According to the Associated Press, the government reported that 1.2 million jobs have been lost this year so far and unemployment is at a 14 year high.  It is now at about 6.5 percent and is expected to reach 8 percent next year.

Most of the jobs that are disappearing are factory and other good paying middle class jobs.  Will the good paying jobs that are being lost ever return to the U.S. or is the standard of living for many middle class Americans being lowered forever?

I will get a lot worse. Promises of higher taxes on business and the rich by Obama will cause them to move their companies and money out of this country.

Many mid-smaller businesses have already indicated they will be laying off workers and using temp services due to the Obama forced unionization plans.

Remember unemployment and inflation under Carter???

FlaNative, what has been responsible for them moving during the past eight years since Bush has been very pro-business?

What we are seeing now is not a result of an Obama presidency and since the projections for unemployment for 08 is higher based on current conditions and policies, whose fault is that?

The auto industry has been shipping jobs out for decades and look what it has done for them. They are asking for a second bail-out with tax money. If businesses shouldn't pay taxes who should provide the bail-outs?

With the influx of government money into the private sector during the Bush Presidency, someone will have to pay down our national debt and reduce the trade deficit. Who will do it

Actually the mass exodus of jobs has been going on under the aegis of both parties.Nafta and cafta have been approved by both. The funny thing is as soon as the people of these countries start to organize, to make a living wage, these corps. pay off local goverments and go to the orient. So both parties are responsible for the pickle that the American people are in.

Yep... Of course Democrats in office since 06 was NEVER allowed to be put into the picture when pointing fingers here.

Take shadows here.. NEVER could there be problem with Nancy Pelosi pulling the cafta agreement and refusing to allow it to be put in place. Companies with the second highest tax rate, going overseas because just enviromental restrictions chased them out, (see Obama bankrupting Coal)

Bridge and Hwy money pot up to 2005 had MILLIONS in surplus, but Democrats in 06 got their hands on it and in 18 months put it million in the RED! So now we can toss the "Bush's Fault" over it if you like... just remember shadows that if that REALLY is the way you want to play the game, remember it in the next 4 years as we throw Obama's name on EVERYTHING!

If you REALLY can't be intellectually honest and put historical facts and perspective to our situation.. be careful...

Go see how many European companies are leasing the rights from China and India to have production over there, away from Enviromentalist sucking the life out of business...

snkypete. good points especially about the Orient. It is especially interesting how China has made in-roads with most of the developing world and it has paid off for them, even though the governments and their philosophies may differ considerably.

Our approach recently has been to force Democracy on people and nations that don't really want it to begin with.

Abunai, in case you aren't aware we haven't even finish 2008 yet! With a little arithmetic you can subtract 2006 from 2008 and the difference will be 2 years.

As much as you attempt to praise Democrats, I must insist on you sticking to the facts and being a little more realistic. The Democrats may be a very capable Party in your opinion, but for them to end two wars, reduce the huge national debt and trade surplus, correct the "house of cards" economic disaster that has been created, and rebuild the nation's infrastructure that has been allowed to crumble.......all in two years of controlling Congress is a bit far fetched.

And about the conditions in China, perhaps you should try some "bottled" water from the Yangtze "river" in China. It might provide you with some hint of what deregulation can do for us.

snkypete, good idea, end the wars and go after the people who did it. They might might want to begin with Osama Bin Laden. It seems like he is able to communicate with the world when he wants to, yet we are unable to locate him......doesn't make much since unless you consider our official policy of not assassinating leaders. Leaders protect leaders.

Candy, the difference is that Obama isn't even in office yet and more attention is being given to him that to many of our presidents after they were in office for quite some time. I wonder why? Could it be that most of the world doesn't like Bush very much? Is that another reason why we have such a large trade deficit? They prefer to do business with the Chinese?

You really should distinguish the candidates from their respective parties and vote for the candidate in the best interest of our nation rather than the party.

Maybe Obama will be a great president, maybe not. But at least he seems to have given hope to an overwhelming number of Americans of all races. Even Bush suggested that many of our solutions depend on the faith and hope of the people.

I hope that you are not one of those people who will engage in attack type partisan politics and ignore the fact that our nation is going down the tubes. If so, you might want to advise all of the young people around you of your actions and intentions. Because it certainly won't improve the future for them.

ROFLMAO!! shadows what a ridiculous attempt to hold back the tide of reality.

He may be good, he may not, but he brought hope? (said on frog to anohter about crossing the highway in rush hour traffic...) Flat as a pancake, but HEY! He was CRUSHED with hope in his heart! LOL!

Don't even try to play the "its not his watch yet" junk... You democrats (yes even the closet liberals aka moderate independents like yourself) need to start to "man up!"

Just today! Mr. Talk to anyone with no preconditions says he is going to read the letter of congradulations from Iran, AND THEN RESPOND APPROPRIATELY? What happend to no preconditions?

I bet he got himself a full blown reality check during some rather eye opening intel briefings this week that have him saying... Oh.. well I didn't realize that..

Thats called a young rookie mistake, and arrogance to think you have all the answers when you don't even know what all the questions and info are! Today he took the guarded approach, but he basically said the same thing Biden did weeks ago. Drastic and hard decissions are comming and be prepared.

