Is anyone else following the YFZ Ranch investigations going on in Texas?

While I absolutely abhor polygamy because of it's negative effects on women, I am not totally buying the story being presented.  I thought the reason for law enforcement going in there in the first place was due to a 16 yr old's complaint of being abused.  While I absolutely agree with trying to help anyone is such an awful situation, removing every single child in the place seems a bit harsh if that is the case.  Not allowing the children's mothers to have any contact with them seems to be not in the children's or mother's best interest.  Also, why are they having such a hard time finding the 16yr old?  Does she exist?  Why are some of the children's mothers not allowed to see their children?  What good does that do?  Is that legal or is that guilt by association?  There seems to be much missing information.

My fellow bloggers, what do you think?

I was skeptical about this as well... yeah yeah I know I'm skeptical about a lot of things but I've totally lost faith in the people running our country at the moment.

It seems to me they are trying to do away with communities that are self sufficient... is the Amish next?

sorry for the double post... you can delete that... also I noticed the man they are accusing the abuse on was in a totally different State and his probation officer said he checks in frequently, no indication he was even in Texas at the time of the reported abuse.

I think that the police usually separate everyone so they will not get a chance to get form collective answers.
Kids are likely to tell it straight.
Actually in DCF cases, if a child is abused by the mother's boyfriend, the child is removed and the mother can lose the child for not protecting her, so I do not find it unusual that they are separated.
The girl may not be 16, or may have already been removed or anything.
I am waiting to see the whole story, that will probably be withheld if criminal charges are filed until after the trial.
Otherwise where will they find not prejudiced jurors?

Oh, and being only 16, the girl will be protected from the public.

They went in and removed EVERY child in the place. That is what struck me as odd. Not just the ones around the 16 yr old (whom has yet to be found). And I too noticed the connotations about the self sufficiency in one of the articles. That is something I really admire about people like that.

The people who do this honestly don't think this is wrong?!

The children need a new place to call home and so do the adult women. They've been brainwashed and need help.

Brainwashed because you don't want to live like that? I don't want to live like that either, but, if others do it is not my right to tell them they can't. I don't want to live in a city or an apartment, but others might like cities and apartments.

Those people are an entirely different breed of most human beings! What kind of mother would ALLOW her own daughter to be raped? What kind of woman would share her husband with several other women? That's just warped!

We don't know that is what happened. We don't even know that the 16 yr old in question exists. I know what you mean about the polygamy thing, but that does not make them child abusers. We do know that children being ripped from their mothers does not help the situation out. We also know what government thinks of self sufficient people.

This is really tough to enforce in a nation that allegedly has freedom of religion. Many religions around the world practice polygamy.. including Islam which is one of the top religions of the world. Other religions and customs the daughters have fixed marriages, the parents choose who they are to marry.

I guess the question comes down to this... do we want to have freedom of religion in America and by banning the religious customs are we forcing secular Christianity beliefs on other religions?

Rape of a minor is a different story and should be handled normally like any child abuse case. I find it odd that they gathered up the whole community and put them in lock down. Imagine if a child gets molested from your church by your pastor and all the members of the church are rounded up and your children taken away?

Seems quite odd to me.

There is a big difference between brain washing and the customs you grew up with.

You're only Christian because your parents were Christian. If you were born to Muslim parents you would most likely be Muslim.. and so forth. It's the ideas, beliefs, customs you were raised on.

Brainwashing is taking an adult and changing their beliefs and morals. Did this community leader "Brain Wash" these people or is this their religion that their parents raised them on? From what I understand this community practices the old original Mormon religion. Of course from the rhetoric we heard during the primary elections on the Mormon religion that's popular today even that was called a cult by Christians. I guess any religion that is not Christianity to some people is considered a "Cult".

Hmmm. Having sex with a child of 16. Let me think here,,,,I went into the military at 17 and girls are getting pregnant all the time at a younger age...Jerry Lee Lewis married his COUSIN at I believe to be 13. Some states had laws a while back where you could marry a teen with no problem; I believe Louisiana had the most lenient law. I've got to look the current laws up. See ya in a little while.

The only people who WANT to live this way are the MEN who have created these societies. The women and children are brainwashed into this way of life and those who wish to leave live in fear of being caught trying to escape.

The women don't seem to be held there. There was a news crew with cameras there today and nobody seemed to want to leave. They even defended their way of life.
Being a lifestyle you couldn't live with doesn't make it wrong.
Their major crime seems to be that they don't want the government to interfere with their lives.

If you go to the above link, the women don't seem to be held against their will.

Zbert is right, their major crime does seem to be that they don't want government to interfere with their lives. Also, that they are self sufficient enough to not need government in any way shape or form.

California recently passed a law making home schooling basically illegal. The government doesn't want you to be free.
If you don't want government help, you must be a criminal.
