I just got home from a really busy day at work, worn out, crabby, my feet hurt, I wanted a back rub...then I found this on a site I belong too..
This is dedicated to everyone whose had a bad day...
•the sound of running water makes you jump up and yell, "OUTSIDE!"
•you tell your dog to sit, and he backs up until he finds a chair
•it takes 3 people to get your dog on the scale at the vets
•you walk your dog and everyone knows him by name, but you have no idea who these people are
•you can carry on a conversation with a dog's muzzle firmly in your crotch
•you own a dog capable of pulling someone from a porta potty
•your dog can hide an entire tennis ball (among other things) fully inside his lips and give you that innocent look that says, "What? I'm not eating anything!"
•you carry a tape measure with you when shopping for a new vehicle
•you keep at least one color-coded "drool towel" in every room of your house
•after banishing your husband, the snoring in your bedroom still keeps you awake
•you are hiking with a friend who later suggests that you ought to have an environmental impact statement done on your dog
•visitors enter the house holding their privates protectively
•you toss your dog a ball and cringe when he almost hits his head on the top of the doorway
•you take your dog for a ride and he rests his head on your arm, causing you to make random right turns
•you have given up on water dishes and you just use the bathtub
•your two dogs decide to play in the house, and they end up pulling the ceiling fan down -- for the second time
•you have to move over when brushing your teeth because your dog wants a drink
•you show a picture of your dogs and kids together, and the first person you point out is your dog
•while stopped at a stop light, everyone stares as your car rocks back and forth because the dog is panting out the window
•you go to vacuum your car and most of the fur is up there on the ceiling
•you've learned to force a smile when asked "do you have a saddle for that thing?"
•the monthly dog budget exceeds your home mortgage payment
•your veterinarian has been able to put in a swimming pool, build a large home, buy jet skis and a personal plan
•you have had to train your dog not to lick dishes, and the dishes are in the sink
•the donuts you put on top of the refrigerator are gone when you get home and your dog has powdered sugar on his nose
•your dog can see what you're cooking, and he tries to assist you in the preparation
•you're holding him straddled between your legs when the doorbell rings, and you find yourself quickly transported straight to the front door
•the pizza delivery people tell you to meet them at the end of the sidewalk
•your dog stands in your lap and reaches over you to stick his head in the drive-through window at McDonald's and nearly gives the cashier a heart attack when she turns around to give you your change
•you purchase a large screen TV and you still can't see the program when he stands in front of the television
•after surgery, your bored pup decides to get up and cruise around the vet's office-- pulling the rolling IV stand behind him.

I have an older love seat, that is in pretty good shape, except the fabric is getting thin and is shredded in a few places..Mostly because the dogs sleep on it..
The cushions are attached, so I can't take them off to recover. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to re-upholster them???..
I shampooed it yesterday and it shredded some more..I have used throws, but would like something permanent...
.I can't afford to buy anything new right now..so any help would be greatly appreciated

Weather
Interesting weather we had down here last night...
All the channels said we were in a Thunderstorm watch...We watched all right..As lightning and wind and heavy rain were non-stop for over 2 hours..Ended up with over 3 inches of rain..
God put on a more spectacular fireworks show than any of the fairs..
Hubby wouldn't let me go out on the porch to take pictures...Too much lightning too close..
I love storms and this one is at the top of the list ...

On The top of the list for being a great Independence Day was meeting Jana and Erin..
What a wonderful surprise..It was like meeting someone you've known all your life, for the first time...That make sense???
Only had a few minutes to chat and talked about the beautiful place they met mr_wildflower and michelle for lunch...It seems like a perfect place for a blog a palooza..
This was my first craft show and I learned a lot about what sold and what didn't..I only had a week to get it all together, so don't think I did too bad..
The kids were the most fascinated with some of the rocks, and it was fun to tell them a little bit about the history..They also had the best taste, picked up on the most expensive..lol..of course Mom and Dad said NO...
Jana bought some lovely pieces and thank you so much, Will have a much better selection next time...
Need to get the hubby busy on some wood work...Yeah, right...
We were rained out about 1:30, so took down everything and headed home..
Hope everyone had as great and memorable Independence as I did...

