The story that ran on Fox last night about the deer with it's head stuck in a fake pumpkin broke my heart.  I felt sick to my stomach after watching it.  I was hoping for a happy ending to this story that I otherwise would have preferred NOT hearing about.  One that continues to run through my head.  I guess that's "news".

Anyway, today I searched online to see if the deer had been freed.   What do you know?  Another story from 2 years ago came up about a deer with it's head stuck in a pumpkin.  This one was lucky and was able to escape.

What really upsets me about this is that the reason they will not tranquilize the deer is because "the deer will be unfit for human consumption for 30 days."  God forbid a human help out an animal who is destined to have a slow and painful death.  He can't eat or drink and they believe it's been that way for 7 days.  I hope someone or something is able to help this deer and maybe Fox can cover a story with a happy ending.

My OBAMA sign!  Someone stole it right out of my front yard.  I couldn't believe it.  It hadn't even been displayed for a whole week!  I do my part to help educate people about the candidate's views.  I've walked my neighborhood and talked to registered, undecided voters.  I'm volunteering my time to do what I think is right.  I'm simply voicing MY opinion.  That's fine if you don't like it.  But, please don't steal my things.

Another hurricane, another evacuation for my family and friends back home in Southeast Texas.  Thank goodness everyone is safe.  Family businesses were destroyed and we don't yet know about the houses as they have not returned home.  Material things.

I am very thankful for my friends who called or emailed just to say "I'm thinking of you and your family."

Here is a pic of my brother and sister-in-law's t-shirt business in Orange, TX. :(

The only thing that irritates me more than all this talk is how often people misspell  his name.

My best friend,  Tonia, called from Texas on July 5.  She was very distraught as her dog, a 7 month old lab mix, had run away the night before.  She had taken him out for a walk and Ryder heard loud fireworks.  He slipped out of his collar and ran away.  The more noise he heard the faster and farther he ran.  She looked for him all night.

I was so upset because I really wanted to be there to help her look for him.  We talked on the phone all weekend.  She cried and I cried.  We wanted Ryder home.

Monday morning, July 7, when I came into work, I continued to think of WHAT I could do to help.  As I checked my myspace page, I thought that I would send out a bulletin to all my friends about Ryder.   I did so, and within minutes my cousin in Orange TX also reposted the bulletin to all of her friends.  Amazing how technology works.  Within minutes we had made 300+ people aware of Ryders disappearance.

Within an hour, I got a phone call from Tonia.  Ryder had been found!!!  She picked him up from the lady who had found him and asked the lady how she knew to call her.  Ryder had no identification on him.  The lady said her sister got a message on myspace, the one my cousin reposted,  with the dogs picture and contact information on it.

I was able to find a dog in Beaumont TX all the way from Milwaukee WI!  I was thrilled that I was able to help her.  There's always something you can do to help a friend in need!

Don't forget to get your dogs microchipped and make sure they have a collar with a current telephone number!

My husband and I  lead a pretty hectic life and don't get away much.  We've only been in the area for 3 years.  We've decided  it's time to get away for a weekend.  BUT, we want to take our two dogs with us.  No children, just dogs.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a get a way that allows dogs?  We don't have to include them in everything but just want to have them at the hotel with us.  Any input is greatly appreciated.

I was born and raised in Southeast Texas. My hubby and I have 2 dobermans named Beaumont and Luckenbach, aka Bo and Luke. I like living in Milwaukee but I'll never get used to the cold and snow! Some things I love: Sunshine, wine, flip flops, music, Houston Astros, old movies, morning coffee, family and friends, Houston Texans, bubble baths, running 5ks, mimosas on Sundays and a good old pair of sweatpants. Oh, and pickles.
