Why do my posts get cut off sometimes? Is there something I should be doing to prevent this?
ANSWER: There is a limit to the number of characters your post can be. Once you reach that limit, it won't accept any more. If you are writing some extremely long, try to break it down into separate blog posts based on topic. Usually that will help.

The most important thing is to be careful of copyrighted materials. You never know when an organization will crack down. We don't want you to get in trouble (and of course we don't want to be in hot water either).
