URINE TEST
(I sure would like to know who wrote this one! They deserve a HUGE pat on the back!)

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their butts, doing drugs, while I work. . . . Can you imagine how much m oney the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check ?

It makes too much sense. They'll never do it.
But, I could not agree more.

I'll ask as I did on another post like this: What are we testing for? If we're testing for REAL drugs and controlling the problems with crack and meth, then I'm all for this. If this is another way to harass the potheads and make "arrest quotas" then I say no.

PB - it's a way to determine whether these people are deserving of these welfare checks for the simple fact that I, as a taxpayer, do not care to support someone who won't get off their duff to work, but will use MY money to go buy drugs to keep their habits alive.

Just as an employer has the right to choose whether or not to let an employee go based upon illegal drug use, I think all government assistance should do the same. The military does it. Random urine tests and if you're positive for an illegal substance, as well as for a prescription being used that is NOT prescribed to you, they can give you the boot with no questions asked. This I know first hand because my husband serves in the military and he can't even take a pain killer prescribed to me for fear that if he were tested and could not produce a prescription in his name, he's outta there.

So, in all fairness, why should those of us who work and pay taxes support people with drug habits that won't get a job? I don't mind helping out those who really deserve it, but I am not all for helping to support illegal drug use.

"harass potheads and make arrest quotas"? Where did arrests come in? It's talking about keeping those that are using and abusing the system that do nothing but sit on their butts and take our money to buy their drugs. If you are a pothead or crack head or meth addicit or whatever else you are, go get a job like the rest of us and use your money. I could care less what anyone is doing with their own money. Just stop taking from the government and the children.
And you are right quarryshark, they will never do this because it would be too much money for them to test all the 1,000's of people out there. Plus these people are too smart for the system. They will find another way to cheat it.

Reading cleve's story really made me think. I think it's also wrong for working people to be put through this. Nobody should have to be afraid to take a pain pill because of a pop drug test. Common sense needs to be exercised in this or we could end up in a dangerous place. Next thing you know employers will also be checking to see if employees drink or smoke. We've already banned indoor smoking, what next? Employers will have the right to fire someone for smoking?

That's what scares me about this. We are getting into dangerous invasive levels. Plus, I think people pretty much punish themselves when they spend money on things other than food. If that's all the money you have and you waste it, you're SOL and you don't get anymore.

If you have a pain pill legally, you have evidence of a prescription.

Invasive levels? Are you kidding me? These people are using tax payers money to support drug habits. Invasive measures are a great idea!!
If they want to smoke pot, or crack, or shoot some sh#t in their viens. Let them do it on their own "earnings". Not on tax dollars.

I don't know any one on public aid.
I know my sister in law wanted to buy some of my pee about 15 yrs ago for a drug test to get a job. Nowadays, you can't sneak someone else's pee into a drug test.
BTW - I told her if she wanted that job - STOP smoking weed!!

"how many people do you know on public aid that does drugs?"

No one, everyone I associate with works for a living.
Are you saying it isn't true?

Shawty - I've seen my share on public aid doing drugs since I worked in the legal field for many years. Don't know them personally, but have had to work on stuff for their defense (or prosecution) of illegal use and possession, though. So, yes - it DOES happen! These people use the money they get in aid toward their illegal habits.

The lawmakers are too involved with Millionaire sports figure on HGH and Steroids to care about our tax dollars! my wife works for the county. I won't bore you with all of the _hit these people pull just to get out of working. They believe that we owe them these benefits! Are you all aware that a taxi will be sent twenty or thirty miles to pick them up for work assignments? When the taxi gets there, if they don't fell like working that day, the taxi returns to base! Guess who pays? If they get a splinter or blister while working, they get rushed to the ER, then go on workers comp. or sue the county. I say no test, no benefits, PERIOD!

We're not talking about employee's rights to fire or hire here, it's about people in the system using the governments money to buy their drugs. And when they are out of money to buy food they are just sol..well what about the children? Are they SOL also?

Of you think it's expensive now paying these people their checks, imagine the cost of the lab work ON TOP of what is already spent. Analysis and lab work on the "samples" costs money too and I don't want MY tax money wasted piss testing people.

PB, imagine how much money would be SAVED if the one's who can't pass the piss test get the boot...........and are forced to fend for themselves instead of sit on their wazoo's and let US support them.

illegal drugs are just that, illegal.

i, for one would be happy to pay more taxes into this on a temporary basis (1 yr or less) to implement and PAY for a program like this.

PB, are you really comfortable and happy paying for someone else's drug habit?

No Dprin I don't want MY tax money being wasted piss testing people. Who do you think will foot the bill for the "specimes" to be tested? Do you think lab work is free and does itself? I'd rather see the money used to give EVERY American health care.
