Shakey's Pizza

I love to take my kids to Shakey's Pizza as a quieter alternative to the place with the mouse...
I have been hearing rumors that they are planning on closing down.
Does anyone know more about this?
It is located off Lincoln Ave and National Ave and has been a wonderful family environment for me for years... I even have fond memories of the magician making me balloon animals for my birthday parties as a child.
I will really miss this place and so will my kids if the rumor has some truth to it.
(Allegedly - until I provide proof that no one will give me) A teacher at Hamilton High School in Milwaukee purchased and pays for cell phone for my child. He has also taken him to movies and to visit various homes of girls. (changes girls faster than his underwear)
The school won't do anything because I have no proof other than the fact that my kid came clean as to where the phone came from.
The police won't do anything because they say it is not a crime for a teacher to provide a child THAT ISN"T THEIRS with a cell phone.
We as parents did not give this adult permission to take him to movies or to visit homes of girls or to have the cell phone.
In fact it was all done without our knowledge. The kid is sneaky in his own right and I wouldn't trust him further than I could throw him which isn't far.
It doesn't matter to the police that I am afraid of my own child. He acts out in violent and very attitudy (is that a word?) ways if you take things away from him or he is not getting what he wants when he wants it. This makes for a very difficult living situation.
I tried calling the cellphone company that the phone is through. They won't do anything about the fact that one of their customers is providing a phone to an underage child that is not their either.
Where else can we turn for help? This is mindboggling that everybody thinks there is nothing wrong with a teacher purchasing a phone for a child without parental permission.
Curfew Question

Question:
How does the curfew apply to the teens that have jobs?
If the teen is scheduled to work until 10:30 but one of their parents works nights and can't pick them up and the other parent doesn't want to wake up the little ones that need their sleep for school, and are not old enough to be home alone. Or another scenario, the parent is a single one raising more than the one teen and again needs to be responsible for those sleeping and the teen needing to get home after curfew.
Is there a grace period for those that are in uniform and can prove they are just going from work to home?
I guess I am asking as our 17 year old just got his first job and I am curious how this is going to affect either us or his job.
Is there a place to look up the ordinance governing the curfew in Milwaukee? I am specifically asking Milwaukee as we live in and he works in Milwaukee. I know different cities have slightly different guidelines.
I have never seen anyone address curfew in this way and now because of Antoine1's blog I am now seeking direction!

On January 24th you backed into my private driveway and sat in your car with it running waiting for who knows what for at least 15 minutes, but I think it was closer to 20 minutes. I called the Milwaukee Spanish Immersion School to ask for help, but no one answered the phone... the message said they were closed, but the school was a buzz with activity everywhere. I then called the police and they took the complaint but were unable to come out as they would not arrive in time to do anything helpful. After talking with the supervising sergent for 30 minutes (and the offending vehicle left during that conversation) she was as baffled as I am at how to solve the problem as my neighbors and I have done just about everything under the sun that is legal to solve the problem with no success.
The school has made a few changes, such as waving people out of our driveways, and approaching cars telling them to move.. and today they started putting out orange cones to indicate the edges of the neighboring driveways so that their students parents don't impede our access to our driveways.
The safety commission gave us a crossing guard.
Mr. Posley of Administrative Accountability said weather permitting large functions will have parents parking on the playground (apparently there was still too much snow and as the school board has a policy against plowing playgrounds the parents parked on the street). He also said that during the large functions there would be a safety aide or staff member outside directing traffic to prevent parents from blocking driveways or parking in them like the driver of the vehicle 857 GHR did tonight. That individual was not present in any way shape or form.
MPS is only making minimal efforts to work with the neighbors surrounding it's schools.

Lack of Education?

Martin Luther King has been and still is an important figure in the history of this nation. My question is this:
Why do the children get the day off of school for this holiday?
Wouldn't the rich history and the memory of his legacy be better served with children learning about it at school and celebrating it in an educational setting versus giving them a "free" day at home.
What do you think?
Police fail yet again!

Yesterday the officer that responded said that on Friday which is today that a patrol car would come through to help keep the peace. Didn't happen. Let down again by the police that are supposed to serve and protect all in the community.
Parking enforcement promised to have a checker out here this morning. Broken promises again.
Homeowners are having their rights trampled while those breaking the law get away with it scott free!
Homeowners are not allowed to tell the people to move out of their driveway, they are not allowed to honk their horn, or do anything to get the violator to move. The only thing they can do is call the police who DO NOT SHOW UP until it is too late and the violator has moved on. The police and parking enforcement will not accept photos and licence plates of the offenders as evidence.
This all leaves the violators sitting pretty and the homeowners "in a prison" of sorts.
This is not fair!
Http://www.mpw.net/Pages/pregulations.html This clearly states under the section: Other Parking Regulations Driveways: It shall be unlawful for any vehicle to be parked on or BLOCKING the entrance to any PRIVATE driveway or garage without the consent of the owner of such driveway so as to prevent free passage of vehicles.
What I want to know is why this is so difficult to get enforced?
If I can't get out and get my kids to school on time, the person blocking me in isn't held responsible, I am or my children are. That's not fair. I always leave plenty of time so as not to be running late, however, when I am blocked in and can't get out, then my planning for extra time is shot out the window.
It isn't fair to ask me to take my kids to school super early and to drive around aimlessly wasting time just because some inconsiderate morons thinks it is ok to break the law . It is not the same person everyday. It is a new moron everyday and on most days more than one.
The lack of police support for the homeowners is dissappointing. Maybe they would prefer that kids don't get to school to get their educations so that they have more delinquent kids to arrest.
I was always under the impression that preventative maintainance was better than cleaning up the mess after the fact. Apparently I am wrong. The police only want to deal with the after the fact clean up and could give two hoots about prevention!
Why play the race card?

