I recieved this e-mail and thought it very interesting, I also went to Phillip Pullmans web site and yes unfortunalty it is true what they are saying about him. The Golden Compass is a must NOT see movie. Anyone who thinks that God is dead I for one will not support him.

here is the link you can check it out for yourselves

Just a movie y'all. Just a book. If you're faith is strong you can survive it. I remember when the Roman Catholic church codemned the exorcist. I saw it and it did not change my faith at all. Whatever happened to the what if in us? It is just pretend. What if Steven King believed all the stuff he has written?
Don't take entertainment so seriously. If I did I would never listen to the Beatles ever again.

I agree with you mechany. My faith is much stronger than any book or movie.

i think this book and movie are directed to kids who have not made up there minds yet, and who might start to question if God is real or not. and yes i know it is up to the parents to teach them.

marley I agree. It is directed to the kids and as a parent it is my job to educate them. This movie or the books would have no effect on me because my faith is strong. I know what I believe and what is real to me. But as an adult I will not go see something even for the sake of "entertainment" that goes against what I teach my kids and believe myself. If I tell them that something is not good for them then it is bad for me as well. It goes far above a book or a movie. If I tell my kids that gossiping is bad and it hurts people...then I better not be gossiping. We need to lead by example.
Children are very innocent and they learn by what they see, hear and by what we teach them.
I Peter 3:15 But dedicate your lives to Christ as Lord. Always be ready to defend your confidence in God when anyone asks you to explain it. However, make your defense with gentleness and respect.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Think on these things...not the things that this particular kind of entertainment would have you think on.
I don't want my kids seeing anything that deals with witchcraft, the occult, demons or the like. I also know from teaching kids for years that it has been proven that until a certain age they preceive everything as "real" to them.
You know your children and what you want to pass down to them as a legacy and

I know mine. I am not making any decisions for you or your family. Just know that not all that glitters is gold. NOt all people are true and just in this world, just watch the news for 5 minutes. There are people wrting and making movies for more reasons than entertainment. Some of it is to pass off their beliefs and their agenda to our kids.

candsw, just out of curiosity, did you allow your children to read Harry Potter or see the movies?
I remember all the hoopla about Harry Potter. A lot of people were saying it dealt with the occult and witchcraft.
I don't have a problem with movies/books dealing with occultism if it is done in a fantasy way.
For example, I would not allow my children to read a book teaching black magic or where the main character worshipped the devil.

I can see you're point candsw. It is up to us as parents to monitor what our children see and read. And to talk to our kids about it. I for one am happy my kids are grown now and can make up their own minds. I think we did a good job with them. All three turned out to be good responsible adults, and have made their own choices about their faith.

superjay I didn't allow them to read the books or see the movies. Varied reasons though. I have two that are prone to nightmares and when something is in their head it really sticks. We talk about it all the time. I teach kiddos age ranges from 5-16 and I have a book called Movie Nights and Movie Nights 2. It has Harry Potter in the back and it breaks down movies and allows you to use them to teach from a bibilical prespective. I think when they are older or with my older group of kids that I teach, I may use it sometime. But, not right now.

Mechany that is so awesome that they are raised and you can look and say we did a good job. All we all want for our kids is the best.

Whoa, didn't know this was so deep, as in the story has such a message. Makes me more interested in the books, lol. But don't worry, I am not so impressionable that seeing a movie or reading a fabtasy book will change my ways of thinking.

Imagination is great and makes it possible to see beyond the mundane or see that a different view of life is not to be villified.

Or that the people who believe or live differently from you are Not Bad People, inspite of what others may try to teach you.

I would allow my kid to read it and any other book in the library.

I would say to them "let your imagination run free. You live in a country where there is no thought police, exercise your right as an American."

I want my kids eyes wide open to everything under the sun, restricting them would cause them to live life in a box.

Living life in a box is what religion is all about.
