I don't understand the issues with pumping our own oil compared to buying it from other countries. In short we have a large amount of oil in this country. Open the reserves in Alaska and off the coast to being pumped. It's a win win situation for everyone. Companies will take all precautionary steps to insure there is no spills. This is a matter of great importance and need to be allowed. At one time I was wishing for $1.75 a gallon gas now I'm wishing for $2.50 a gallon gas. I can't afford $4 a gallon gas. Saying don't drive is easier said then done in this country. All of them other countries who say we have cheap gas don't live here and know what the common family has to deal with.

It's not that we can't do anything about it but that some individuals don't want us to.

Let us pump our own oil and let the world know we are not held hostage because of oil. i think that this is a greater risk to our national security then little countries.

Read this and many other web sites, the cars should be on the market and for sale right now. Our EPA is the issue.

If i crave nicotine should i smoke double or simply quit?? We cant live off oil forever and for people who wish to jump on the ground and say "More more" it, again, is likely sticking a band-aid on a cancerous tumor.

Eventually, we are going to have to find alternate
fuel sources. That is going to take time. Hopefully, we can proceed with caution, and not have another mad, hell bent for leather, caution to the wind fopah like the current biofuel mess. (the way biofuel production is creating havoc with the world woof supply)

ANWR, offshore drilling ect. will be a stop-gap solution to fill the viod while we slowly, cautiously convert.

To hell with the eco-terrorist, DO IT!!!!

I agree we can't live off oil forever. But right now we do not have an alternative and it doesn't look like we have one in the current future. Being the case it is we need to supply our thirst for energy and do it. We need more energy efficient cars and trucks. We don't stop making them we improve them and our thirst for oil will diminish.

No longer do we talk about cars by way of comfort but now in fuel efficiently. I also notice that more SUV's are off the road leading the trend to smaller more efficient cars. A previous Hummer owner now feels guilty for spending so much fuel and now drives a hybrid. He brags how little gas he uses now.

Smaller, more fuel efficient death traps. When the death toll starts going up on American roads, when the insurance rates soar to cover the cost of the carnage, will Amricans be so happy about trading in the SUV's to save a buck on fuel. Is our safety really that cheap. If, God forbid, you or your family are in a major accident, can you live with your decision to save a few dollars at the pump.

I agree with you but its the "treehuggers" that stop us from doing this in our own country! When you think about it, there is NO reason why we don't have our own supply. And as far as not driving, thats crazy...should we put our kids on the handlebars of our bike? That will be great when it rains and snows......

Let's hope we can bury these "Greenies" before they bury us. They are on the verge of causing a global catastrophe. These green legislations will lead to war for oil. It's coming. Grren legislation is not about saving the earth, it's about power and control of society, with Al Gore as it's puppet master.

I was at the bank making the weekend deposit and there was a line of people turning their change into bills. We all started talking about the difficulty to buying food and keeping gas in our cars. Prices are just too high. This was in West Norriton. Most of them are unemployed and barely making ends meet. A Couple of years ago they had good jobs and never thought they wouldbe down to exchanging thier change to buy lunch for their children. They earn too much for help but they don't earn enough to live. It's horrible.

What is wrong with protecting the enviornment? England produces their own fuel and they are paying double what we pay here! The solution is to change our behaviours! Leave the suburbs! Allow green spaces to remain green! Move to cities and take public transportation! Destroy deteriorating communities and rebuild them! Have a fuel efficient vehicle! Drive ONLY WHEN NECESSARY! TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AND STOP BEING SO SUBURBAN with your traffic, pick-up trucks, SUV's, and expressways! Use public transportation when commutuing to work, school, or for leisure! If enough of us do it, it will be a significant step in the right direction!

As for alternative fuels, I say HYDROGEN is the wave of the future. It's flaw today is that it is not very affordable. Hopefully there will be something to correect that in the future...

A more immediate solution is exactly what future President Obama is proposing. taxing windfall profits on Oil Companies. In addition to that, in my opinion, fuel prices is not an American issue... it is an INTERNATIONAL issue! And as such we need INTERNATIONAL support! With countries like India and China beginning to use Oil more, it is a major contributor of increasing oil prices. Supply and demand. So when America visits big oil and request change, we are not saying much. Who cares? They still have China and India along with many other countries in the world. AND they still have a MONOPOLY (Capitalism at its finest, and in its truest form). However, if America could unite with Australia, Canada, China, India... and others (not the UK who produces it's own fuel, LOL!) and negotiate, I am sure that would make a big difference and Big Oil would be more likely to listen.

Moving everyone into cities is not a feasible solution. Don't forget the UK gets pais more than us and their cars average higher gas mileage

Nobody wants to trash the environment, not even the Republicans. Wwe want reasonable legislation that will protect the environment without causing economic catastrophy. We want legislation that drives business and encourages forward thinking , not legislation that will set us back 200 years. We want sane solutions that won't send American businesses running for countries that don't give a rats a$$ about carbon footprints. The road were on now will bankrupt American business and our economy, and will eventually lead to war for oil. All in the name of saveing a Polar Bear 5000 miles away (BTW, that polar bear has enjoy a 5 fold population increase in the last 25 years) It's not the Polar Bears we should be worried about, with China and India's economic prosperity (without green legislation) they will enjoy the same fate as our frien the polar bear......imagine, economic prosperity and a 5 fold increase in an already over crowded world. They will need more land........I wonder, how would China aquire more land?

The rest of the world don't care we have hard times here. They are probably using it to their beneifit showing just how bad it is here in the U.S. We need to join together and work at solving our issue. Nobody wants to destroy our world for our children but I want the children to have a world to live in. Movealready is right in saying that this will cause a war. The war is going to happen right here. We are hated by many countries and if they know our energy resources are cut and we don't have the energy to protect ourselves; they can come right in. We need to secure ourselves now. We need to supply ourselves with our oil and begin measures to find alternative forms of energy to curb our need for oil. The person who says to move to the city and take public transportation is wrong. I am proud to be an American. This should be a wake up call before it's too late. Many countries sell us oil not because they like us but because they need money.

With modern day technology, we can build more refineries, tap offshore oil and ANWR, with little chance of environmental disaster. How many oil rigs did Katrina knock down? How many spills were there?

Hydrogen is one of the most plentiful elements in the universe. However, very little, if any, is produced naturally on the planet earth. Which means, of course, that we have to make hydrogen, that, combined with the fact that hydrogen is also hard to sustain, makes for some serious $$$ investment. While it may be a viable option down the road, something tells me it's going to be a long trip. I have also heard that nuclear reactors can be altered to produce hydrogen as a by-product, but, guess who is stifiling us there?? Again, even the founder of Greenpeace is on board for nuclear power.

The greenies and over taxation are the main problem in my opinion.

We got it...LETS USE IT!!