Sounds like either some Bush style military action after ridiculing him for 8 years for it, or EVERYONE gets screwed with higher taxes!! OR BOTH!

Here it comes baby! Better start sharpening your facts and debate skills shadows! That knock at the door is truth and reality, and they are bringing a new friend named Mr.TOLDYA! with them!

Care to bet on the OBL Thing shadows? Hey maybe Obama can give us a date that he plans on getting him by else we just pack up and come home! Whats will the date certain be?

You realize you MUST have a date certain don't ya... Thats what Bush was told by the new leadership was it not? Arm chair liberal quarterbacks, now national leaders of the most powerful military... Unless you let the man who destroyed our economy Barney Franks have his way and just surrender, and then steal another 25% of Defense budget...

Maybe shadows we should just talk about Franks, Dodd, Waters, Scott, etc. and their financials until Jan 20th so you don't get upset about talking about Obama then.... Ready when you are..

Oh lets add the new Chief of Staff to that list as he was on the board for Fannie and Freddie too, and was there ignoring all the warning signs too!

Democrats taking us out of two wars, what a imbecile statement for ANYONE to make, it proves again the empty brain cavity the democrats ass kissers have and can only think when the waves from CNN, ABC and MSNBC hits them.
President Kennedy sends combat forces to Viet-Nam to replace the expeditionary forces already there, not equip to fight guerrilla warfare, we lose over 60000 men and over 2500 are missing, we know how it ended.
Peanut Salesman (carter) fails to support the Shah of IRAN a stuch ally of the USA and ONLY signer of of Israel right to exist, result Khomeini takes over 52 hostages, and we lose 2 helicopters and one C-130 during an attempted rescue, that had been brief as "impossible".
Filth clinton, who was interested in paying $600 haircuts and holding airports flights for an hour and a half while doing so and getting we know what from young interns; fails to capture Bin Laden not once but 4 times one of which identify him in an open zone, because he didn’t want to insult Pakistan.
Congress has gotten in TWO YEARS the worst rating EVER, pelosi "I am going to tighten ethics rules" she got caught GIVING her husband $100,000 from HER CAMPAIGN, very ethical she has BLOCKED an investigation into it, "implement greater restrictions on lobbying" the lobbying has gotten so bad, it is what they talk about the most, her boyfriend reid's son is the number one lobbyist
in congress.
When the S_IT hit the fan with our present mess
neither pelosi or reid order an investigation, reason franks and his boyfriend herb moses in Fannie Mae, hateful waters, communist dodd w

When the S_IT hit the fan with our present mess
neither pelosi or reid order an investigation, reason franks and his boyfriend herb moses in Fannie Mae, hateful waters, communist dodd would have been found GUILTY and the democrats mess stench would have reach their boy nobama.
As to jobs going overseas, during the "carter administration" the automobile industry got the okay to build overseas due to CHEAPER LABOR and because they could use the same tricks used by the Japanese when the cars were been imported to the USA to lower the tariff, bring them over separate and call them “parts”.
During carter I WAS overseas and the US was looked as a JOKE, GI's got into fights during demonstrations because of the INSULTS they were hammering at the USA.
I also was in EUROPE and Asia during wasted clinton we were also a joke as a matter of fact they had in Germany and England a program dedicated to the jerk and his girlfriend. Also during this time we lost the MILITARY respect that we had gained with Reagan and Bush senior because they didn't know if we were to be TRUSTED AS ALLIES IF WE WERE NEEDED.
Yes bush is not like overseas because he has made the USA again a force to be reckon with and that is the reason imbeciles liberals can sleep at knight, something that we will miss during the nobama joke.

Abunai, you allegiance to the Republican party and their president who may go down in history as the worst president ever, is admirable even though it is a bit foolish from a practical standpoint.

The "hope" resulting from the election of Obama, is based on national polls that appeared on-line, in the newspapers, and on TV. Even a person that doesn't get out very much should have seen them. Perhaps you have your blinders on again.

"Bush style military action...".....what are you talking about? Has he written a book on combat strategies and tactics? From what I understand he had a lot of experience when he was living in Texas and flying his airplane around. LOL

I noticed that when you started mentioning members of Congress that you wanted to talk about, there was no mention of Stevens or that guy that was caught playing footsie in a restroom stall. Why is that since this blog actually didn't mention the names of any politicians?

AirForceEd, I believe that if you dig into your Vietnam war history, you will find that we had American military deaths in Vietnam before Kennedy became president. We were supposedly there as "military advisers." The Vietnam War was senseless just like the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. And the reasons for each have been debated.

Most agree that they were both a quest for power and money. But the real goals may never be known. For example, Vietnam was part of the "Golden Triangle" and Afghanistan has been able to increase their production of Opium/heroin since the Taliban were forced out. Iraq is an important market for those drugs. The common element in both wars......illegal drugs. Oil and/or rice are not as valuable as illegal drugs.

You "touch" on several issues that volumes have been written about. But predictably you have carefully cut and pasted the statements that have confirmed your biases. The technique is not new, however, you obviously spent a great deal of time finding those lines on so many topics. That deserves a commendation.
