Job 36:26-31 God provides our food. Its not the government's job to feed us.

1Tim 6:17 (NIV) Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

We are to put our hope & trust in God who provides us with everything, not to look to the government to take care of every detail of our lives.

1Tim6:18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

It is the command of the Lord that we are to help each other and those in need who are around us personally. When the Governent takes your money to give to others, they are interfering with this relationship that God wants us to have with eachother. It is the responsibility of the Church to take care of those who are TRULY in NEED. When the Government does it, they are interfering with God's plan, and imposing on the free exercise of religion.

1Tim 5:16 (NIV) If any woman who is a believer has widows in her family, she should help them and not let the church be burdened with them, so that the church can help those widows who are really in need.

It is first the family's responsiblity to take care of their own, then the churches. When Government does it, accountability is removed from God's plan.

James 1:27 (NIV) Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Matt 25:31 (NIV) "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' 37 "Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' 40 "The King will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' 41 "Then he will say to those on his left, `Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' 44 "They also will answer, `Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' 45 "He will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' 46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

It is also against God's plan for people who are able to live a life where they do not earn what they consume.

2Thes 3:7 (NIV) For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." 11 We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. 13 And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.

Those who are poor because they are lazy should not be rewarded and enabled by the Government taking money from the “rich” and those who work hard and diligently to give to those who are able to work, but don't want to, and support their sinful and unbelieving way of life.

Prov 10:3 (NIV) The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. 4 Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.

When the Government does this, it teaches people to trust in it instead of trusting in God.

Hebrews 10:38 (NIV) But my righteous will live by faith in God our Heavenly Father.

If we depend on what the Government can do for us, and supply us with what we need, then we are not living by faith in God, we are living by faith in the Government. This makes us serve the Government and not God. The Government becomes our master.

Hey S,

Yes, and what A Corrupt Master!

But of course... " power corrupts, ultimate power corrupts ultimately "

Like the GAO Report this morning on 'Farm Subsidies!'

Thanks, Roger459.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinions. Might be nice if you could disagree with some dignity.

Dear "V"

(Proverbs 26:4-5) Do not answer a fool according to his foolishness, lest you also be like him.

(Pro 26:5) Answer a fool according to his foolishness, so that he may not be wise in his own eyes.

Where and When, did I not answer with Dignity and MOST OF ALL...."TRUTH?"

Sorry V, Your 'False Accusations'... only show ALL OF US... What Kind of Person... "YOU"... Really ARE!

Thanks, Roger459

Vittorio, I have seen your twisting of words in other blogs. Don't be a hypocrite! Your post was less than dignified, and I treated it as such.

I do not twist words, I state my opinions. One should not find the opinions of others offensive if they contain no personal attacks. Slamming those you disagree with doesn't sound very Christian to me; jusp plain arrogant. And that's an opinion. Mine.

So then, Vittorio, since you seem to an intelligent person, how is it that God Helps Those Who Help Themselves? What came first? The Chicken or the Egg?

I am brash. That is my personality trait. Just because someone is a Christian does not mean they are perfect. I have a long way to go, and the reality is you probably won't see very much improvement in me in this lifetime.

I have a friend in Kentucky, and we correspond and talk on the phone regularly. He is the biggest left wing backwards minded liberal hypocrite that I know, but he is still my friend, and I still slam him. But I never close the lines of communication with him, and I know that he will never agree with me on many things. That is the beauty of the friendship. If you think I am mean and unchristian, that is because I am also human. There are far worse people than me out there, both christian and non-christian.

God gave us the intelligence so that we CAN help ourselves. Why pray for something we can provide? I feel that when we REALLY need help, our Creator is more likely to help one who doesn't bother Him/Her all the time. When you're sick, do you pray for a cure or visit the barber surgeon?

In this country you are entitled to assume any personality traits you wish. Slamming is rude. Period. Try walking the walk instead of using the standard excuse that "we're all sinners".

Vittorio, there is nothing wrong with being rude.

Yes, God did give us intelligence so that we can work and do and be productive and fruity. There is no denying that. But God gave the help FIRST. What if God provided no avenue for learning? One of the verses from the Bible that is quoted above clearly says that if you don't work, you don't eat. There is no doubt that God has given us many resources to help ourselves, but it is God who first HELPED us, not the other way around. To say that God helps those who help themselves puts the car before the horse so to speak. It is through God's provision that we "have" anything.

We are all still sinners, it's not an excuse, it's a chronic condition. It's not that we are sinners because we sin, but we sin because we are sinners. To deny that, in any faith, leads at best to ignorance. In society it can lead to jail. In life it ultimately leads to death. But, God, being and ever present help in time of trouble provides a way through, over, under, around or out of that trouble, every time.

"Vittorio, there is nothing wrong with being rude."

I suppose that's how you wish to be treated via the Golden Rule. You'll have to look elsewhere as I feel there's no excuse for rudeness. Betcha Jesus would agree with me.

Hey! You could always re locate to NYC where rudeness is common.

Uh Oh, I think you just got rude! LOL

Vittorio, Jesus was rude at times. I should have completed the comment. Being rude is okay at times because it is the only way to get the point across to some people. Being rude is okay if it is called for. There are some pre-conditions to being rude. But I'm not going to go out of my way to try and please everyone that comes along. That is not going to happen. I can't be all things to all people, I can try, but I'll usually fall flat on my face. Rather than fall flat on my face repeatedly, I'll take a chance that people think I'm rude. But if they are offended, then maybe it wasn't really rude after all, may it cause SOMEONE to THINK.

Golden Rule? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I would rather a person be honest with a touch of rudeness than to lie to me and be nice.

Rudeness is juvenile.

Let's see, from age 14 to 24 I worked in restaurants. I have held every position in a restaurant. When customers are rude and obnoxious, they lose their right to good service and should be shown to the door. I am not simply rude for the sake of being rude, but I will be when it is called for. I make no apologies for that. In the restaurant business, there has to be a mutual respect, and there usually is. I have found that the rude customers usually wake up, and they usually respond well after they get a taste of their own medicine. Being rude is not juvenile when it is called for. I have never had a problem working in a restaurant, and I have never spit on someone's dinner. Contrary to what some people think, it is totally appropriate to respond to people the same way they they treat you, and if that means being rude, then that is 100% okay. Times have changed and the customer is NOT always right.
