I know it's just a number and as a teen I never thought I'd live to be this "old", but here I am, cowering from the oncoming black day on the calendar. I have to admit, I am having a really hard time coming to grips with it. In your 20's people think you are too immature to know anything and 30's people think you are suppose to have a plan for your life. At 40 everyone thinks that you have everything in place and there is not that need to "prove" anything to anyone. Some days I feel like I'm back in my 20's and other day's I feel I could be in my 90's. I was just wondering if 40's was hard for anyone else and how you got through it.

I hit 40 last December and I've been dealing with it quite well. To me, it's just a number. It's all in your mentality and there are times when I feel 14, instead of 40. I always swore I'd never let a lousy number bother me and so far, it's been fine for me.

Keep your chin up - it's just a number and nothing really that big of a deal, actually!

I was so depressed on my 40th birthday. It was awful. I wonder what will happen when I turn 50? Am I half dead? Probably more than half dead! Yeah. Life sure goes by quick.

Survivirmom happy birthday soon???
I just did the 38 mark last week, I can honeslty say I will love turning 40, it's just a number, think back to all the good stuff you did in your 20's and 30's (some we wish we wouldn't of done. lol)Do some thing you've never done but would love to do, or were afraid to do, then when you hit 50 you can think back to 40. And so on.

Yeah - 40 bothered me too - then I hit the 50 mark and I could have cared less. It's like the old commercial - "You're not getting older - you're getting better!" I am grateful for every year that passes - it's better than the alternative! And now that my kids are grown and on their own, my husband and I are having a great time - travelling, volunteering, hobbies, etc. An older woman once told me years ago that after her kids left, her and her husband became friends and lovers all over again. She has since passed, but she was right!!

Every once in a while I'll pass a ball diamond or football field with a bunch of high school or college guys and think back to those days of pain and glory. I miss the glory, I still live with the pain. It has a lot to do with how we treat ourselfs Survivormom. 40 is a breeze and it truly is just a number as many people age at different rates anyway. I just had my 30th re-union a year ago and there were people there that looked like parents of the people I went to school with. Others, like the day they graduated! No matter what, the clock keeps ticking, go with the flow and enjoy 40. Best wishes and Happy B-Day to you and Gamer..

Happy belated birthday WannabQueen and Happy Birthday to you Gamer. That's my birthday also. Now I know why we argue gamer...Leo's...lol!
That's funny that you said that wannabqueen..was just thinking this morning what is something I have never done that I would want to do...still thinking :o). I think a lot like klh, though I am figuring 80 and I have lived half my life already.
Maybe it's just the heat getting to me because after all like you all say it's just a number.
Thanks everyone!

Another comment: Age is all in the mind. I know people in their 70's who are old and decrepit. Then I know a man who is 83 and still travels around the world (he just went to Peru a few months ago), and still goes out hiking all day with all his camera equipment. It's all in having a positive attitude and outlook on life!! Remember that and you will be young forever!

Happy Birthday to you all!! I am 51! I myself can't believe it. To me it seems when I was in my thirties, I was there forever. Then I got to my forties, and it seemed to go on and on, but mid to late forties really flew by fast and it's still flying. I'll be the big 52 in December. Sometimes I fell 80 and other times like I's still 30. Aches and pains are much more for me though! Have to be really good at taking care of myself, life is just going by way to fast!!!!!

40 is the break point for chicks....its 50 for guys...if you dont have it in place by then...its not likely to happen....remarriage becomes virtually impossible...so youre stuck in your present relationship....and who is going to let someone that old into a decent new employment situation.....ha ha ..no age discrimination in the us of a....but that doesnt mean you cant live a happy life...you just have to admit that youll never be a us senator...and that fat person in the bed everynight is mr right

I agree, Life is going by too fast. Think that's why it's so depressing. Trying to get in everything that you have never done before. You never know when your time is up, so we have to enjoy everyday like it's out last.

Happy belated Birthday to you too girlscout and looneysinger!!
