Shouldn't everyone in wisconsin have car insurance?  There are so many people without, and our premiums constantly go up for the people that don't have it. If everyone had insurance then our premiums would go down. What do you think?

The last time I checked, the Wisconsin Statutes read something like...You must have insurance OR BE PREPARED to do one of the following three things...one of which was to BE WILLING to make restitution for damages caused by you. So to be incompliance with state law all you have to do is be prepared to be willing to make resititution. In any event, you're not required by law to have automobile insurance in Wisconsin. Contact your local state representative and tell them you want auto insurance to be required by law.

only problem with this, is no matter if everyone is insured or not, the insurance industry raises their rates, no matter for health, home, or auto insurance.

Found out when we just bought the house, if you dont have a mortgage you dont need insurance?!?! so if your house burns you are SOL? YUP.

Same for auto and health, the reason our rates go up is not just the uninsured, but the under-insured. you can look at the recent floods this last summer as proof of that, some of those persons had insurance, but no rider for floods on their policy, they are out the replacement for their goods & repairs. while their insurance premiums were paid, and probabaly raised due to an "act of God" even though they were never paid from the insurance company, since it has happened to them once it could happen again.

Ins. companies like the idea of getting paid for not haveing to pay claims, and their ability to "fleece" their customers, and pay out as little as they can.

Businesses must carry ins. per WI law, but the ins. company can enforce repayment for major incident claims, yet the business paid for their coverage, again it is a case of the State taking care of the BIG GUY not the taxpayers.

Several years ago, I spoke to our Assembly Representative Sheldon Wasserman. He stated that the insurance companies said the rates would go way up, if everyone had to be insured.

Since the State of New York requires every vehicle to be insured (and proof of it) before you can register a car, I don't quite understand it.

I believe everyone should be required to carry insurance.

When I was stationed at the Pentagon I lived in Virginia. Insurance was also required to register your car. Being in the military, I got around it by keeping my car registered in Wisconsin. As it was my "home of record", I was perfectly within my rights. However, I knew a lot of people who paid the first ninety days of a policy to register their car and then simply let the insurance lapse. It's my understanding that insurance is a requirement in Illinois as well.

Yes, Insurance is required in Illinois as well,Texas,California, and Arizona. Not sure about other states? About those restitution charges....I don't believe in those simply because my husband and I were hit by a drunk driver and it was this guys 5th offense. Not only that, the guy took off. went to court they said he had to pay restitution after he paid his child support that he was behind on.
That was almost 12 years ago. They don't have to pay the money for your injuries or your totaled car. As this guy had a revoked license and no insurance.

It's an unfortunate circumstance, but I think regardless of what laws might be enacted to require drivers to have insurance people will drive their cars & trucks without it. It doesn't surprise me that the guy who hit you had no license or insurance, and was behind on his child support. He probably never paid the child support either. It would seem as though we live in a world devoid of pride, self esteem, and personal resposibility at times. Another sad fact of life brought to you, at least in part, by our increasingly socialized system of government.

Your right, and I think the car insurance thing should at least be pushed at some point here.
