I travel 422 to King of Prussia every day for work.

It is not a fun ride, but now that the weather is starting to get nice, I like to have my windows open, especially as i am crawling along the road in bumper to bumper traffic.

My problem is that almost every morning, there is a smoker (or smokers) who refuse to use their ashtray.

The world is not your ashtray--I understand why you do not want the smoke and ashes in your car, but I do not want them in mine either.  I do not smoke and do not want your ashes or smoke in my car!

I am asking all smokers to be more considerate of their fellow drivers, and of the enviornment.  Ashes and cigarette butts do not belong along side of the road!

If you do not want the ashes and butts in your car--do something about quitting, I know it is not easy--but it would be better for you and everyone around you.

Thanks

Thanks for telling me something I didn't already know! Smoking is bad you're right and I'd loveeeeeeeeeeee to quit but its not as easy as you make it sound. I guess you don't have any bad habits, drinking, chewing with your mouth open, snoring, talking on your cell phone while you are drivng all those miles everyday to King of Prussia poluting our environment ALSO with all of the fumes from your car...Thank you for enlightening me, next time I am stuck in traffic I will use my ashtray.

I do have bad habits, and I quit drinking 20 years ago, and I know it is not easy to stop smoking, just as it was not easy to stop drinking (and stay stopped).

And I don't talk on my cell while driving, and I drive a low emission hybrid...

But more important why are you so upset?

All I am asking for is some courtesy, that smokers be more considerate about their ashes, butts and smoke.

Actually, it IS easy to stop smoking if you really want to. I smoked for 22 years and quit cold turkey a year ago. K13071, you say it is hard to quit, but I think you have no interest to. I bet if your doctor told you one of your lungs was cancerous you'd stop and it wouldn't be so hard to quit. My point exactly. And let me tell you something else bandero, I also drive on 422. You pull any of your crazy stuff with me and chuck a cig butt from your car and I even smell it, you'll be looking for your teeth. Whyznott is right about this. We do not need your crazy bullcrap smoking in our faces. Just let me find someone chuck another butt and I'll be going ballistic on 422.

Whyznott, I'll address you first since you seem to have a normal mentality...good for you quitting the bottle, thats a great accomplishment and a hard thing to do and I give you credit. It is very hard to stop a bad habit. Smoking is gross, smells gross, tastes gross and trust me I want to stop. The reason I'm upset is that soooooo many people address this subject and because I'm a smoker I find it annoying. I choose to smoke but do not do it in front of people that don't smoke out of common courtesy. I do smoke in my car when I'm alone in it and I always have my window down because honestly I don't want all the smoke in with me (just being honest)I would NEVER flick my butt on someone elses car, I will usually wait til I stop and then drop it out the window or put it in my ashtray when it is totally done. Now as for "Hamburger"...why are you so nasty? calling me a "bandero"..? what is wrong with you? You can't be threatening people like that.."looking for my teeth?" c'mon now...maybe you need to pick up smoking again..you seem kind of angry yourself..hmmm....People post comments on here, did you not want a reply? Not everyone is going to agree with what you post, expect differences Hamburgerrrrrrrrrrrr : )

Smoking is nasty, it gives others cancer, raises our health care rates and has caused countless home fires, wild fires and other destructive happenings. It makes my clothes stink, my childrens clothes stink and ruins otherwise enjoyable evening out for which I pay. Yes, I wish you luck in quitting, but did you really (think and answer honestly) about anything other than yourself while lighting up?

Didn't you read what I posted? " I choose to smoke but do not do it in front of people that don't smoke out of common courtesy" Not that I need to respond to this but I do not smoke in my house, I do not throw my butts into wooded areasand I do not flick them at cars and as far as the "Health care" situation goes,I'm sure there are lots of other things that are raising our rates. I am an honest person, nothing to lie about..I do know all of the above facts that you stated but still it is my choice to smoke, may be a bad choice, but it is still my choice. I'm usually with MYSELF when I am lighting up. Hope I cleared things up for you...

When the state of Pa stops passing diesel engines through emissions I'll stop smoking in my car. One more thing, the health care rates are rising due to all of these immigrants..ever think of that too?

I know that I quit drinking many times, it was easy to quit, but harder to stay stopped.

I have known people who have quit drugs, alcohol and smoking, and they have all said that smoking was the hardest thing to do.

So I am not going to naive and think that quitting is simple--most smokers know that it is not good for them, but quitting is not easy.

And as for smoking in your own car--that is you choice, my issue is when the ashes and smoke blow in through my windows because the smoker does not want to use his or her own ash tray,or the side of the road for a place to throw their butts.

Not every smoker is so inconsiderate--but this message is to those who are.

As for 422--it is a nightmare drive into work almost every morning! And tempers can run high as we are sitting in traffic and inching along. Let's try to remember we (on 422 east) are all in the same boat, and try to be more understanding about things like smoking, putting on make-up, phoning/texting, eating, and reading the newspaper while driving (like the guy who rear-ended me last month).