I have a friend who is literally driving me crazy...
She is totally self-absorbed, only calls or comes by when she wants, or needs something, which is almost daily..
I don't think I'd mind as much, if she stayed more than 5 minutes after she gets what she comes for, ie, milk, bread, canned goods, spices, meat, leftovers, et al..
She is always asking me to give her stuff, like a pendant, I NEVER take off, knick-knacks, of which she has gotten a few..or anything that catches her eye..
Her husband makes 65,000 a year plus, as he is a plumber..But he keeps her on a tight lease as she is a compulsive shopper..She spent $600 a couple of days ago, just because the stuff was cheap..Then she had no money for groceries, et al..
She knows she has a problem, and is currently in therapy and trying out some medications...But most of the time, she doesn't take them, or overtakes them, like if one is good, 5 is better..If the doctors tells her what the problem may be, she dismisses it and self-diagnoses..Right now its Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome..The doctors told her she has Adult ADHD..boarding on Bi-Polar tendencies..This she doesn't want to hear..
I applaud her seeking help and have been supportive of her efforts, and I don't want to sound uncaring..Because I DO care..just would like to get a word in edgewise once in a while...lol
My husband is on SSD, and I am currently unemployed...I don't mind helping out, but enough is enough..
Any good suggestions I could use, to let her know, although I enjoy her company, and I am happy she is seeking help, I can't keep supporting her..I don't want to hurt her feelings...but
Someone please HElP

I live about 20 miles from the proposed area for a, Branson Type, entertainment center near Pinckneyville, Illinois..
While the economy of this area would get a great boost, I am not looking forward to a bunch of tourists tramping through..and all that goes with.. New Motel/Hotels, restaurants, gas stations, TRAFFIC, crime, new highways, et al..
I moved to the country to get away from masses of people, I was raised in Southern California, and lived in big cities for most of my life.. I remember when Disneyland, in California, was in the middle of orange groves, and Knotts Berry Farm, also in CA, was in the middle of berry fields..In a short few years, there was NO country left in a 50 mile, or better, radius..
I like where I live, I don't want to have to move again...LOL..
I Would appreciate your thoughts on this subject..

1944 : D-Day
Although the term D-Day is used routinely as military lingo for the day an operation or event will take place, for many it is also synonymous with June 6, 1944, the day the Allied powers crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, beginning the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control during World War II. Within three months, the northern part of France would be freed and the invasion force would be preparing to enter Germany, where they would meet up with Soviet forces moving in from the east.
With Hitler's armies in control of most of mainland Europe, the Allies knew that a successful invasion of the continent was central to winning the war. Hitler knew this too, and was expecting an assault on northwestern Europe in the spring of 1944. He hoped to repel the Allies from the coast with a strong counterattack that would delay future invasion attempts, giving him time to throw the majority of his forces into defeating the Soviet Union in the east. Once that was accomplished, he believed an all-out victory would soon be his.
On the morning of June 5, 1944, U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the supreme commander of Allied forces in Europe gave the go-ahead for Operation Overlord, the largest amphibious military operation in history. On his orders, 6,000 landing craft, ships and other vessels carrying 176,000 troops began to leave England for the trip to France. That night, 822 aircraft filled with parachutists headed for drop zones in Normandy. An additional 13,000 aircraft were mobilized to provide air cover and support for the invasion.
By dawn on June 6, 18,000 parachutists were already on the ground; the land invasions began at 6:30 a.m. The British and Canadians overcame light opposition to capture Gold, Juno and Sword beaches; so did the Americans at Utah. The task was much tougher at Omaha beach, however, where 2,000 troops were lost and it was only through the tenacity and quick-wittedness of troops on the ground that the objective was achieved. By day's end, 155,000 Allied troops--Americans, British and Canadians--had successfully stormed Normandy’s beaches.
For their part, the Germans suffered from confusion in the ranks and the absence of celebrated commander Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, who was away on leave. At first, Hitler, believing that the invasion was a feint designed to distract the Germans from a coming attack north of the Seine River, refused to release nearby divisions to join the counterattack and reinforcements had to be called from further afield, causing delays. He also hesitated in calling for armored divisions to help in the defense. In addition, the Germans were hampered by effective Allied air support, which took out many key bridges and forced the Germans to take long detours, as well as efficient Allied naval support, which helped protect advancing Allied troops.
Though it did not go off exactly as planned, as later claimed by British Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery--for example, the Allies were able to land only fractions of the supplies and vehicles they had intended in France--D-Day was a decided success. By the end of June, the Allies had 850,000 men and 150,000 vehicles in Normandy and were poised to continue their march across Europe.
The heroism and bravery displayed by troops from the Allied countries on D-Day has served as inspiration for several films, most famously The Longest Day (1962) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). It was also depicted in the HBO mini-series Band of Brothers (2001).

