I have to post this, I work on Capitol Dr.  have for almost 10 years and everytime I have to get gas I make sure, A. I get it before work in the W.B. or B. I try to drive to Meno. Falls  but if I can't make it and I have to stop on Capitol or Hampton everytime it seems to never fail that someone is coming up to me and asking for a dollar or any change I have for some food or even had a kid ask if I wanted to buy a cell phone that he had about three of....... When I told someone I didnt have any money I was coming out of the station with some smokes so because I had no money he want a cig.... This is getting bad, I grew up in Milwaukee and I cant believe that we cant even get gas.... I don't understand all the time these people spend hanging out and getting pissed off at people that dont want to give up things that they work hard for, you would think  they will get the hint that all that effort could be used to get a job or at least try to do something to earn the cash, instead I have to be put in a place that I dont want to be in. I think that I am a nice person and if someone needs help I would like to do that but at this day in age you cant even take the chance...... Sorry to the family of that guy  I feel really bad... to the people that killed him I guess you have 3 meals and a roof over your head NOW!!!!   Its a shame........

That's because a lot of the inner city residents are all on drugs, starving or money hungry greedy people. They dont care about anything except themselves. They dont pick up their garbage. They dont control their children. They dont care they dont care and they dont care. This breeds scum. Even kids can become scum if the parents are busy smoking their crack pipes when they should be teaching them fractions.

I work at school not far from there. The kids said they saw a huge fight at Walmart in Midtown on Thursday. They said someone got shot. Is this true also or is this the same incident?

I just can't fathom the thought process of a person who has no reservations on killing someone and robbing them. How can you not see that you are taking the life of someone's son or daughter, brother or sister, father or mother. That you are about to shatter the lives of a family. That the last time that person laughed or hugged a person was truly their last, and had they known, would've never stopped. It's heart breaking. No remorse. No thought on the consequences. Just heartless. With that, I can't believe that there are those that would fight tooth and nail to protect the rights of a cold blooded killer like that and take the responsiblity away from a murderer by blaming society or the unfair advantage they had in life. There are countless success stories of people coming out of the inner city, getting an education, taking advantage of opportunities provided, making a life for themselves. You never or rarely hear anything about that. Instead, the thugish life of crime, drugs, and fast money is glorified everyday on TV and radio and in the media. That 16 year old will find out real fast that life behind bars is not so glamorous. Not seeing your family and friends and having your freedom stripped from you because you think you're a hard core gangster and you value your status amongst your thug friends over the life of another human being. Well, I hope you feel cool sitting in that cell. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy it.

This is a cultural thing!
Why should you work, or finish school when you can get all you need for free?
Can someone tell me how many hundreds of millions of dollars has gone into the inner city in the form of government programs, schools, food pantries, and other charities in the past year? These programs designed to help have had just the opposite effect. Why work when everything you need can be had for nothing.
When Wisconsin was a welfare magnet we attracted the worst of the worst from thoughout the country, and now we are paying the price for this. We have to realize that the city of Milwaukee is a lost cause, and start spending our money someplace else.
I won't be doing any business in Milwaukee until I can walk down the street without fearing for my life!

I hope they convict the shooter and he gets life without parole. It just irks me that my tax dollar has to be spent keeping scum like that around for 60+ years. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll try to play tough guy with another lifer and he'll end up like Jeff Dahmer did. I'm in agreement with Sick Puppy. I don't live in Milwaukee. I come that way every now and then to visit a relative in a suburb but I don't shop, dine, or take in the sights in Milwaukee. I'm not a gambler but the odds for my safety elsewhere just seem higher.

i tell you this, this town was so nice until people from chicago came here, welfare system attracted them, then the project CABRINI GREEN was torn down, which it should have been but those families should have been giving somewhere else to live, not just migrant to milwaukee, we never use to see all the panhandler on the street, gas station young and old, same stories 'I RAN OUT OF GAS' 'my children and i are trying to get back to pewaukee' knowing good and well they dont live in pewaukee, chicago should have taken care of their own like milwaukee was doing, but with all the murders going on, it wont be too people left.

I used to love to go shopping in milwaukee, the zoo, I no longer visit Milwaukee because I dont want to be the next one to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, It's happening way to much to way to many innocent people. Unfortunately now my children won't have the same fun memories at the zoo like I had due to afraid of bringing them there. It's a shame.

hello ginamarie I didnt hear anything about the shooting at Walmart on Thurs. but I will try to find out, it might have happened because the kids had no school on Fri. I had a kid come into my store wanting to call his dad because some kids where going to jump him..He was on parole and if he gets into another fight he goes to jail....That is how I know school was out on Friday because he made the comment about that was why they were starting it....

Dear: Momagina As far as social poicies go wisconsin has not been a liberal state in about 20 years. I assume you have heard of w-2 which has ironically not improved anything. Furthermore we are the 3rd most segregated city in the U.S. (Chicago is #4). Yes most of Cabrini-green is down, actually about three of the white buildings on Halsted and Division are still standing. most of the Projects in Chicago have disappeared since 1995. Ironically enough this trend began in New York city right around the time Guiliani was elected. I don't believe there is anything wrong with that per se. Murder rates in many large cities have subsequently gone down. Milwaukee is up however nowhere near it's record (set in 1991). Might we do well to take a page out of that book perhaps. The real solution is when people take ownership. It's human nature to take care of what belongs to you and not some bottomfeeding property developer.

Dear Sickpuppy: you wanted to know how much annually is spent on social programs, not even 1%. I do know that approximately 1000 times is spent on a made up war than social programs as of right not. -CNN Money August 2005-.

This was a terrible crime committed (one of many
this year) and hopefully the perpetrators get what they deserve, however, some of the things you all are saying are downright false and damaging to the progress the city has made in some areas. The zoo dangerous??? How have food pantries and services to the poor had a negative effect on life in Milwaukee? I don't believe any of you have spent any amount of time in Milwaukee to make an honest assessment
of what is really going on here. I have lived in Milwaukee for all 41 years of my life and enjoy the many things that are fun about this town; Summerfest, Jazz in the Park, State Fair,
Riversplash, all of the different ethnic festivals, which I know you all would NOT
appreciate, and the list goes on. Many members of my family have attended Milw. Public schools
and have gone on to be college graduates, all while living in Milwaukee. I would really prefer that you all not visit the city because you'll be the ones looking at me and my family as if we're the criminals. By the way,
that suspect (16 yrs. old) in the murder has been charged as an adult and will hopefully
spend the rest of his life in prison. See, we don't like the crime either, however, the city of Milwaukee is NOT a lost cause sickpuppy! The majority of us will stay to fight on.
