The people of New Orleans suffered a terrible natural disaster. And where was their president when they needed the government's help?

To the people of New Orleans,

It was Senator McCain’s birthday, and the President honored the occasion with a cake….I don’t see a problem with that, and it’s not as if they knew that a devastating hurricane was going to strike or that the levees were going to fail.

They knew the harricane was comeing in was advertised for days before it hit. Bush and McCain were out of touch with the people in this country. All they cared about was the war and taking care of the Iraqi people whom they felt should be liberated, regardless of what the Iraqi people felt.

Hacksaw if you were in Iraq dry and warm that is because Iraq is where all of our money went and the people in lousiana had to suffer and die.

whiteneck in November they will be eating crow!

Obama would not work at Wal-mart he is over qualified for the job. You could not give him the job, or beg him to take it.

George Bush allegedly had a stellar resume, executive experience and he ran the country into the ground.

Obama will be the best president this country has "ever" had and you will be better off for it.

Hmmm, so according to you, both President Bush & Senator McCain knew that Hurricane Katrina was coming to destroy New Orleans but still chose to stand around on a runway and celebrate McCain’s birthday and be photographed doing so, knowing how bad it would look to see pictures of them smiling together while people were suffering & dying – do you realize just how silly you sound sometimes?

You’re way off base in your “assumptions” about what the Iraqi people felt about Saddam, or us being thee in general – heck, Saddam had survived numerous assassination attempts by the public that you claim liked him so much long before we ever arrived & removed him, and besides, our troops were in Afghanistan and then Iraq long before that hurricane stuck and caused the levees to fail & flood the city, and the reason that I was “dry & warm” is because a desert is a very hot place, especially in August!

"They knew the harricane was comeing in was advertised for days before it hit"

I had the privilage of attending a FEMA/State of Virginia conference around 1993. Even then, they made it clear that New Orleans had invested literlly nothing into their preparation for a Hurricane. Their point with that statement was to advise ALL cities that they were directly responsible for their preparations and safety. FEMA is typically a response unit. They stated that the Orleans Levee District, who were responsible for repair and upkeep, were underfunded. Translation, the city made budget cuts to that dept for other 'programs'. Federal funding had been increased however the money was being 'banked' for future use. Nagin and then governor Blanco didn't even suggest city evacuations until AFTER the Fed had advised to evacuate. That's inexcusible but it still didn't stop people from pointing at the wrong person. People forget just how much evacuation aid was refused by citizens that didn't want to leave.
Everyone shared blame in the whole situation including FEMA but the whole situation could have been far more avoidable if the local government had been better prepared.

Another thing to remember is that Katrina was NOT a direct hit on New Orleans. In fact, direct damage from Katrina was minimal. The storm passed well east of Orleans leaving the NW quadrant, which is the weaker side, to brush New Orleans. This issue was more of a surprise because the worst of it happened after the storm had passed. What isn't mentioned is that the folks of Mississippi, where the storm REALLY hit, recieved worse response from FEMA than New Orleans. It just so happens that the community participation was far better.

There was a time line posted some time back that shows when the president was notified and what he was doing each time. It was posted on the internet and in this blog site. The time line as the information went to Bush was very damning. By the time he got to the cake on the runway, he had received several notices and information about what was going on. I think if you google Katrina time line you will find it on the internet. I see he is more involved with Gustav, he learned a lesson from Katrina, so much that the Republican convention has been shorten and Bush and Chaney will not be there. They are keeping an eye on Gustav to make sure everything goes smooth.

Hey Polarbear,

You forgot to mention this fact too: your party's moonbat governor Kathleen Blanko screwed up communications with Bush and the National Guard! While Blanko hunkered away in the barn, she did nothing to help prepare for the storm until it was too late! By the time the storm hit hard on New Orleans, FEMA was stuck with the problems that BLANKO caused in preparing for Katrina. The primary blunder goes to BLANKO for her brainless screw ups in this mess.

What did she do afterwards? She cowered out of running for reelection, knowing that she would get whipped by Bobby Jindal! With Bobby Jindal in charge, Louisiana stayed on top of this hurricane! When the voters in Louisiana vote, they'll remember your donkeys polarbear!

By the way, note that I said PRIMARY BLUNDER goes to Blanko...yes, the White House also slipped up, BUT NOT NEARLY AS MUCH AS BLANKO DID! Blanko was the one who really started the blundering, which dominoed only because she started it!
