Everyone always says that the war in Iraq can't really be understood unless someone you care about is over there.  I guess you can look at the politics, the economic side of things, but from an emotional standpoint those don't even come close.

I just found out today that someone I care about is getting deployed.  And I can't believe it.  And many of my friends are turning 18, and the boys are enlisting.  The war, finally, after . . . how many years has it been?  5?  6?  It's just now hitting home from me.  That people I admire, people I respect, and in some of the boys' cases people that I've grown up with could just be whisked away to the other side of the world to risk their lives . . .

I can't understand it.

It is a love for the this country and the freedoms it offers. Freedom was never free dear and it never will be. These boys you know who are enlisting for the love of this country are ones of the bravest kind and I would hope you feel honored to know them. They deserve our deepest respect and gratitude and it will be these boys that stand up and save this country from all who plan to destroy it. Pray for them and for what you call home.

Freedom is never "free". Keep them in your hear, thoughts and prayers.

Hopefully your friend will return home, safe and sound and in victory.........not just return home.

I pray for the troops every day, and if I know someone I pray for them by name. I hope that is some comfort.
I would love to go in the place of one of these young ones, whose lives are just starting. But at 58 years, they tell me I am too old. Imagine that!
So I pray.

Hey Pink, Everyone here is right, you have little more than to pray for them, and their safe return, and if the unimaginable happens then to realize that they gave the greatest sacrifice for their country, by their choice they do this to help keep our freedoms.

Made in Texas, they tell me the same thing, 41 too old, even with prior experiance, minimal as it is.

Well said bassplayer92, It's hard to say, we will see you later to our troops. All we can do is pray for safe return and our country and what this world is going threw. May God comfort all that are leaving their loved ones to serve our country or who have served our country.

Thanks everyone. I am praying, believe me. Since none of my guy friends are over there yet--and hopefully won't, since Obama got elected--I'm a little less worried about them.

As for my friend that's waiting to get deployed, I'm going to write to her and send her care packages. Maybe I could get the school in on it . . . I think she'd like getting a bunch of notes and cards and things like that.

Is there someone to print these blog comments without getting into confidentiality issues, and send them to your friend. So she know that the thoughts and prayers extend pretty far!

There are a lot of problems in the world, and if I'm the one to change them . . . I've got God on my side and I'm up to the challenge!
