I think the men and women of the Philadelphia Police Department deserve a voice during this tragic time. Although this recent incident is unfortunate and looks very bad on the surface I think all things should be considered. These officers were responding to an extremely violent call. While police officers should be held to a higher standard many things should be discussed. This incident is not a daily occurrence, however the violence they respond to most certainly is. Over the last two years our city has become increasingly more violent and despite losing 3 our their own, limited resources and low man-power these men and women go out every day and put their lives on the line to help keep us safe. The career criminals they arrest are given numerous chances to better their lives, but instead continue to flood our streets with violence. As reported one of the men arrested has 17 prior offenses and was still walking our streets as a free man, while because of this one incident many of our officers are going to be stripped of their duty and disgraced. These officers are preparing for yet another funeral they must attend and just weeks away from a ceremony that will be honoring one of the officers they worked along side of very closely. And if they are stripped of their duty they will not be permitted to attend these ceremonies in uniform to give honor to their fellow fallen men. The 3 officers they have lost over the last 2 years were killed in senseless and violent cold-blood. The 3 men that were arrested are being portrayed as victims by the media and their families. Keep in mind that our police officers respond to gun violence every day. Many times this gun violence occurs for simple reasons such as an argument or a disrespectful comment. They are there front and center and see the victims that have been severely wounded, they are the ones that have to notify families that one of their loved ones has been killed. As I said this incident is very unfortunate but the true victims here are the men and women that risk their lives every day in hopes of keeping us safe from the senseless violence that has been plaguing our city.
