Michael Vick's Apology
Aug 28, 2007 | 8:47 AM PST

News
Michael Vick says he's sorry for what happened, but should we believe him? It's pretty coincidental that he found Jesus at the same time he pleaded guilty, but on the other hand it sometimes takes a huge change in one's life to set you straight. We had plenty of comments into this morning's fox unplugged that we couldn't get to....here's a few comments
Nick in Cleveland says: "how is it that all of these people who are promoting mr vick finding god are making statements like "they are just dogs". we are either all gods creatures or none of god's creatures you can't use it to your advantage only when it benefits you. mr vick does deserve the forgiveness he has asked for if and when he completes his punishment. god forbid he be held accountable for murder on any of god's creatures. wake up people murder is a million times worse than non forgiveness. "
Stacey in Stow: I believe he was sincere. It is important that he take responsibilty for his actions. I like that he apologized to the kids that idolize him. My son has been a Vick fan for as long as I can remember. Everyone seems to forget all the good things he has done with his money.
Phil in Bainbridge: It amazes me how many times as soon as some criminal gets caught doing something they suddenly find Jesus. I don't believe Vick at all, and as far as I'm concerned he's just as evil as someone who murders humans. He should have been banned, not just suspended from the NFL.
Tom in Orrville: I hope he is sorry for what he has done, and for all the people he has hurt. It is between Vick and God if they have a relationship now. We are not the ones to judge that.I'm glad he said he found God, but God was not lost, HE WAS!! Thanks
What do you think?

A study says 50% of children ages 6-18 have cell phones, and 13% of those are between 6-9 years old.
I'm sure it depends on the family, but I can't imagine my 6 year old having a cell phone. First, he doesn't really do anything that he would need to be alone for. I mean he starts guitar lessons tomorrow. I might leave the music store, but I'm not going to leave the parking lot. He plays baseball, but my wife or I would be there. In the worst case, I'd make sure his grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle....Somebody would be there.
I'm not knocking parents who give kids cell phones early. There was one person who called to say...... "My 6 year old is with his grandparents several times a week, and the grandparents don't have a cell phone. So, if something happens, I want him to be able to get a hold of us." Ok, point taken. It's a special circumstance.
I think we know which kids we're talking about that are too young to have cell phones. The ones just hanging out talking in public, not paying attention to what's happening around them.
If you think your child needs a cell phone, a couple of good ideas from the viewers.
1) They have two-way radios (basically walkie talkies) that are good up to 10 miles. That's usually far enough for an elementary school student. They can radio you if they need help. All it costs you are batteries.
2) Give them your cell phone if they're staying over someone's house, or would be in a place that they need to call you.
3) Use a prepaid phone, and make them pay for it. If they're too young for a job, make them pay you out of their allowance (if they get one). The act of paying for it, may help them become more responsible.
Feel free to add your ideas,
Todd
Even the host gets it wrong sometimes.
If you played the quiz and didn't notice I spelled Mackinac wrong, then you, like me, are not smarter than a 5th grader.
If you did notice. Congrats.
Most of you got a "B" or an "A" on the quiz. So, you obviously remember more than you think you do.
There is also a bit of debate over the answer to number 5.
"the words blue and blew are examples of what?"
The answer is either homonym or homophone. Even the dictionary and english websites have some trouble with this one.
Thanks again to our 5th graders from Orchard Middle School in Solon for getting up early and playing the game with us today.
By the way, if you have a question that would be good for our game. Email me at todd.meany@foxtv.com
In the interest of disclosure, I am an organ donor. I have the sticker on my driver's license.
With that out of the way, let me tell you what's happening in South Carolina.
The senate is looking at a piece of legislation that would give prisoners a shorter sentence if they agree to be an organ or tissue donor.
How much shorter. 6 months.
Heres something to consider: Every year, more than 6500 people die while waiting for an organ transplant, because there aren't enough donors.
The proposal brings up a lot of ethical questions about basically paying or compensating someone for agreeing to donate their organs.
It also brings up a lot of logistical questions.
Does the donation have to be made while they're in prison?
What about Death row inmates?
What's to stop a prisoner from saying, "Sure I'll do it" then leaving prison and never going through with it.
What do you think?
Have you seen this new show on Fox? It's called Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
It's basically designed to humiliate anyone who can't remember back to grade school, but for those who do remember, it's a chance at one million dollars.
We were talking about the show, and said why not see if you can answer the questions.
We'll give you 9 questions and see if you are smarter than a 5th grader (the majority of these are actually 4th grade questions. the 5th grade ones were really hard)
P.S. Fox didn't tell me to do this to promote their show. We came up with this on our own.
P.S.S. I'll post the answers on my blog after 9am, so you can test your co-workers or family.

