Well, it is that time of the year, I am ready to crawl under a rock and hide. Yep, American Idiot is back on TV and there is no escape from it. Someone give me a sharp instrument to poke out my ears!

I almost have to walk away from my favorite news crew, Fox 2, to get away from the show. How can American Idiot be considered news? Come on folks, it is just a REALITY TV show! There is no talent on this show. None, zip, nada!

Case in point, the LOUNGE SINGER who won last year. Can he dance? Nope. Can he play an instrument? Nope. Can he write his own music? Nope. Not one American Idiot can do any of these things.

Do you want a real talent show? Then bring on REAL singers/songwriters and have them perform! Not some talentless hack who performs for a REALITY show! They remind me of a bunch of performing monkeys! Speaking of which, monkeys would make better entertainment. :)

Will someone please pull the plug on this insanity? American Idiot just has to go away from TV.

Anyone else feel the same out there?

NOPE! Don't feel that way.It gets down to the real talent by the end.so go do dishes or work on something else while it is on or take a nap.All the news channels have it on so it is news.A good time to catch up on movies if ya don't like it.Even the real singers and writers were bad at one time or another

Trust me, I avoid the show like the plague. Though you cannot escape from it all the time. And I know the great singers/songwriters have their bad days. But this is just a REALITY show, a popularity contest at best. Are telling me the LOUNGE SINGER who won last year was the best person?!

If they wanted to make it a real competition they'd remove the age limit. There are older adults out there that have been perfecting their craft for years...playing instruments, writing music, dancing...and they don't get a chance to show it because their decrepit by TV standards.

I think it serves its purpose. It's a rating bonanza, as Drudge reported this morning. Viewership was up this year and it got crazy ratings.
Although I'm not a fan of Idol being brought up in the 6 or 9pm newscasts (daytime ones are geared more towards entertainment, it seems), I don't blame FOX2 one bit for exploiting the success of Idol and mentioning it. Fox is pretty darn good at knowing how to not cross the line when it comes to stuff like that.

Oh joy! Another fellow American Idol hater! Glad to know I ain't alone! I have tried to see why so many millions of people stop their lives when that show comes on, and I just do not get it! From start to finish, it is pure lunacy...pure shallow drivel...It's always a relief to see I am not alone!

If I want to watch people make an idiot of themselves, I can go anywhere in St. Louis were there is a large gathering. :)

I really think one of the main reasons this show bugs me, all the news coverage. It is not like the pope or the president is coming to St. Louis. It is just mindless entertainment that does not deserve all the news coverage.

If you look at other reality shows, how come they do not get the news coverage? Should they not be afforded the same treatment?

I dont watch American Idol for I simply not interested. I dont follow celebrities in general for the fact that the majority of them have lost track of reality. As for 'reality' shows, they dont exist. It's all about the fame and money.

I also agree with the comment of AI on the news. It's not news. It' free publicity for a TV show and not news. It has no place on the news. In fact, I switch channels when they show thier regular updates on AI until they go back to real news.

AI is not news.

I can't stand the show and as far as the guy that won last year, I turn the channel when he comes on a commercial. I can't stand the guy for some reason.

I want to comment on a statement made earlier which is: “All the news channels have it on so it is news”. This statement is somewhat disturbing to me because I too agree that we should leave it up to the “professionals” to determine what truly is newsworthy, but obviously they are failing miserably at this task. Therefore, as a viewer I am not sure what to do, should I simply turn on the radio, wash dishes, turn down the volume or completely tune out whenever local news comes on? Personally, I feel that the last option isn’t an option and that it is our duty as good citizens to be informed just as it is the duty of newscasters to determine what is newsworthy. Unfortunately, I think that they aren’t holding up their end of the bargain.
