I respect what Fox 2 is doing by following religious beliefs and traditions.  I also respect the fact is St. Louis is a major Catholic town.  However, why not follow a few non-traditional religions?  Why not go to a Buddhist Temple or possibly speak with a Pagan and see what they believe in and follow.  To me, this would open a lot more eyes to the one thing that has made this country great, religious tolerance.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!

Your not suggesting that we live in a pluralist nation are you?

We are Christian foremost, and nothing else.

There is always a blurb about the Wiccans around Haloween. Other than that and the little about Muslims, they stay as mainstream as possible to avoid the question about religion. Like which one is right? There are too many choices for me to decide which one I want to endorse. I have been thrown out of a Baptist church before, so they are off my list already. I also got married at a Baptist church, so they are really off the list. I`ve never met a Buddist that I didn`t like. But wasn`t Chairman Mao Tse Tung a Buddist? Like I said before, too many choices. So I guess I`m Pro-choice.

Weird, good one. I don't think it's a matter of which one is right, but which one is right for you. Isn't a Buddist someone who worships Budwieser? I knew my local pub was actually a church. I think I need to go find a little salvation....

Yeah, Buddhist are Pantheist so a beer can would suffice to worship. Everything is god to Buddhist including yourself. Every one of the false religions tells you that salvation is by some work you do. They teach that you reincarnate over and over until you reach a Zen state. They believe and here is the kicker; that we are non-existent, but exist in a spiritual realm and when you finally get it right Zen. You disappear. They also don't believe that sin is real apparently they haven't looked out the window.

Christianity relies on the work that God done through the work on the cross. Which is pretty awesome because, if you're waiting to see people do good works; you'll spend life in disappointment. Faith not works brings you to eternal life.

I would not say these are 'false religions'. That is too much of a narrow view on life and each persons beliefs.

With Buddhists, they believe they only way you can achieve Zen is to do no harm to someone. If you do harm, you slide back a bit. What is wrong with a faith that promotes a peaceful existence?

Also, with Pagans, they believe in the 3-fold rule: whatever you shall do will come back in 3-fold. So, if you harm someone it will come back to you in 3-fold. Again, promoting peace.

Yes, they may not believe in Heaven or Hell. But there is nothing to prove either one exists. Plus they promote a peaceful way of life which is a great thing!

BTW cocoboa, was it not Jesus who asked that we turn the other cheek and try to be 'Christ like'? Is that not a leap of faith at that point? Does Jesus not want man to do good works or face possible damnation? Just some thought for you...

First I want to say I respect you, though I don't agree.
What is wrong with it is because worldly facts shut down the argument of Buddhism. Buddhist believe that all people whether they recognize it or not are Buddhist and that they continue to recycle life until they get it right. Show me a perfect person and you could support this argument, but I know of no perfect humans other than Jesus who taught us: "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me."-Jesus
Jesus was not all inclusive, in fact he teaches all that are not found in him will go to hell.
To your point about Jesus turning the other cheek: Matthew 10:34, 36 34"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn " 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - 36a man's enemies will be the members of his own household." Compare this with Buddha which teaches we all eventually go to Zen.
The fact is if I'm wrong I'll still reach Zen, but if you're wrong you will not see heaven. I don't want you to think I'm being harsh, I'm being honest. I respect your right to practice whatever you wish; but Jesus came and issued stern warnings against false religions. Not my term Jesus'.
With respect,

I understand what you are saying cocoboa and I respect what you are saying. That is your beliefs and there is nothing wrong with them at all.

I would like to think I do not need a go-between to achieve eternal happiness. For the record, I am not a Buddhist, I just brought that up as an example.

And you are correct, there is no way anyone will know who is right or wrong until we pass away. I would like to think that even though I chose a path that is not mainstream, that all the good I do will far out way the bad.

That way if I am not correct, I will still go to heaven. If not, well at least I will have some friends wherever I may go. :)

For the record, I am a pagan and I feel I have chosen what is best for me. I have had some experiences that confirm I have chosen the correct path for me.

I believe each person must find their own path in faith and follow it. It has taken some time for me to find my path and I hope each person finds their own personal path of faith that brings them happiness.

Here's a question that I have thought about:
What about all of the people in the world who, through no fault of their own, have never even heard of Jesus? Will they be going to hell just because of ignorance? I find it hard to believe that God would not welcome them with open arms if they lived a good and peaceful life. JMO

Very well put, Squirrelboy, you have put the emphasis on what we do as a person in this life as being the determining factor as to whether we have a good life or not. Doing the right thing will bring you peace and understanding in your own lifetime. Being close minded about religion is part of the reason we are having so many problems with the Muslims of this world. The religious right are for the most part radical Christians, the same as the radical Muslims with the only difference being whether you believe in Christ or Allah. Being a good person is ten times more important than being a good Christian, Muslim, or Buddist.

Being a good Christian would in itself help make you a good person. If you follow the 10 Commandments as best you can you are being a good person and a good Christian.
I consider myself a Christian who in no way is a perfect person.
I would rather believe in what Jesus teaches and find that I was wrong (which I do not believe that I am ) then not believe in what Jesus teaches and die and find out that I was wrong.

Simple, agreed. Nothing about Christianity tells us to be a killer, robber, thief or liar.
Weird,
Wars aren't started over religions they are started by men. Please be very clear when you speak about this. Because nobody ever kills in the name of Jesus; they kill in the name of government and use Christ to justify it. But Jesus wouldn't have murdered like the crusaders, nor would he spread the faith with the sword like Muhammad (Quran).
Suirrelboy,
I understand what you are saying: Isaiah 64:6 "All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away." If you believe in Christ as your savior you will inherently do good works. Read James, works are a sign of salvation, but not the cause for it. I believe you are for the most part a good person, but why would God take you to heaven if you didn't want to be with him on earth (church etc). You must agree that if God dragged people into heaven kicking and screaming, because those who worship him do so obediently, If he brought those not wanting God in their lives to heaven in the end, he would be hell not God.

Superjaybird,
That is a very complex question and a good one. No one can know the mind of God completely, but his word gives us some insight. Matthew 7:7 "8 For everyone who asks receives; those who seek find; and to those who knock, the door will be opened." So if you seek truly seek God, God will provide the way.

Further, that is why it is so important to support Christian ministries. But many claim to be seeking truth and sell their souls for lies: Matthew 7:13 "Matthew 7:13 13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Lots of people claim to be seeking God, but their views are worldly, they are not sincere. 21 "21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!" In other words, they claim to be godly, but God is only one; if you are truly Godly you would know him.

Romans 3:5 “5 But if our unrighteousness brings out God's righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.) 6 Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world? 7 Someone might argue, "If my falsehood enhances God's t

continued-
7 Someone might argue, "If my falsehood enhances God's truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?" 8 Why not say—as we are being slanderously reported as saying and as some claim that we say—"Let us do evil that good may result"? Their condemnation is just!” In the end God is Just in his judgment and those who receive hell are self destined.

Romans 3:3 “What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God's faithfulness? 4 Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.” The gates of hell are locked from the inside by the free choice of men and women.- Atheist author Jean-Paul Sarte. 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” God doesn’t want to condemn he wants to save you, but you need to say yes to Jesus.
