During President Bush's address to the leaders of the 20 major economic nations, he suggested that more regulations are needed for our financial institutions and the regulatory structure/process needs to be improved in order to  avoid another economic crisis like the one that we are experiencing.

It sounds much like the President is giving advice that he and his administration have yet to follow. In fact it flies in the face of the President's long held notion that  less regulation is the best way to go.

Should the administration be focusing on the development of a stricter and more effective means for regulatory oversight instead of  giving away tax payer monies with few if any conditions?

Well, shadow, Why Not? He and Cheney and all their cronies will be laughing all the way to those banks they are now bailing out. We will probably have to pay for special Blackwater contracts to back up the Secret Service to protect them after January 21, 2009. Maybe that's why the remaining $350 Billion is being held back? IMHO Thank You For Your Indulgence

Vittorio, was Bush also able to "convert" Cheney, Paulson, and the rest of his administration? How about McCain? Didn't he halt his campaign and go back to Washington so that he could advise everyone and promote the bail-out package?

If the entire administration, McCain, and the President have become Democrats, it doesn't seem as though there is much left of the Republican Party. Especially since so many of them have either been defeated or convicted of crimes.

jeokar, yes, Blackwater, the private army paid for with public funds. Kinda like paying mob enforcers with tax monies.....they can't do that can they? LOL

What are the odds that all of the bail-out money and more will disappear before the new President is sworn in?

It's no wonder B. Hussein Obama was able to buy the election so easily. With people like you being led to beleive all the crapola fed to you without even a thought of doing some investigation made it a cake walk for him. You keep blaming President Bush for all these problems when you can't see and refuse to believe it was the democratic congress that is totally to blame. You all think that the mesiah is going to make nice nice and the country will prosper under his stewardship. Wake up and smell the roses, it is all a sham. Your mesiah is a flat out liar and a theif. He is going to rob us all to bail out Africa. He wants to reward those who refuse to earn a decent living for themselves. Just look at the people he has picked for his cabnet. Our only salvation is if we were able to impeach him before being sworn in. That leaves us with #2 choice in Biden. I don't trust that idiot as far as I can throw this building. He hasn't got a clue either. He tells so many lies that he forgets what he said last time he told his story.

oldvamp, as usual you conveniently avoided the topic or issue discussed in the blog. I am feeling charitable and will chalk it up to possible reading difficulties that you have.

The issue is President Bush suggesting that more regulations are needed. Please go back and read so that you can stay on-topic.

It is obvious that you are still embittered by the results of the election. I realize that it may be difficult for you to be a loser, but you do need to face reality. Professional help is available if you need it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, can't we move on to today or even yesterday?

I just listened to part of the President's address again and heard him admit that he was a free market advocate until he was told that we were going to end up in a depression "worse than the great depression" if something wasn't done.

The President has obviously changed his economic philosophy. Does this mean that the Republican party needs to update its "free market advocacy?" The Republican party is obviously in disarray since its obvious rejection by the American people. Is it time to modernize and intellectualize a bit?

Should stricter control/regulations be put in place for financial institutions?

Well, shadows ... Let's take a look at this
New World Order Government: Lotto (Supposedly for Education) = Numbers Rackets; Insurance & HMOs = Protection Rackets and Extortion; Banking, Credit Cards and Amsco (The Friendly Face of Neighborhood Loan Sharks to the Poor) = Usuary and Money Laundering; Eric Price = Future Corporate and Politicial Mob Enforcer = Blackwater; Voluntary Military Service = Exploitation of Poverty; Privatized Prisons = Modern Consentration Camps and Profit Centers for the Insane (Remember what Ronnie RayGun did ... turning out all of California Mental Institution patients and for profit centers any real rehabilitation is wasted Investment); Outsourcing Corporate and State Jobs = Extortion to bust Unions and put Fear in the hearts of the dwindling Middle Class; Unregulated Corporate Media = Propoganda Mills; Pharmaceutical Corporations, Doctors, FDA = Narcotics; Bail-Out = Blatant Theft and Reverse Robinhood ... On, and On, And On. I know you can think of additional Racketeering metaphors. How is it that Congress can have convicted Felons remain in office, but convicted felons lose their vote forever? IMHO Thank You For Your Indulgence

jeokar, not enough emphasis on illegal drug activities. It is important to realize how significant the increased production in Afghanistan has been. The Taliban had severely restricted and almost killed the agricultural/poppy/drug industry in Afghanistan.

Most people don't have a clue about how big (billions)the world-wide illegal narcotics industry is. The American auto industry is dwarfed by comparison. So it has been important to some business folks, to maintain it as a "free market" enterprise without government interference.

Of course money laundering is also important to the illegal drug industry.....so much money and what do you do with it? It has helped to ease controls on the financial industry that it is easier to use it for money laundering and leveraging the "clean money."

jeokar, look for the "new world order" to soon include a financial regulatory commission/agency. Pretty soon won't need as large of a Congressional staff as we presently have. The international community will be policing everything.

For many years the President and his Administration have not only warned of the systemic consequences of financial turmoil at a housing government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) but also put forward thoughtful plans to reduce the risk that either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac would encounter such difficulties as we have seen come to pass....

President Bush publicly called for GSE reform 17 times in 2008 alone before Congress finally acted and by then it was too late to stem the tide..

Unfortunately, these warnings went unheeded, as the President's repeated attempts to reform the supervision and regulation of these entities were thwarted by the legislative maneuvering of those ( Chris Dodd anf Barney Franks ) who emphatically denied there were problems.

ONCE again shadows..Your SKEWED and distorted presentation of the FACTS does NOT stand the TEST of TIME or the exposure to the Light of TRUTH……

Hawkeye, so nice to hear from you again!!

So now I have "SKEWED" the facts? Not setting all seriousness aside, what did I used as the "SKEWER?"

Now getting to your point about the President's call for GSE reform 17 times in 2008. You must realize by now that it is now 2008. The GSE regularities reports date at least to 2004 and most of the experts have agreed that this problem didn't suddenly happen in 2008!! Sure the President "warned" in 2008......a little late isn't it?

Since you seem to want to blame it on the present Congress, let's take a look at 2004 when we had a Congress that would happily have done whatever the President requested. Did we see any financial industry reforms or increased oversight at that time?

The "TEST OF TIME?" You often use that old phrase, but I'm not sure that you understand its meaning. I guess that it kinda sounds good. Maybe you should focus on the area of philosophy and more specifically, the changes in the President's economic philosophy.

Try again Hawkeye, this post fell a bit short even though TM6068 tried hard to support you.

I can't believe how many hard right conservative use Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity as a "reliable source of information."

I call them moronic bafoons that distort facts. Grow up look in the mirror and see if you can sell yourself the BS before posting it here.

Everyone with half a brain can see that Rush Limbaugh has pretty much lost it. Is Sean Hannity still on TV? I thought that he had gone to Alaska to be near Sarah. Both of them are "like minded."

But getting back to a more semi-serious topic. Has President Bush completely revised his free market capitalistic philosophy? He now seems to want to drop all of the conditions on the previously agreed loan to the auto industry for retooling in order to improve mileage on their cars.

It's really hard to get a handle on what this guy is thinking.....kind of a flip-flop type of activity continuing.
