Hi Movieman, I shared Italian Cristmases with a lot of my friends. Twelve course meals, you're done with this, now you gotta eat that etc. Now with the Feast of San Genero, my wife forbids me to go there....unless she gors with me. I was brought up by my Grandparents and even though they had no money, they always had a tree and cheap little items that they always individually wrapped. My granfather showed me how to make houses for the village under the tree. That mushroomed into me every year putting up a tree with Bethlehem under the tree and I made a snowy Vermont for my mantle and a Snowy Village in the dining room. On our bookcase at my front door I have three shelves with stores, parks, skating rinks and a bunch of other stuff. I clip branches from all of my evergreens and twigs from my other trees to make authentic trees for all of my villages.
I freaked the first time I went to Fortunoffs Chistmas Store and saw that they did the same thing. Hey, you asked and I told ya!
My grandpaerents are long gone too, but we seem to have the fact that we keep them alive by carrying on the tradition.
I just can't eat all that food.