What about ODOT?
With temperatures expected to hit the 50's by next week (I can't wait!), we're hoping the major snowfalls are over. So, we wanted to ask you how you think ODOT did plowing the keeping the roads clean this year.
It's the ODOT report card. Give them a grade, and tell us why.
We'll also take comments on your city or county road crews. How did they do?
So, with the Oscars all wrapped up, we started talking in the newsroom about who would play Wayne, Tracy, Andre, Kenny, Stacey, Nyla, Melissa, and me, if there was a movie about Fox 8 News in the morning.
We decided it was probably best to leave it up to you and make it a Fox Unplugged question. We were thinking mostly Hollywood movie Actors, but it can be anybody.
Let us know what you think.
P.S. Thanks for all the great feedback about my band's appearance on the morning show Friday. If you didn't see it, you can watch it on this site, just click on the entertainment link. Also, thanks to everybody who came out Friday night to the show.

Unplugged--The Dixie Chicks

It's been four years since the Dixie Chicks said they were ashamed President Bush is from Texas.
Four years, several threats, cancelled concerts, and a big comeback later, the Chicks won Five grammy awards including record of the year.
But there are still a lot of people who can't stand the Dixie Chicks and will never forgive them for what they said.
What's your take on the Dixie Chicks:
Do you forgive them?
Do you like them more?
Do you still not like them?
Free for all Friday!!!

Happy Friday!!!!
A lot happened this week that we didn't get a chance to talk about.
-Anna Nicole Smith died yesterday. Very sad, very unexpected.
-John Amaechi, the ex-NBA player saying he's gay, and some of the unusual comments made by current NBA players.
-All these bomb threats lately.
-The ACLU says flipping the bird is protected by free speech. A guy was cited for disorderly conduct for giving police the one finger salute.
Plus, anything else you want to talk about...because It's Friday!
Have a great weekend,
Todd
IPOD OBLIVION

A New York Senator has proposed giving a ticket to people who cross the street while wearing headphones or on their cell phone.
There were a couple of people killed while using their Ipods in New York and the Senator says a 100 dollar fine will help bring awareness and save lives.
However, that means there were millions of others who weren't killed and are using their Ipods and cell phones just fine.
Who's at fault here?
-The Ipod wearers/Cell phone users for not paying attention to traffic.
-The drivers for not watching out for pedestrians crossing the street.
-The Senator for putting out a proposal that limits all the people who can listen/talk and pay attention at the same time.
School Uniforms

It looks like students in Cleveland will now be wearing uniforms to school. I know some districts have gone with uniforms as a standard for students, and some say it works really well. But this is the first major district I've heard of that wants uniforms.
Will this work for 40,000 students in Cleveland. And how much do the uniforms cost? I know our budget at home is tight, and we often use hand-me-down clothes for our kids. I would want to know how much I have to spend on these uniforms.

It's free for all Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, here's my gripe. Could I please, not be sick anymore. This is ridiculous, I'm pretty sure I've been sick since November 3rd. On December 20th, I was feeling better, but aside from that day *cough* it's been completely annoying.
So, now it's your turn.
Whether you want to talk about some serious issues, like the accusations at the pig farm from earlier this week or have some fun and talk american idol or something like that.
P.S. Have a great weekend
What's with Paula??

News
If you haven't seen the latest video of Paula Abdul during an interview, she basically looks like she's medicated or drunk. Slurring her words, closing her eyes for long periods, acting way too excited to be on tv. Her publicist claims that she was tired after 3 days of interviews and appearance.
Remember last year, when viewers kept commenting that Paula looked drunk or stoned on a couple episodes of American Idol?
It makes me wonder about this "condition" that Paula keeps mentioning. Is Idol too much for her? If she continues to be seen in public acting weird, if she should take a break from the show, or should Idol come forward with some sort of explanation so people don't keep assuming she's got a problem.
What do you think? Let us know.
Every year, hundreds of illegal immigrants die trying to cross the Mexico/US border. To help them out, some Mexican leaders have proposed giving those illegals a GPS Satellite device. That device could be used if the immigrant gets lost or hurt trying to cross the border.
It's just a proposal right now, but is already drawing some harsh criticism.
Our question today...Does it make sense for the Mexican goverment to help their people illegally cross the border, IF, it would help save hundreds of lives every year.
