I was raised in a church that had a more Arminian theology when it comes to salvation. In addition to that, I had a mother who acquired her theology not from others, but from reading the Bible. She did not believe you could lose your salvation.
I have wrestled with this topic on occasion, but do not let it consume me. I really do not believe a person can lose their salvation for one simple reason, and it's found in arguably the most popular single verse in the Bible. John 3:16, God loved mankind so much that gave all that he could give in the person of Jesus, His only son, and that whoever believes on Him (Jesus) will not perish but have ETERNAL LIFE.
ETERNAL LIFE. Think about it for a moment. What does that mean?
If it is eternal life, then that means FOREVER!
How is it then that some would teach that you can lose your salvation?
The verse does not say TEMPORARY LIFE.
There are a lot of verses that support the idea that there is eternal security in Jesus Christ.
There are some verses that might lead someone to believe they can lose or walk away from God, but I have found they are often taken out of context, or even misconstrued.
At this point, I have to reject the idea of Salvation Lost

Oct 29, 2008 | 11:46 AM Cromagnonwoman asks: Why in the world would anyone not want to be a Christian if you can accept Jesus as your savior and commit rapes, murders, armed robberies, etc. and still go to heaven because you cant lose your salvation? Simply put, if one continues in the ways of the world, and in commission of crime, they are only giving lip service to their "faith." Nowhere in the Bible does it ever say someone can be forgiven for sin they have committed deliberately and with conscience. One must own their error and be truly sorry they did it. "Repentance" means a U-turn on the path, and without genuine repentance there can be no forgiveness, nor salvation. Oct 29, 2008 | 11:53 AM Uh-oh - the New Window thing didn't work on that link. Sorry, Cro. To speak to the thread - one cannot lose their Salvation, BUT, they can fool themselves and others by making a profession of faith and never really making the commitment, or they can walk away from it and quit altogether the pursuit. IT IS A DAY BY DAY COMMITMENT AND PURSUIT! |
