In the beginning life was created perfect, brothers and sisters of the first several generations would not produce birth defects. All disease and defects are a result of sin. It is thought by some that sin and the resulting fall of man could have been in the neighborhood of a hundred years, most assuredly not in the second week.

Regarding your last comment, I thought sin was created when Eve bit into the apple. It represents being tempted by evil. That's why Adam and Eve felt "shame" for the first time at their nakedness. So sin came before they ever had kids.

Regarding your post, I'm with you in spirit, in fact, I don't think you go far enough. The problems with the bible go much deeper than what you describe. But to play devil's advocate (pun intended) let me explain.

Let's say I'm an historian. I write a book about George Washington. Years later I write a book about the pilgrims. Just because I wrote them out of order doesn't change the fact that one came before the other.

Now, back to agreeing with you: I don't think Genesis is supposed to be a first person account, otherwise it would have been written by god himself and that's not the assumption.

Maybe I am not as clear as I might think. Adam & Eve had many children, it is not known how many. The book of Genesis was a record of the "beginning" of everything as we know it. Therefore no other book could have been written before creation. There was no one to write it. The book was passed down generation to generation, as it is recorded in the book of Genesis. At the time Cain slew Able they were in the "chosen line". Out of which the Isrealites came, which is a direct line from JESUS to Adam. Their were other brothers and sisters not in this line. Lucifer knew that the "ONE is coming to crush your head" (or so he thought) was to be a descendant of Able. Lucifer's influence, he has no real power, on peoples thinking is the reason HEROD had all the Isrealite children under two years of age killed. You remember that don't you.
