Okay, I like questions to which I have somewhat answers.

You bring up some good points, here, mechany, except that I don't think the United States is an experiment, anymore. The product has been put to market, but it still has some kinks that didn't show up in testing!

But an interesting perspective with this post is the fact that mechany probably would be as good a man as president as the ones running for the office.

As an example of one of our problems as an electorate, I don't see how you, mechany, could not realize the fact that there are some people in this country who just would not vote for you based on race only - sad, but true - and that is just one of our issues as a nation.

But as I interviewed during several months, I was struck by how little actual experience or talent mattered. The search was all about appearance, attitude, assertiveness, interviewing skills, interpersonal skills, pretty resumes, good looks, a firm handshake (yes, I even had some "advice" that my handshake was just not up to par) - in short, everything but what actually matters.

And it occured to me: The service people you deal with every day, or the folks who sell you your insurance, or the people making the products you use, all were hired because of anything but their actual ability to do their job. They were the cutest, or the earliest, or had the nicest suit, or LIED the most - we don't even hire people for the right reasons, anymore.
