Ok, I have a question for you bloggers.

I have come upon this driving situation three times in the last week. In two of the three situations, I feel I was "in the right" or had the "right of way" but the other driver must have thought he or she had the right of way. So, perhaps, I am not remembering my driving rules/codes of conduct properly.

In a situation where you are coming to a green light and there is a driver wanting to turn right, and a driver coming from the opposite direction wanting to turn left, who has the right of way? The person turning right or the person turning left?

(note, the street they are wanting to turn down is a single lane each direction).

Could buying a Prius right now actually set you back $$ instead of saving money on gas?

Take a look at this article I found on cNet:
Do the math. A nicely equipped 2007 Honda Civic EX with equal mileage carries a suggested retail price of about $18,300. Assuming 30 miles per gallon for the Civic, and 45 miles per gallon for the Prius, it could take around 13 years to recoup the extra money for the Prius at $5 per gallon (assuming 12,000 miles per year of driving). Now I know that there are a lot of assumptions in this formula, but suffice it to say that when you do the math, the Civic seems like a better deal overall--not to mention that the EX has a Sunroof to boot.

Very interesting... maybe i'm not doing so bad with my 2007 Civic!

I know I will make my co-workers feel a bit old with the writing of this blog, but you can all just deal with it. :)

Saturday was probably the first day I've ever been excited to see my auto insurance bill. Ok, so I knew there was a drop in cost when you turn 25 because you're more mature and responsible or something (ha)... but I was shocked at how much mine went down! My policies run from Oct-April and April-Oct (mid month start/end) and I turned 25 in November.

So, Saturday I got the new bill and policy card.

Holy crap.

It went down almost $70 A MONTH!!! That's $700 for the YEAR! (I pay every month for five months of each 6-mo. policy).

This is especially exciting because I bought (or rather, leased) a brand new car last February and at that time my insurance went up because I wasn't driving a '98 anymore. LOL. My insurance is now even less than when I was driving that '98 Ford Explorer!

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Have any of you had a pleasant surprise like that?

Normally, I am a huge fan of tailgating... beer, brats, chips...

Last night... I was NOT a fan.

I was two blocks from home (and it had already been an hour since I left work in Brown Deer)... when the car in front of me started to fish tail. I left enough space between me and this person, so when I hit the brakes, I was not worried about hitting him. (My car is less than a year old and has ABS... can you say awesome tires?)... anyways... I started to pull off to the side of the street because I wasn't sure what this person was going to do.

Well... the full size van following me quite closely must not have been paying as close attention to the drivers ahead of her because she hit my little honda civic. :(

The damage isn't too bad... but bad enough that I'll need to get it fixed - especially since my car is leased - I don't own it.

We exchanged information and were on our way... there's no way cops would come for a minor fender bender on a night like we had.

Now I'm trying to contact my insurance agent for advice on what to do. Ugh...

My baby has a boo boo...

I understand the convenience appeal to having these new parking terminals in downtown Milwaukee (see image below), but what I don't understand is why you'd charge $1 on your credit card so you can park by Cathedral Square for an hour.

It's pretty high-tech, don't you think? And, I believe they're pretty new. At least, I hadn't seen them downtown until this past week when we were looking for parking before heading to Summerfest.

What was most frustrating (and you can't tell in this photo) is that someone had gotten a quarter JAMMED in the coin slot... and since it doesn't take cash, we had to charge 90 cents to park there for about 50 minutes.

We have some exciting new traffic tools on MyFoxMilwaukee.com!

The first of these is an interactive traffic camera map. All you have to do is click on the camera number and the Dept. of Transportation traffic camera for that location will pop up!

Here's that link.

The other cool tool we have is a page with all the traffic cameras in one place.

Click here to check it out.

That's how my Monday started off.

*note the sarcasm*

Less than a mile from the freeway on-ramp, I was pulled over and given a wonderful Monday morning gift - a speeding ticket.

#%$^*

What a wonderful start to the work week.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to visit a friend who's in grad school in southern Illinois. I decided to take the train rather than driving, because I didn't want to drive that far by myself and put that many miles on my leased vehicle... and it will end up costing me about the same amount to take the train as it would to drive...so why not let someone else take the wheel so I can sleep and catch up on some good books?

Here's the thing, though... I've never traveled by train before so I'm a little nervous.

Does anyone have any train travel tips for me?

Thanks!

Bryan Polcyn, eat your heart out...

I was up very late last night...but with good reason -- I got a new car!!!

Never before in my life have I owned a vehicle that was less than 3 years old, so getting an '07 Honda Civic LX is like a dream come true. :)

This isn't a picture of MY civic, but it's the same style and color -- atomic blue metallic.

I'll post pix when I get home from work today (if my back isn't killing me like it is right now!!!)

I tried for about 15 minutes to get my car started this morning! I think the battery is dying -- it just doesn't like this cold weather!

So, when it got to be about 4:40 a.m., I knew I was going to need an alternative route to work.

My solution?

Take my mom's car and leave a note.

Oopsie.

Did anyone else have trouble getting their vehicle going this morning?

Let's just say that my SUV is not a fan of -13 temperatures. After sitting in the cold overnight, it took 5-10 minutes to get going...and stay going this morning!

Just a thought...

If you're going to be a jerk and not clean the snow off your car at 2:30 a.m., and therefore plan to drive like a jerk (I could say something else, but decided to refrain!)...please get off the freeway!

I had to come in early today (3 a.m.) because of the snow, and couldn't believe some of the lazy people in this city.

I'm sorry, but if you won't take 5 minutes to BRUSH the snow off your car (that includes the roof and hood), you should not slow the rest of us down by driving like Fred Flintstone (powered by your feet) on the freeway. The roads weren't THAT bad this morning...and my four-wheel drive SUV could certainly handle going faster than 25-30 mph on the freeway.

Eventually, I was able to pass this fool and drive closer to 45mph.

It just irks me when people are so freakin' lazy this time of year. It's not like you had to SCRAPE ice off...because there wasn't any. It was all snow...

Oh, and P.S. - Using just your wipers does not count as cleaning your windshield.
