It looks like students in Cleveland will now be wearing uniforms to school. I know some districts have gone with uniforms as a standard for students, and some say it works really well. But this is the first major district I've heard of that wants uniforms.
Will this work for 40,000 students in Cleveland. And how much do the uniforms cost? I know our budget at home is tight, and we often use hand-me-down clothes for our kids. I would want to know how much I have to spend on these uniforms.

What do you think?

I think this is a wonderful idea. I applaud Dr. Sanders for his plan, and I think this will make Cleveland a better school district.

I don't think so. A lot of the elementary schools already have dress codes, so they don't need uniforms.

Yes, I think they should wear uniforms. They won't have to worry if they don't have name brands clothes or shoes. I think it's a very good idea.

I think uniforms in schools are a great idea. This way students won't be picked on, and won't have to stay up with fashion. It will be less out of our pockets, too.

I think students should not have a dress code, it will not make their education any better.

I'm a mother with 3 students in the Cleveland schools, they are concentrating on the wrong thing. What they need to concentrate is keeping these students out of the cold and keep them in for recess and attendance.

I think uniforms are wonderful. It will cut down on the gang activity, the white t-shirts gangs. It's a wonderful idea.

I think no, because clothes show your uniqueness, I don't think so.

No, not uniforms. Not unless they're going to give us vouchers to pay for it. We already pay for enough. Where's the money supposed to come from. We need better education, not uniforms.

I think the uniforms are ok, but they should also have some days where they can have dress down or casual days.

I don't think it's a good idea, because some parents can't afford uniforms.

Yes, I think uniforms are a great idea, and they should do it in Euclid too.

I believe that it would be very good for them to wear uniforms, especially for the young boys so their pants don't hang down below their waist.

I agree with the uniforms. It certainly would cut down on the rediculous way some of these children look when they go to school. Shame on some of these parets. No it won't educate a child any better. But quite frankly it's up to the child to apply themselves to do that. I also don't feel the school system should have to pay for these either. Catholic and Christian schools have had uniforms forever. Even some public schools at the minimum had gym uniorms. All at the parents expense. I think it's just a way to get rid of the childrens unappropriate dress in school.

Heck when my son was in the Second grade (yep 2nd grade) there were little girls in the class picture with low cut spaghetti strap tops right in the front row. I think it's crazy that the parents would let them out of the house looking like they did. I'm not a prude but come on Second Grade! That's nuts. And then of course you have the skirts that seem to get shorter and shorter all the time. I use to have to wear uniforms and they're cheaper than having to buy the latest craze in fashion. Some have more expensive clothes that what I have. So for what you buy one pair of jeans you could probably get a whole outfit for the same price. A girl in my sons class wears jeans that are $50 !!! What in the world?!

I went to private school and I think that was one of the best things. I always knew what I was wearing to school and it made my morning faster. When having uniforms it was cheaper because we didn’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on new cloths at the beginning of the year. Kids grow out of cloths so fast; the school even had a lightly used uniforms sale.

Some schools already have a dress code. Would the uniforms be different? I mean what type of uniform are we talking about?

Its fascinating that when we attempt to make a positive change in the school system to begin some type of "regiment" and progression, people have to come up with concerns. The average person will save money on purchasing more clothing for school. Plus, lets remember that there are probably gov't dollars and programs out their that will help the less fortunate purchase these uniforms. Books and things inside the classroom are in fact needed, but we can't work outside the budget. Give this new CEO an "A" for making progress! We need more positive things to come from change!

No, I don't drink coffee, even though I get up at 2:30AM every morning. Todd Meany here, if you didn't guess. I do love working in the mornings though. The crew is great, and it's nice to be home in the afternoon so I can hang out with my 3 boys.
