President Bush has lifted the executive-branch moratorium on off shore drilling.  Oil prices then (almost immediately) dropped $9.00 (6.3%).  The Congressional moratorium expires September 30th.  I'll be interested to see what happens.  I love good news!

REXSMOM- I agre that it good news for now, but remember this market is driven by GREED !!!
So I believe it will not stop the raising cost to us at the pump....They know we will pay it and it won't stop going up till the Market won't take anymore..

I noticed a gas station raised their regular by 5 cents a gal overnite, and this after a $7.00 a barrel reduction

I think you are forgetting the factor of opportunity. If the gas stations around you have gas for 3.90 and you want to sell more gas, you would simply lower your price to 3.80. Then the other guy wants to beat your price and he starts selling gas for 3.75. When it cost less for them to obtain the product, selling for less is not a big problem.

I know some of us can use some good news for a change. I guess it will take time to "trickle" down hill to us. And even though it may not be much, at least it's a start.

I think America is on the verge of finding out just how much the enviromental movement was a complete farse. Just this week alone we find out the Russians are drilling 30 miles off the Florida coast and the Chinese have a lease as well and preparing to drill right next to them! We also found that natural seepage of oil from the ocean floor accounts for over three quarters of the oil washing up on shore! That drilling would remove that pressure as we pump it!

The "10 years out" excuse isn't washing when alternatives are even further away! The "sleeping giant" has had a rude awakening and is demanding answers. I think the Al Gore's and Kennedy's of the enviromental movement are hidding now.

As some have pointed out we'll see if there is a direct correlation between oil prices and gasoline at the pump.

That should give us an indication whether the high gas prices are related to oil supply or gasoline supply. Remember the oil must be refined before it gets to the pump. If the oil companies or government don't increase refining capacity, it won't really matter how much oil is available. Very little is heard about increasing refining capacity.

President Bush's lifting of the moratorium on drilling offshore, etc. that was imposed by his father's executive order will do little if anything to increase supply. Only Congress can do that.

If we are to believe that the government really wants to move to alternative energies, a lifting of the tariffs on certain commodities might be a good start. I don't hear much out of the White House or Congress about that either.

The environmentalists probably caused all of these problems. In order to get rid of their damage let's get rid of all of the environmental laws such as smoking bans, etc. and go back to burning our own garbage and trash in the back yard. Also bring back those incinerators that people and businesses used to burn their trash. Disposal of plastic costs hospitals and other businesses a fortune that could be saved by allowing the burning of plastics and other trash.

When municipalities were allowed to dump their sewage in local rivers, lakes, and even the ocean, things were less costly. If the truth were known, these annoying environmental laws are partly responsible for our high property taxes. Getting rid of them would probably even help our financial institutions become solvent again because people would have more money to put in the bank.

And one of the most nonsensical environmental laws is the one against people dumping their used oil back into the ground. How much sense does that make?......after all oil comes from the ground to begin with.

Actually shadows.. all those examples you are refering to never went away. Kyoto simply allowed China and India to just do it in their backyard and we pretend the planet is better for it.... All the illicit refridgerants like R7 and R14 are being used out of every window in China right now! Coal is being burned with new coal fired plants popping up weekly in China to the tune of 2200 new ones by years end. Russia and China seem to be excused by the enviromentalist and allowed a pass to slant drill the oil that we forbid our own from obtaining.

The planets enviorment is doing fine, mankind's impact is hardly noticed when a new volcano erruption comes on, forrest fires, solar flares and spots, etc.

If Bush's (executive branch)makes no difference in oil policy and price and it is up to Congress, then why all the years of beating Bush over the head with it then? Are you suggesting that too is a farce?

You are kidding right? An article by Kudlow?

Now for reality: http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080715/oil_prices.html

"Oil prices fell harder than they have in 17 years Tuesday, as fears that record fuel prices are spreading broad economic pain exacerbated the third big sell-off in just over a week.

Mounting concerns about the risks inflation poses to the United States, the world's biggest oil consumer, helped spark the declines. Analysts also attributed the sell-off to Thursday's expiration of options contracts, which tend to increase volatility, and to computers programed to automatically sell once prices reach certain thresholds.

The drop, which eclipsed last Tuesday's slide of $5.33, marked the biggest decline in dollar terms since the Gulf War. Even so, prices remain no lower than they were a week ago.

Longtime market observers cautioned that the turnaround may not signal a lasting shift in sentiment -- prices have swung violently in recent days as they flirted with record highs."

Did you catch - “the third big sell-off in just over a week”?
Here are the 2 other recent 1 day price drops:
07/03 $145.29
07/07 $141.37

07/07 $141.37
07/08 $136.04

What did the President say those days?

So the President's remarks did what yesterday? NOTHING!