You choose to smoke because you are an idiot man. Like I said before, let me see someone chucking a butt and I smell it and I'll hand em' their lungs then take them to the police to pay a littering fine. Oh, I'm cleaning house baby! I aint got time for this BS!! You aint gonna ruin my health and destroy my state!!

Whyznott, I totally get your point and at least you have put it in a decent way. You are right the hardest part is staying a non smoker. Hamburgers, do you understand that you cannot speak to people in a threatening manner? Call the police! Maybe along with the littering fine they can take you in for disorderly conduct. You can't threaten people online, on the roads, anywhere. So far you have made the comments, "I'll be looking for my teeth"..."you'll hand me my lungs"...Didn't you say that you quit smoking? Well, I think you may need to take it up again, you sound VERY hostile.

Are you this hostile with other things that are ruining our state? Are you taking an active role in fixing other problems to make it a better place to live?

I didn't start smoking until 5 yrs ago with the death of my mom. I was 31. That was my crutch...bad I know, but its what a did. There are sooooooo many times I say to my husband, "I want to quit"..I talked to my dr about that new medication that helps you quit, Chantix, my insurance doesn't cover it. I also will say to myself, "The money you spend on smokes you could save for this medication"..but spending $5 at one time is a lot different than spending $180 in one shot. It is all basically excuses, I know this. I don't like my kids seeing me smoke, I don't like the smell of it, I don't like being stuffed up in the morning in my nose and throat from it. I'm not a stupid person but when it comes to this I am. I have cut down a few weeks ago and I'm hoping that eventually I will just stop. Whyznott, I'm not angry with you OR opinion, its the other clown that set me off.

Doesn't a car have more pollutants then a cig.? Even if its a hybrid? And as for people using ashtrays, not all cars come with them, it can cost you up to 500 dollars to get one in a brand new car. If it was a huge deal with people I would think it would be against the law. Btw this is coming from a non smoker. I mean if people wanna smoke, let them smoke. If you chose to be a non smoker then hey thats great for you. Everyone is different. There are too many followers in this country and not enough leaders....

Last time I heard, littering was against the law.

I am not anti-smoking, I just do not like having cigarette butts lining the road and I especially do not like the butts and ashes flying in through my windows.

Yesterday someone tossed a butt out of her window and it bounced off of my windshield, that should not happen.

If you choose to smoke then you should have an ashtray in your car, or something to use as an ashtray.

Holy crap!!! Just chew tobacco, it's gross, but it does not smell up my clothes or restaraunts. I believe that if you get a tobacco related medical condition (cancer/heart disease/emphysema) insuance should be denied. Would that be incentive enough to quit? Think of your kids man.

yea, but then once again people would find an excuse to complain about chewing it. I mean honestly my opinion its a free country, if you dont like smoking, dont go to a bar that allows it. Why complain? Its like someone that doesnt drink, why would they go to a bar. Its always something with america finding reasons to cry and whine about this or that. If everyone is mad about it, go to your government and complain. Do something about it. But remember, if smoking does get banned, guess who is gonna then be taxed? The non smokers. They will find something else to tax to make up for it. They make to much money off of it. As for littering. Do I see blogs about all the trash on the side of the road? How about them idiots that throw gum wrappers, or people at the phillies game that allow the trash to lie around so it can blow on the field? Its something people have to deal with. I think I would be more concerned with violence and protecting my children in other ways then worrying about people smoking in their own cars. Like everything being recalled? I mean whats next? why not complain about peanut butter? Some people are allergic, and it can kill them, so just because the people cant have it, hey lets ban it since it can cause serious health conditions. I see where you are going with it whyznott, it is annoying, but its something we all have to deal with.

Why should we put up with it?

It is a matter of courtesy and being a responsible member of society, showing consideration for other people and for the enviornment.

If someone chooses to smoke then they need to live up to their responsibilities and to dispose of their waste properly.

As a smoker I see where everyone is coming from, it is just being courteous. I do not throw my butts at cars. Yes I guess you can consider it a sign of "littering" but people don't view it as that because its not like throwing a soda bottle out of the window..?Its never been enforced. I don't know, I can't answer for others, but everyone has a good point here, there will always be something to complain about. Now as far as 'movealready'..what restaurants are you eating at? I thought most of them were banned from smoking? another thing, what a cruel statement to say about "(cancer/heart disease/emphysema) insuance should be denied" Do you feel the same about aids patients who have had unprotected sex or misuse of needles? Do they not deserve medical treatment because they brought it on themselves?? Is that how you view things? Homeless people deserve laying on the streets because they have no jobs and you have to work? Thats a bad attitude to have. No one is perfect and everyone deserves medical care, doesn't matter what illness they have.

I completely agree with you k13071. Yes it is common courtesy, but not many people care anymore. As for the health care,I totally agree with you on that note. If its out there, especially legally, why can they deny someone? Plus I dont think that would ever happen anyway. Its a money making market out there. Uncle Sam only cares about getting that extra dollar out of our pockets. But as I said with the smoking part, I myself am talking on a non smoker point of view.
