I am sure I am going to be pegged a racist for posing this question, but that will be nothing new for any non-liberal on this site.
I want to know, now that there is a black man or "man of color" (since some are insistent that he is not black) that holds the most powerful position in the United States, will black people still be able to claim that "the Man" is keeping them down?
I don't have a tremendous amount of faith in Obama, however if I think one good thing can come of his election, it is that the black communities (specifically the poor ones) will see that anything is attainable if you work hard for it and that white America as a whole is not racist. Hopefully racism and "the Man" will no longer be used as a crutch for people who simply don't aspire to be successful.
On the other hand, I worry that Obama being as liberal as he is will just create even more social programs to hand out even more money to the poor. I think if anything, the creation of social programs for poor people of any race, religion, etc is what keeps people down and perpetuates racism.
