When you decide to go to war, make sure you go ball’s deep. The ROEs (Rules of Engagement) have devolved to the point of absurdity and our forces are more fearful of UCMJ violations than they are of enemy insurgents. This devolution of the ROEs in Iraq originated from an institutional CYA instinct by the DOD and senior commanders resulting from sensationalist media coverage of such events as Abu Ghraib, CIA "secret prisons", and various manufactured Gitmo abuse claims.

The Ethiopian Army has imposed no such constraints on itself and is doing to Islamist forces in Somalia in days what the UN, and the US weren’t able to achieve in years. Reports from the front indicate that the Islamic Courts who had been administering Sharia law in Mogadishu have surrendered and fled the city in advance of the Ethiopian assault. Obviously, the Ethiopian Army’s combat power, training, and capabilities are a mere fraction of ours and yet they are decisively defeating a fanatical and entrenched enemy in an urban environment. Why?

Off the top of my head, I would say that Ethiopia is not afflicted with a pernicious and defeatist media machine that is capable of manipulating public opinion, and even if it was, it doesn’t look like the Ethiopian president would give a damn in any case. The word that comes to mind is resolve. When a leader resolves to send men into battle, he is obligated to withstand the criticism of the media so that the troops who are withstanding hostile fire from the enemy are able to decisively defeat that enemy. This is the area where the President, Rumsfeld, and the Generals have been found wanting. Wars cannot be won with restrictive ROEs that allow the enemy to use our self imposed limitations against us. If the situation dictates that ROEs of this type must be employed, then it has not yet reached a point where combat troops are warranted.

This vicious cycle, in my opinion, is a primary reason for our difficulties in Iraq and the reversal of these policies, meant to protect military commanders and administration officials from criticism, would end up being the best "way forward" strategy that we could employ.

And the truly sad part is it is the SAME enemy ! The so called “court” is Al Qaeda ! The only difference is that we play “mother may I” before we do anything. I wish Ethiopia best of luck but without help and support they will lose in there fight for their lives. There are just to many Al Qaeda fighters in the “Horn “region , and if you take the time to look up the “real news” outside the American bubble the UN will not be looking at the situation for a “few more days” , the Muslim leader of the African Alliance is demanding a troop with draw (for Ethiopia not for the Islamic Militia) and the “Court” is promising a counter attack that WILL devastate Ethiopia's military and open the door for their conquest by Al Qaeda.......................But who cares there Black! Right? Right?

Why does no one ever want to talk seriously about the real wars that we are in? Are we (you me Hawkeye and a few others ) surrounded by idiots that think they can make statements without ever addressing the facts?

Worse then that! ! !
When PROOF positive of what we have been warning everybody about for years actually becomes an actual event,( 9/11 )
At LEAST 25% ( RETARTDS ) of the POPULATION thinks the GOVERNMENT did it and ANOTHER 25% or so ( EQUALLY RETARDED ) says it's OUR OWN FAULT.....
Nature eliminates these RETARDS from the population FOR A REASON, THEY are a DANGER to the SPECIES...
AIN'T MEDICAL SCIENCE GRAND !!!

Surrounded by idiots is an understatement. Park yourself in front of the tube and let the media put the 'facts' into your head so you don't have to worry about thinking. Don't read, don't discuss. ROE's? We aren't talking about the queens rules for boxing. Get rid of the cameras, get rid of the moment to moment coverage, use our might and if they still have a newspaper or tv station left when we are done, then WE GO BACK and fix that too.

Here is a fun fact when registering for this cite, if you say yes to the FIM your name goes red! So if I don't agree to the FIM am I not bound by its rules on the blog? Being black could have its advantages!
