When the first Gulf War was going on alot of talk was made about making a Flag Burning Amendmant to the Constitution of the United States and I was whole heartedly against it.  In a bar in Seoul Korea I had a heated debate with a Korean bar owner friend of mine and several of my fellow soldiers who questioned my patriotism because of my point of view.  At one point I loudly exclaimed that "I will not sacrifice the Constitution for the Flag... when I swore into this mans Army I swore to protect the Constitution of the United States of America and that includes the Bill of Rights."  That statement stopped the debate which had turned nearly violent.  The Korean bar owner I believe started the conversation by mentioning laws in other countries that prohibit un-patriotic acts and asked why America doesn't have such laws.  Later I remember reading that Senator Danforth of Missouri withdrew his support of the Flag Burning Amendmant calling his support of it "A mistake of the heart."

Isn't that what makes this country so great?  We are different... we let the Wrights speak and are given a basis to judge them.

Now as to the fact that many of my fellow bloggers and folks in other forums are ademantly opposed to Reverend Wright and what the man says and /or how he says it I have to admit to havin made a mistake of the heart.  I've known many hard working Christian Ministers who on the surface do much good by helping the poor and the elderly but use that as a liscense to put forth opinions that are not grounded in truth but in pride.  Many of my fellow American bloggers have expressed that Reverend Wright is teaching a gospel of victimization and well...

I agree.

In my heart I believe the good Reverend Wright means well.  But I think that he has let the pride of his great work in the Lord become a stumbling block to his presentation of the Gospel.  But I whole heartedly warn that the patronizing influences of those who think they know better then Reverend Wright how to do the things he and his church have been doing through out the years should look and see that it is exactly that same sort of patronizing influence that causes such ministries to flourish.  The chant "No Justice No Peace" is not just protected by the constitution it is a mandate to act when destructive policies and negligent procedures are the standard.

So are some white's right about Wright?  In one very important way yes... Reverend Wright has made a mistake of the heart and in his pride has done harm to those he tried to help with his life.  Haven't we all done good for a period of time only to turn and realize that our motivations weren't pure?  Haven't we all come to the aid of those we love only to find ourselves enabling them to please ourselves?  Haven't we all made the mistake of attaching to much importance to our being right?

There is a hidden picture which we can't see with our eyes, but if we look between the lines, we can detect it: Satan! Yes, Satan has a way of creeping into things, and destroying them for his own sport. Has he done that with Jerry? Yes he has! Has he done that with Barry? Yes he has! Will he keep doing that to everyone else? Yes he will...unless we pray for intervention! So while we're watching Hillary above us getting ready to heave from Absolut Moonshine, we can all take a moment to ask God to intervene and protect all our leaders!

When holding people accountable for their actions, skin color matters not!

Df - does holding someone accountable mean that it's ok to say they are this or that? We do tend to make snap judgements on people. I don't think that the evidence points to Wright being racist... I think it points to him being a human being who has suffered injustices in his life and reacted to them in the most positive way he knows how.

I really don't take myself seriously to be a racist but I am like most humans very afraid of where this country is going when so many start accusing and not listening.

Crafty- did you even read the whole blog that I wrote before you commented? Could you pleaste point out where I stated that Jeremiah Wright is the white mans fault? If you want to have a conversation fine... let's talk. I wrote a blog describing my feelings and opinions... nothing more. In any case I feel my life experience qualifies me to speak on this issue but what I'm trying to do is understand a bit deeper then the cliche' phrases that get thrown around whenever folks want to talk about race.

Peter,

It looks like you hit some nerves with this blog; it's getting to be very interesting reading some of the responses. I'll say this again: Satan sure has a way to sneak in and undermine any and all of the good intents that Pastor Jerry may have originally had. I realize there are so many things that we are not seeing up front, but as things keep surfacing, it sure looks bad and evil. Hang in there Peter!

Since the Black voters are voting Race, then it is only fair that the non black voters vote race. Obama is so opposite of the beliefs of the black voter it isnt funny. He wants high taxes, he wants no school choice, he wants free abortion, and he wont do anything about BB crime. But the Black voters go to church and hear about Abortion alone and vote for this guy. They are voting color... that is plain stupid. I vote best person. In this election I will hold my nose and vote for a Do Nothing Senator McCain.... the alternatives are dangerous.

(Is the same true of the "white" voters who support him?)

(Oh indeed, why should this election be any different?)

In every single speech to churchs(only in Black churchs since I am white and they pre judge me too) I am met with "I am a victim of White America" and "White people in Government hate us" and other non-sence...
But I mention all that to tell you that the Black America is a mess and White AMerica is letting it happen. Time someone changes that. And the Congress, and Whitehouse and local government doesnt care. - truthguyla blog "My Black church experience"

crafty

you're a blogger not a gangster and god help us if you ever did work for any governmental "get even" agency. But the ole' "I got relatives in the mob" bit is as old as the streets I grew up on so stop with the "we" nonsense since only "you" are talking. I grew up with a fantasy of a "we" society of secretly high placed lite skinned blacks who secretly control the government... maybe that's your "we"?

I am sick and tired of the RACE CARD and it seems that the Democrats are the ones that seem to be obsessed with it, I could care less what color someone is I vote for the person and their stand on important issues, it just happens that MOST people I vote for are Republicans, Hillary is not someone I would EVER vote for and Obama will not win the general election, neither one of these dems will prevail, I will vote for John McCain and press on..............

Oh I forgot to address the so-called Reverend Wright, he is just an angry black man, but not angry enough to have a very LARGE home built in a white neighborhood, this guy is like some of the white preachers that are taking people for a ride, thank God they are in the minority. They always get found out sooner or later. Too bad for Obama, he cannot explain away his twenty years of listening to this guy, HELLO....

Thankyou for on topic comments... my feeling at first was that media folks were wrong to make so much of the story. Reverend Wright however came on and made me see that the complaints on the issue were indeed valid. You know... it is hard sometimes to see the difference between feeling and reason when pride is in the way. I'm very proud of Senator Obama as a black man and for awhile discounted media reservations about his pastor. I now must agree that Obama needs to be honest as to why he didn't leave that church long ago...

I truly think Obama if not for Rev. Wright could have been our next President, but he now has too much baggage, I think McCain in a year when I would have thought the chances for a Republican President would have been slim and none, has real possibilites to WIN. I am hoping he picks a super VP with lots of energy.