By July 2007, that's roughly how much the United States will have spent on the invasion, occupation and ongoing pacification of Iraq. (The total stands at roughly $360 billion now, by several estimates, and is expected to grow at a rate of $7 billion per month). Here are some other things that $400 billion would pay for:
-
A one-time bonus of $126,500 for every public school teacher in the United States
-
A $1,000 savings bond for every person in the United States, with $100 billion left over.
-
A 12-foot concrete wall, 2 feet thick and painted on both sides, along the whole border of the United States and Mexico, plus all the rest of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, 20 times over. (Razor wire and electric fencing extra; assembly required.)
-
Enough health insurance to cover 94.3 million people at the average annual premium cost for a health plan covering a single worker at $4,242; 46.6 million people are currently uninsured.
-
$23,158 for every student at any degree-granting institution for undergraduate or graduate education.
-
All the external debt of sub-Saharan Africa, which was $215.6 billion in 2005.
-
Seven soccer teams with David Beckhams playing all positions for a hundred years. (Beckham signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy last week for a reported $50 million a year.
-
-
Public financing of all presidential elections for the next 1,333 years.
-
-
A common three-drug combination of antiretroviral drugs for every HIV-positive person in the world - for more than 66 years.
-
NASA's plans to return Americans to the moon by the year 2020, with $170 billion left over.
-
A new Toyota Prius hybrid car for every licensed driver in Georgia, two years in a row, with more than 3 million Priuses left over.
-
A cash payment of $14,934 to every man, woman and child living in Iraq. Annual gross domestic product per capita is $1,900.
-
If someone handed you one dollar every second, it would take 12,683 years to give you $400 billion

Is there really a War on Drugs??
I was taking a break from the dreaded housework, and having a bite of lunch, and watching the History Channel..
During the approximate 3 or 4 minute commercial, there were 3 commercials for various kinds of drugs..
Cialis(sp)...for when 'you choose the time'
Pepcid..for your tummy
Ambien..to help you sleep
The possible side effects of these drugs, are far worse, in my opinion, than what they are trying to help or relieve..
'If you have trouble seeing, stop taking the drug and call your doctor????'
If you experience 'priaprism..an erection lasting longer than 4 hours' call your doctor???
If you stand up too fast...you may faint????
If you experience heartburn, this may be a sign of serious upper digestive disorder???
Do not drive or operate machinery, until you know how this drug will affect you ???
Sleeping aids may be habit forming????
Why take the stuff if its going to HELP one problem but make you experience nasty side effects???.
The major drug companies are rich and getting richer..
Are they testing enough??
Look how many recalls there have been ..
Lawyers are getting rich on lawsuits..
LadyCardFan, had her generic heart medication taken off the market, so she now has to pay double to triple for the name brand..
The major drug companies should take some of their record breaking profits and help those who have limited or no insurance..Maybe THEY would FEEL better about gouging the public for much needed medications..
I am lucky not to be on any, but my husband is..Several of his generics are now 'not available'..and his co-pay has gone up from $5.00 to $20.00..We are on a fixed income..so with this, the gasoline, the power, the propane, et al, forever rising in price...
What are we supposed to do???
Please let me hear your opinions...

Twice, in my past, I had the need to participate in the food stamp program..
This was a valuable lesson in how to budget and shop for food..We ate a lot of chicken, and on sale meats. Bought the store brand bread, and other goods as they were less expensive.
I learned how to stretch one meal into two. We didn't eat rich, but we ate good nutritional meals..
This habit has carried over and very rarely do I splurge on an expensive cut of meat..
What gets my goat, is the people who abuse the system. I have seen people sell their food stamps for 50cents on the dollar, then turn around and buy tobacco, and alcohol with the proceeds..One time a lady sold half her food stamps and bought Lotto tickets with the money, while 4 little kids hung on her shirt...
I went shopping with a friend, who was also on stamps, and was appalled at what she bought..Steak, specialty items, the good bread, frozen goods, almost all top dollar..Then I understood why she was always out of stamps by the middle of the month..
Whats wrong with this picture??
This system is in place to help supplement low income families until they can get on their feet..It seems some are happy to be on 'The Dole', and have no intentions of bettering themselves.
I was happy to see that they now put the allotment on a swipe card, instead of the book of stamps they used to issue... Harder now to sell for cash..
Both times I, unhappily, had to ask for assitance, I was never on the program for more than 3 months..As a single mother of two, at the time, I managed to feed the boys well, keep them reasonably well clothed and a roof over their heads..It can be done with determination and fortitude..
