There are codes for decks and railing....!!

Girl nearly falls over cliff as video camera rolls

http://www.katu.com/news/34335244.html a>

A cute little girl and a fun family outing almost turns deadly because of railing that wouldn't pass any inspection..... Kids have been falling through deck railing often over time..... There are codes and inspections for these reasons...... The rail on the video clip was not only in violation of the maximum gap allowed but also the minimum height.... If there is a way to get through a child will find it..... If an inspector signed off on that railing I sincerely hope he gets his hands slapped.......

Have you ever been told to redo something by an inspector?

Oer the years of selling real estate I have seen some real lu lu's in people taking short cuts and their work not being up to code.....

I think double lugging is the most common violation....

Morning there Mr_Wild...I was first licensed in Real Estate in 1993 and showed TOO many homes until around 2001. Just like you, I saw some crazy stuff and yep that stupid electrical violation was probably number one.

Stairs without railings, lack of GFCIs (aka: GFI) in proper places, and the safety "eye" on garage doors was another one. People would block this (or remove it) so their doors would not be hindered.

When we built our home a few years ago, I basically knew the codes and our builder was sharp too. The only thing that I learned was if your deck wasn't done then you have to have that sliding door boarded shut until the deck is installed.

Not all of us made it Rosie....... This is why groups like OSHA and others were formed..... But you have to remember that when we were young the speed limit was 55 and there was a lot less traffic....... Homes were built a little different for there were hardly any codes back them.....

watch the video again, i wouldnt dare put my grandkids against that pole, it was obviously a dangerous place to let the lil girls hang onto... its like putting them out in a busy street to video them, what the heck, parents need some common scense too, for crying out loud, thats why they are adults

my old boss was harrased by a city about his mothers property so he went to every city property and took photos and he showed the city that some of the city properties needed work including city hall that had some bad shingles so they quit bothering his mother about her property.

My dad used to rehab homes and they bought a home once that had a bathroom newly installed in the basement... one problem.. it was all for show.. none of the plumbing pipes were run. No water pipes, no sewer drain NOTHING.

Sure my dad missed that when he bought it which was his fault, but didnt an inspector for St charles county check it before the home could be sold? The county inspector did thou make the perv. owner redo the driveway to bring it up to code, but had no problem with the fake bathroom. Weird.

rosie.. my thinking too. If it's too scary for me to stand in front of, my kids won't be placed there. That was a HUGE drop. I wouldn't stand that close to it!

It's got to be costly to protect us (general population) from ourselves.

Saw the clip on the news and have one question....."What in the h*** were the parents doing that they allowed this kid to be messing around that close to the railing that was obviously unsafe?"

The kid will obviously be forced to wear a bicycle helmet in the future, will survive and grow up to become a tort litigator.

You know if this was in your back yard the building inspector would be all over you like a cheap suit, yet since its a state erected guardrail there isn't much that will be done.

In a heartbeat an inspector would reject it around here....... I had to rebuild some steps for my mom because the inspector said the fall was half an inch too much...... The steps looked fime but just off in measurement......

The facts are you can see the beautiful view, that's why they stopped there. Do they not think the children need to be attended?
Let's not blame the parks for not putting up a nine foot security fence that only an immigrant can scale.
