SIPEDO SEZ

I am a careful driver.  I look out for other traffic, including motorcycles.

The other day I was driving down SR 50.  I was cut off by a motor cycle and had to slam on my brakes.  It happened so quick, I was doing the legal speed limit, and he just cut right in and slowed down very quickly.  I had little time to prepare.  This motorcyclist was putting his life in danger by driving so stupid.  What if I couldn't stop in time?

While most motorcyclists are cautious, knowing that some people in larger vehicles are not as careful as I might be,  some think it is necessary to Hot Dog it in heavy traffic, riding between lanes, cutting people off, hot rodding, and in the meantime putting peoples lives in danger, especially their own.

Just yesterday a motorcyclist was killed after a picup truck hit him not far from where I live.  The report said that he was not wearing a helmet.  Knowing how stupid other people drive, especially when it comes to encountering motorcycles, doesn't it make sense to wear a helmet.?  Not that it would save their lives anyway, but it could help.

I have been considering buying a motorcyle or scooter, but stupidity goes both ways on the road, and now I think I'll stick with the gas guzzler.

Now if we could get the semis that hog the road and ride up your butt to be more careful.

The most fatal motorcycle accidents I read about in the paper are usually the fault of the motorcycle operator.
That is not to say all, but it seems the great majority are. The one that cut in front of you and then slowed down, must have been suicidal, or drunk. Most bikers I see on the road are very careful, and even signal lane changes. How many in cars do THAT?

Oh well. Reckless=death if you are on a bike. Bad enough the careful ones are sometimes killed by careless motorists, but doing crazy stuff like that really increases your chances of dying.

This is mainly due to the cost of gas and now every bone head who thinks they can ride are out buying up the bikes,95% of these idiots can't even ride a bicycle let alone a motorcycle.

Right Frank, but isn't it against the law to use your turn signal in Florida? I think turn signals are an accessory in Florida. I think it costs a couple grand more for turn signals.

Zip, I see dumb motorcyclists of all types, experienced and inexperienced. Thankfully I see more smart than dumb. But I more than half think that those who ride without helmets seem to be the ones that drive stupid.

It is the few that give the many a bad name.
Most of the idiot riders ride those chrotch rockets (yes some ride harleys) but not all bike riders do stupid stunts.

Statistically, in vehicle vs vehicle accidents, the car is at fault more than the bike. However, interestingly, although males make up 96% of riders, female riders are involved in a disproportionate number of wrecks.

Well, Females don't know how to drive anyway. They should have never been allowed to vote or drive.

Bikes are great. Some drivers are not, no matter how many wheels they have.

411 sipedo...most of those idiots are male gender not female gender...so what gender is the worst drivers? Plus they are mostly young, dumb, and full of their own ego trips which makes them more dangerous on the roads...especialy on crotch rockets! But I must say that I have even traveled the roads sharing as a group of different riders on those dam things that didn't abuse their powerful speed. It's never really the kind or type of motorcycle it is for blame....it's always the idiot controlling it that is completely to blame! And that can be said with any kind and type of vehicle!

But that stupid motorcyclist that did that to you...I would have let them take a good listen to my loud horn blairing behind them in their ears!!! Having a on purpose stuck horn would get to speed up!LOL

If you're not buying a motorcycle because of stupid operators but will drive a car, what about all of THOSE stupid operators???

I dodge cars almost daily in my ride from Deltona to Orlando. Text messaging, talking on the phone, reading...you name it, I've seen it.

That said, I'd bet the idiot you encountered was on a "crotch rocket". I'm sure there are stats out there somewhere showing those motorcycles are involved in many more accidents than "regular" bikes.

...and a "regular" bike would be something like a Hardly Ableson I suppose. But my "regular" bike happens to be a Ninja.....
There are no credible statistics showing that a young dude wheelieing on a CBR is more likely to wreck that a rubbie wannabe bar hopping on Sunday afternoon. However, statistically, alcohol is involved in a disproportionate number of accidents.

Most that get into fatal accidents also
have never had motorcycle endorsement
added to their license. It's a true
lifesaver and VERY HIGHLY recommended
and the law on any financed bike/scooter over
85cc.

I think the show-offs with those cheesy
metric crotch rockets should be locked
up immediately when caught. I saw some
guy doing an "endo?" (where they break
the front and make the back of the bike come off the ground) at a light...i never saw more
plastic fall off of a bike in my life LOL! I
even wonder if he meant it or not!

No worries, mate. The rubbies got together with the cops this year and passed a law making it illegal to to wheelies or endos- immediate confiscation.

Usually they don't "break" the front- normally we use the front "brake" anyway.

Personally, I think the cops should lock up the biker wannabees (you know, week end tough guys) for DWI while bar hopping on Sunday afternoon. They wobble all over the road and chrome bits fall off all over the pavement. Of course, they cops and the rubs are tight buds- so that won't happen.

Well, starting 1 Oct it's $1,000 fine for doing a wheelie!!! About time!!!!! 2nd offense is $2,500 and lose license for 1 year!!!

mscsailor....for you...

Sport bikes have the highest death rates among all types of motorcycles, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute. Drivers of these high-performance racing motorcycles are being killed nearly four times as often as people who drive standard models, a new insurance study shows.
Sport bikes made up less than 10 percent of registered motorcycles in 2005 but accounted for over 25 percent of rider deaths.

As you can see mscsailor, your statement "There are no credible statistics showing that a young dude wheelieing on a CBR is more likely to wreck that a rubbie wannabe bar hopping on Sunday afternoon" is incorrect.

BAN SPORTSBIKES!!!! :)

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), riders of “supersports” motorcycles have driver death rates per 10,000 registered vehicles nearly four times higher than for drivers of other types of motorcycles. Supersports have more horsepower than conventional motorcycles and can reach speeds of up to 190 mph. They are built on racing platforms and are modified for street use. The bikes are popular with riders under the age of 30. The bikes are light-weight and aerodynamically styled. In 2005, these bikes registered 22.5 driver deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles compared with 10.7 deaths for other sport models (related to supersports but do not have the acceleration, stability and handling of supersports). Standards and cruisers and touring bikes, with upright handlebars, have rates of 5.7 and 6.5 per 10,000 vehicles. In 2005, supersports accounted for 9 percent of registrations, and standards and cruisers made up 51 percent of registrations. Among fatally injured drivers, the IIHS says that drivers of supersports were the youngest—with an average age of 27. Touring motorcycle drivers were the oldest, 51 years old. Fatally injured drivers of other sports models were 34, on average; standard and cruiser drivers were 44 years old. Speeding and driver error were bigger factors in supersport and sport fatal crashes. Speed was cited in 57 percent of supersport riders’ fatal crashes in 2005 and in 46 percent for sport model riders. Speed was a factor in 27 of fatal crashes of riders of cruisers and standards, and for 22 percent of r