Curious why whenever there is a problem involving people of different colors, the race card has to get played? What does race have to do with the issue at hand?
This morning, I was getting ready to leave to take the last of 6 kids to school. There was a man blocking my driveway. He was fixing his passenger side door. No problem there. He then completed his repair (about 5 minutes of time) and instead of backing up his vehicle into the open space behind him, he proceeded to cross the street towards the Milwaukee Spanish Immersian School. At this point, I am now in the driveway with my 17 year old ready to leave to get him to his school. (6 kids, 6 different schools, 3 different districts) I started out nice saying "excuse me, you can't park there, I need to leave". He responded by glancing over and putting up his right hand with the index finger extended saying one minute. I then said "no excuse me, you can't parkk there, I need to leave to take my kid to school". He then ignored me and proceeded to continue across the street. Now at this point another vehicle pulled into the empty legal space that he could have occupied. Because he ignored me, and this has been an ongoing problem with this schools parents, I lost it. The one day that I decided to swear and I don't deny it. I pretty much said to "move your BLEEP** car". That was it. He said that I disrespected him in front of his kids ( which I admit was wrong, but everyone has a limit and mine was overboiling and I snapped, no excuse, but it is the truth) He then threatened me. "I'm gonna beat your BLEEP". My 17 year old is the only witness to that statement as the other parents and principal turned a blind eye and are protecting the parent of their student. I then went in the house as he started up my driveway. I told him to get off of my property. He then proceeded to ring my doorbell. I stayed in the house fearing bodily harm due to his threat. He tried to tell my husband that he should be respected. Gladly, I would give respect once it is earned. How about respecting my property and not parking in my driveway!
My husband came outside with me so that I could get in my car and take my son to school, and the man was STILL blocking my driveway. I took pictures of his car to prove that he was blocking my driveway and he then finally pulled away after the principal Ms. Martel finally had come over and talked with him by his drivers side window. The police were called and basically they were going to issue tickets for disorderly conduct because of my swearing and his threat of harm. At this time that is not going to happen. However the officer (not that this next section matters, but it pertains to my title) the officer was white, I am white, my hubby is native american, the principal is white, and the traffic offender blocking my driveway is black. He reported to the officer that I used the N word. That word has never, ever come out of my mouth and never will. I am thinking of going downtown to ask for a restraining order against that parent and filing slander charges. I don't normally use the swear words and in my defense I was at my breaking point. My kids have a right to get to school on time same as the kids attending this school. My kids have the right to not have to sit out in the cold by arriving super early so that I can get out of my driveway just so that I don't have to try to navigate around the moron's that park me in because they have no respect for those that live in the neighborhood and think that all that matters is their child.
The gentleman in question also told me that he was picking up something that his kid dropped and he was crossing the street to give it to them. He told the police that he had borrowed a screwdriver from the principal and was returning it to her.
I have spent the day contacting: Parking enforcement, the Police Department, Danny Goldberg of the School Board for this area, Alderman Dudzik's office, the Superintendant of the Milwaukee Public Schools office, and the Mayor's office. Results are pending as all are investigating and going to see what can be done...
Parking people into their driveways by the Spanish Immersian School has escalated to threats of violence from at least one parent of a child at that school, and one act of vandalism by a child with a parent that has a child at that school. Right before Christmas break, my neighbor missed going to the school she teaches at because she was parked in. And of course the inefficient parking system didn't respond until hours later. In the process the lady offender in that case had a verbal confrontation with the teacher next door and one of the kids with her proceeded to spit oooey goooey snotty spit on her and her car in at least 6 spots.
So why is it that those in the wrong feel they have the right to play the race card and harrass and vandalize those that live around the school?
Gas Station Rip Off Artists!

The Clark Gas Station on the south east corner of 60th and Oklahoma is one to beware of!
I went there in the last 15 minutes and they tried to overcharge me. I opened up the door to my gas cap, then took the gas cap off my car. I then picked up the nozzle and put it into the car. I did not touch the trigger at this point. I then without touching the nozzle, pushed the button for my gas selection. (I was at pump #3)
Right after pushing the button for my selection the meter on the gas pump registered at .03 then moved to .05 and then to .08 , so I just looked in awe as I haven't touched the trigger for the nozzle yet... I went inside to ask if the pump was broken or something. He told me no, it must be me. I told him I haven't started to pump the gas yet it was charging me already. He told me to hang it all up and start over to reset the machine. I went back out to my car which was left unattended (I was alone for this trip) and the meter is now reading .11 cents and I was inside the building talking with the attendant.
I reset the machine and all appeared to go smoothly from there. I filled up my tank to $15.00. I then went inside and told him that the meter had increased while I was inside talking to him. He didn't appologize or anything, In fact he told me "next time I charge you".
Charge me for what? The faulty gas pump? I hadn't even pumped the gas yet and it was going up while I was inside his building!
I am livid and I am now in search of the proper people to contact regarding this issue.
Stay away from this gas station unless you want to pay for gas you didn't even get!
Too Cold to Live Outside

I noticed a few months ago that there was a person living in someone's backyard. At first I thought it was was set up for kids using it for fun in the summer. Now it appears to be a man living and sleeping in a pop-up style camper with an electric cord run to the house. It is starting to get too cold to continue doing something like this. Is it even legal to live outdoors in somebody's backyard?
I know people sometimes don't have much in the way of choices and that there are shelters available where you can get a meal, "pee", and maybe even wash yourself up, but how is that possible in a pop-up camper or even sanitary?
Just wondering if someone should be concerned about this situation or if it is just a normal thing that is just often overlooked.
