It was in this mornings Inquirer that people are complaining about Comcast moving HBO into the digital area of their cable service in Philly, which would mean forcing people to take out Comcast's digital service,  $4.95 a month more  for each cable box in order to watch the Saprano's.  I live at the Jersey shore area and have Comcast of Toms River as my cable provider.  We have been complaining to Comcast also as they moved Philadelphia channels 10 and 57 into their digital service area.  When you call and complain, they tell you that the stations wanted them to do this, yet when you call the stations to complain about it, they telll you they had nothing to do with it.  Comcast is just blackmailing people into taking out their digital service at an extra cost, to watch programs which they have been receiving for years over the analog system.  It's time that the Government stops permitting Comcast from buying off all the other cable company's, and giving us other cable campany's to choose from.  There is no competition now, Comcast is a monopoly now, that does as it pleases.  Charging more and more everytime you turn around for less service and programing.  I will not take out their digital service,  I'm already thinking of putting an antenna back on my roof to be able to receive channels 10 and 57 again without paying their blackmail price for digital service.

You have at least one option currently...

Dish/Direct Tv.

Verizon is also starting to roll out fios which will be another alternative.

Check out the following link to see if its available in your area. If not sign up to be notified when it is.

comcast is a media provider thats needed to be regulated for many years, theyb have been allowed to monopolise phila. sports for years and now they are trying to squeeze every last drop out of its subscribers- i have had direct tv for over 3 years and cant wait till the day we the people revolt and launch a class action suit against comcast for violating the laws of common descentcy

Leaving Comcast was the BEST thing I ever did in my life. They do not care. Period. The customer service you get from Comcast questions how they can still be in business. Do the right thing and get a dish. You get more channels, cheaper rates and you get a beautiful crisp picture. Show them you will not be pushed around.

I am mad as hell but I am afraid to change. There customer service is terrible. I ordered DDR Service and they brought the wrong type of box. It took them a week to rectify the problem and when I asked for a credit for the week I did not have the DDR service, they said to bad because I could have stopped by their Northeast Office and exchanged the box. So put the onus on the custimer for their error. Also note that the letter they just sent out says that digital boxes will cost $3.95 more a month after the 12 month promo period. I inquired about the $3.95 price and the Customer Service department said it was a typo and that it will be $4.95 when the promo period expires.

That is why I am so glad when Verizon FIOS became available in our area. When we found out, we had it installed and comcast was gone within days. They suck. that's the only true way to say it. They do not care about their customers. They only care about the company. I really hope Verizon and Directv put a serious hurting on comcasts business. They deserve it those money sucking scoundrels.

All of you are right. Even the basic service services less, but I am also afraid to change. I keep thinking all the other companies will change once their belts have to be loosened, just like Comcast's.

you are all right comcast puts all of there channels in to there digital boxes bu then when you watch digital cable they block most of the channels and you would geta message saying for ordering information press info that would mean 120 channels out of 300 channels are blocked but with the 900 channels you could get with a dish 0 out of 900 are blocked if you want them all and if so you would pay much less than comcast. on my one tv I was forced to get the new box so I could have comcast digital cable on both tvs instead of one they said the new box would come in one week it came in 2 1\2 weeks when it came I installed it on the manual it said EASY INSTALLION with in 45 minutes after the actavation phone call well that was a joke I went through 6 different phone calls to comcast. and then a service man had to come out 6 days later that was the longest 45 minutes I have ever heard of the manual should have said 6 day installion. that is just a taste of what other comcast customers go through. so I would say some action needs to take place on the comcast cable bills that seam like they go up faster than the stock market.

being a former worker of comcast cable everything that comcast does is completely planned and out and any change involves higher prices for the cable cusotmer!!

please note as of Feb 2009 all analog tv owners will have to buy a hi def converter which will run about 20.00 until tv sets are made with them on the inside !!! the government will be giving out discount coupons for lower income families, but please chaos will insue from this !!

I'm originally from the Fishtown section of Philadelphia. Still visit the old neighborhood a lot as my family is still in Fishtown and Port Richmond. I enjoy fishing, crabbing, and swimming, and gardening.