Isn't it AMAZING how when things are going negatively it's ALL,," Bush THIS and Bush THAT " yet when some GOOD news comes along about the very same thing ALL OF A SUDDEN there are MILLIONS of other things that influence this??

ALL coming from the SAME people.....

What's really AMAZING is how some people hit their keys, and yet say nothing.

I can't blame anyone for trying to find something good to say about bush, but this just shows how far the reach has to be.

The fact is that this is what happens when a stock, commodity, or even a whole stock market goes up too fast.
As of 07/14/08, oil futures had doubled in 10 1/2 months. They previously doubled in 3 years & 2 months, before that 2 years & 7 months, before that (prior to bush) 5 years +.

In these last 10 1/2 months there has been daily drops of 3% or more on 10 days, 4% or more on 3 days, & 5% or more on 1 day (03/19/08) - 3.3% 10/30/07, 3.2% 11/27/07, 3.8% 11/28/07, 3.8% 01/07/08, 3.0% 03/04/08, 4.1% 03/17/08, 5.5% 03/19/08, 3.3% 06/19/08, 3.7% 07/08/08, & 4.4% 07/15/08.

So if it really helps you to think bush had something to do with yesterday, then good for you.

Oh,,Don't be so hard on yourself..It's NOT so bad when EVRRYBODY knows you're doing it..

The Bushwhackin' Obsession has FINALLY been revealed and accepted by the populace for what it really IS..

An Anti Bush OBSESSION...

YOU Whacked out Libs. just overplayed your hand,, THAT'S all..

I mean c'mon.. From being SOLELY responsible for 9/11 8 months into his Presidency to blowing up the Levis to CREATING Gorebal Warming??
WHAT did you guys expect??

Well,,WE know that,,don't we..

The USE of such words as "Sheeple" to describe the American People just goes to show how STUPID you Libs. think that EVERYBODY is...

Well,,THAT'S not NEWS to MOST of us...

The result,,, It's the DEMOCRAT party that's IMPLODING while the Republican Party mends fences..

Your "Leaders" keep dropping their masks and FEW like what they see underneath..

If the Conservatives had a VIABLE candidate in the race,, instead of ANOTHER Democrat wannabe,, YOU guys wouldn't EVEN be in the race..

Oh well,,MAYBE someone will emerge from the Independent ranks..

You SHOULD know by NOW what everybody ELSE has known for a LONG time..

That ALL this RAMPED up and incessant “Bushwhackin’” over a person that ISN’T and CANNOT even run again merely reveals a DESPARATION born out of a realization that the Democrats are in REAL trouble..

McCain may NOT be able to beat Obama… WHO wants a second string Democrat when you can have the REAL thing..The Problem is,, NOBODY really wants EITHER of them so once again it becomes the lesser of TWO evils..

No,,,, McCain won’t beat Obama but then again,,, HE won’t HAVE to……..

The DEMOCRAT Congress will DO it FOR him……..

I disagree. I think not only is Obama not actually safe from a Clinton suprise at the convention, but right now, McCain need not even run! While he isn't my first choice, Obama is only now being peeled like an onion, and each layer is exposing a very different person than what was introduced. Because now the media is unable to shelter a Democrat campaign, the attempts to divert attention just won't work anymore.

This actually is the best election cycle I have been part of in my lifetime, and thats with none of my choices on the ticket!

Your examples of 9/11, the Levis, & Global Warming (Gorebal Warming is only parroted by those blind enough to repeat what their shepherds tell them to say), trying to imply that all or even most libs think that, is a very clear sign of how brainwashed you are. I'm sure there are some on the far left that wacked out, just the same as there are some on the far right that wacked out. You show that everytime you post.

And your claim "The USE of such words as "Sheeple" to describe the American People just goes to show how STUPID you Libs. think that EVERYBODY is..." is incorrect. The use of the word "sheepie" is used to describe those who blindly parrot what the far right tells them to. Understand now, sheepie?

NO..The USE of the word "Sheeple" is to describe ANYONE who,, in ANY way whatsoever,, disagrees with YOU and refuses to join in your Hate Campaign against Bush..

Interresting that one who gets ALL his opinions from "Cut and Paste" Laft Wing articles should BLINDLY comment on ANYBODY for being a Parrot..

Don't get to excited just because the “Bride of Satan” is out of the race Abunai...if you have been listening to Obama he is a really good talker blending the idealogical idiocy of Jimmy Carter with the massive tax bills of Al Gore all covered in a tasty candy shell that is good enough to fool the brain dead masses. ...true accountability or even investigation would unravel Obama like a ball of twine but the MEDIA is never going to allow a spot light to fall on this guy ...they even go so far as to make excuses for him with out ever checking ...Obama will continue to benefit from a hard left American Media that has no morals about “hiding” his bad ideas to promote their agenda....
