Florida Plates Crosses Leftist ACLU (My Fox Orlando)

It has come to nationwide attention that the ACLU has decided to start a lawsuit to stop Florida's plans to introduce a new cross design onto its custom designed license plates. Like many states which offer a variety of choices for themed license plates, Florida has chosen to offer its motorists a Cross on some of the choices for its plates. However, the ACLU has decided to step in, and sue the state of Florida to prevent this plate from ever being available to the motorists, stating that it violates the separation of church and state. Proponents for this plate say that it is merely offering more choices for motorists, and that Florida is not endorsing any religion as an official religion of the State.

Where do you Orlando Florida residents stand on this issue?

The First Amendment gives people the right to practice religion and that the state should make no laws to restrict the freedom thereof.
The AlCU needs to be sued for it's continuous attempts to interfer in how people wish to practice their religion.
Personally, I would not like to see the cross that represents my faith on a license plate.
I find it demeaning.
But I respect the right of others to express their faith however they wish.

I love the X-Ray Plate!!  Fantastic!

But, it is no surprise that the ANTI CHRISTIAN LAWYERS UNION would take action.  I wish they would go after the Counsel on American Islamic Relations with the same energy.  I would be a happy spectator, probably enthusiastically cheering the Islamists, for a change.

The First Ammendment says "Congress shall make no laws...". It doesn't say anything about the States.
It also doesn't give anybody any right to practice religion. It does prohibit the Federal Government from getting involved.

The real problem is that all the other specialty plates have a specific recipient for the funds.
The proposed plates have no specific recipient. Who will determine which organizations will get the funds? If the government is involved, they will. Do you want the government involved in determining what is a religion?
Only an idiot would think this wouldn't happen.

I was in the DMV last week registering a new vehicle and I had the time to look at all the plates currently available , I counted 4 religious themed plates and one that has the image of a cross on it...why would one more be of any consequence ? And are any of you getting a clue about where the ACLU is really coming from now that you can plainly see yet another case in witch they are demanding that a form of self expression be denied ?

O yea Arky ...one of our plates currently available represents a Muslim collage and supports CAR with direct contribution...I did ask the woman who was helping me and she said that what I was looking at was less than 1/3 of the plates that are available....

Good eye (blue dog) my statement is almost wrong (serves me right for repeating something told to me by another person without verification) but your wrong as well ! Lynn university proudly donated all the revenue it received last year and the year before from this program to CAIR ...LOL !!!!!

Where did you get that info? Was it the same one that gave you the info about the plates?

Wrong again. If they did give any money to CAIR (not likely with their mission statement), they did not do it proudly because there is no mention on their website. ROTFLOL!!!

I've been getting some very interesting replies here...Thanks for all the posts so far! I've gotten more here than the nearly identical post on the Tampa Bay site. Stay active folks! The ACLU seems to want to waste our money by having frivolous lawsuits against anything that will give them publicity...what a bunch of trouble makers! Feel free to comment all you want guys and gals!

ACLU..........Jeez what a group, They will defend the Nazis the Islamist, murderers,
rapists, damn near anyone we "normal" people would support lynching at dawn.

Oh yeah thats exactly what our Constitution Does isn't it. ............ Most of the time I hate the ACLU,what it does,and the causes it champions, but at no time have I ever been prepared to see it disbanded.

Precisely because it takes up the defense of unpopular causes, precisely because it does the things I hate about it, It has earned my fullest intellectual respect even as it earns my emotional contempt.

If it did not exist we would demand someone start it.

I'm a life long North Orange County California resident. I work behind the scenes in radio, and I understand the pressures that the folks at Fox 11 and My 13 news go through to do a live show professionally. I don't like it when politicians try to make our government bigger than it is now. I oppose many of the things the Democrats are doing, because in my thoughts, they are selling out the public to nothing but garbage. In other areas, I'm an Anaheim Angels fan.
