No Cowbells in Philly

When Tampa Bay Ray fans started ringing their cowbells in Philly, Philly fans got upset, and threatened physical violence agains Ray fans.
Had it been me, I would have rung the bell all the louder and more obnoxiously.
Nope, I'm not a Philly Fan or a Ray Fan. I'm a hockey fan. But one thing is for sure, no mob mentality fans from an opposing are going to keep me from ringing my bell.
But given last night's exercise in insecurity by Philly fans, I'm going to root for the Rays.
I recently read on Yahoo! Sports that Wayne Gretzky in March paid Tiger Woods a great compliment saying that he didn't think anyone would dominate a sport like Michal Jordan until Tiger Woods hit his stride. While in Michigan at the Oakland Hills Country Club, Tiger then says "I don't think anybody watches Hockey anymore".
The full quote came from a news conference at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan yesterday,
where Tiger appeared via satellite. He was asked his thoughts about
Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals. He chuckled, and then answered:
"I
don't really care," he said with an impish smile. "It's all about the
Dodgers. I don't think anyone really watches hockey anymore."I have had my reservations about Tiger in the past, and now it is just solidified. Sure, he is great at Golf, but put him in any other sport and he could not hold his own. Put him in hockey skates, and he could not compete. He probably has weak ankles anyway.
I'll add to that.
Tiger Woods is a JERK. After someone pays you a great compliment like Gretzky did, and you have the guts to say something like that. And most of all, to say it in a place like Michigan outside of Detroit, which IS Hockey Town during the playoffs.
Tiger Woods has no class, and has lost the respect of this Hockey Fan, and many others.

I share my house with my cousin.
I am a hockey fan. He is a die-hard Red Wings Fan.
When the wings play, you know it, not just because the TV is on, but because my cousin is shouting and yelling and occasionally you hear a screeching SCOOOOOOOOOREEEE!!!! When this happens, for some reason, the dogs run and hide. One by one they come back and sit at my feet while watching the game.
As I write this, it's game 5, and the Wings are Leading the series 3 to 1, and the score is Wings 3, Penguins 2.
So, until next hockey season, the dogs, hopefully won't feel the need to run and hide.
SCCCOOOOOOOREE!!!!!!!!!
Is it just me? Or are the umpires and referees, especially in professional sports so conceited that they have to make the game about them?
Especially in playoffs.
Wrong Calls, No Calls, Stupid Calls.
And if you argue with them you can get ejected.
They set themselves up to be gods, but their is no godliness about them.
Where is the honor in the sports?
Let the players play, and quit trying to even the score when one team is better than another.
I have noticed this in MLB, NBA and NHL especially, but it also exists in college and lower level sports. I don't enjoy games when you have incompetent umpires and referees, and that seems to be the norm. Sorry, I don't watch football, it's too gay.
I am so happy that the Wolverines BEAT the gators. It was a close game, but they pulled it off. What I don't understand is how Tebow got the Heisman Trophy? That guy (forgot his name) from Hawaii has a more impressive record, and Hawaii was the only team that was undefeated. Tebow's Gators lost 3 games. And why isn't Hawaii playing for the National Championship?
But now I have something to say:
Kudos to Lloyd Carr. IT was great to see him win his final game. I have seen this man in action, from when he was a coach at my hometown high school, and although he may not be the most winning coach, he is certain to rank as one of the top most admired college football coaches. He has always taken the high road, and has never shown himself as a sore loser.
Is It TOO EARLY to say

I chose the NEWS category for this one, because it is making headlines. This isn't totally about sports. It's about gambling and the mob.
Recent allegations have arisen and an FBI investigation into an NBA Referee who may have a gambling problem. Games being fixed? I have said all along that something stinks in the referee business. Not just in the NBA, but in Hockey as well. Who knows, maybe it extends to MLB, the NFL, the WNBA, or even MLS? I have watched many games, and I am not what you would call a sports fanatic, and I don't know much about the games, but I'm not stupid either. In so many games, especially in the NHL and NBA, particularly in the playoffs, refs screw up time and time again. Do I believe that more than just one ref is on the take? ABSOLULTELY! Can I prove it? I don't have to, I already believe it. I am the only one that I have to convince.
I think a whole new can of worms has been opened, and it's a lot bigger than anyone ever imagined. Think about it. We all know that Vegas has ties to the mob, it's not fiction, it's common knowledge. We all know that Vegas takes wagers on sports games, especially playoffs in any sport. With all the billions of dollars being wagered, don't you think it's likely that 'the mob' has gotten to the refs? Maybe this particular ref doesn't really have a gambling problem? Maybe, just maybe, the mob got to him AND others? Maybe, just maybe, San Antonio won the NBA finals because it was fixed. Don't get me wrong, The Spurs are a great team. Maybe, just maybe, if ALL the refs were truly honest, they would tell you that it's fixed. It may be to early to say "I Told You So", but it's certainly not too early to bring all the refs from all the sports into question.
Who Decides A Game?

I have watched a lot of playoff coverage for Basketball and Hockey, not just my favorite teams, but others as well.
Am I wrong or is the players or the referees that decide who wins a game. I have seen some outrageous calls, no calls and blunders. To add insult to injury, it seems like the refs are usually biased toward the home team. Yeah, I know it's the playoffs, and some morons may think, "hey, it's the playoffs, so the refs let them get away with more crap". But that doesn't make it right.
I just seems like no matter what team sport you watch, the refs are getting sloppier and sloppier, playoffs or not.
I think I'm going to start watching Track and Field. The only judges there are time clocks and yard sticks.

My hometown teams are kicking some serious butt!! Who knows, maybe the Tigers will win this year too! The Lions will never win though as long as Bill Ford owns them.

I look forward to my hometown Detroit Pistons kicking some Magic butt down here. Sorry I moved away, I just couldn't handle the cold. Pistons in 4. The Magic plays sloppy, I don't know how they made it to the playoffs the playoffs in the first place.

I'm so Happy the Detroit Red Wings beat the Calgary Flames last night in double overtime.
It was so good to see them win despite the slanted refs.
I loved the Yahoo! headline that read "RED WINGS WALK ON".
Not Enough Hockey Coverage

Is it just me? Am I missing something? When I watch local news, they rarely give any hockey information. I have to get my info from the internet. TV gives little if any highlights. I had to go to the internet this morning to find out who won the Red Wings/Flames game last night. I want more hockey coverage, especially not that it's playoff time.
Any Hockey Fans Out There?

I was raised in the Detroit area. Detroit IS Hockey Town! I noticed that 3 NHL Owners are from the Detroit Area. One of them, Mr. Davidson, owns the Tampa Bay Lightning. I also noticed there is very little coverage of Hockey here in Florida. With all the people from the North that have moved down here, I'm surprised there isn't a bigger demand for the game. If you ask me, Hockey is the ONLY sport worth watching. Yeah, I know, you didn't ask me, but I'm telling you anyway.
GO WINGS!!
