I am completely appalled by the fact that when I logged onto the Fox website the first thing I read about was the police beating, yet had to scroll down to retrieve information about our recently slain officer. Not saying that I agree or disagree with the actions of those officers involved in the beating, I do think that the public should understand the heightened uneasiness of our police department in light of recent events. What people fail to realize is the fact that our police officers, while once respected, are now being used for target practice. Three murdered cops in a two year period is a disgusting statistic which only validates the grim depiction of what other neighboring cities/states have of Philadelphia. The most recent slaying of Officer Liczbinski is made even more disheartening when you hear of the type of weapon used...an automatic assault weapon. There is no good reason for a weapon like that to be sold to any civilian. My point here is this: we are sending our police officers out to a war zone where the criminals are better armed. My suggestion would be to level the playing field by providing cops with those same military style weapons, however, we all know that will never happen. Getting back to the police beating, the only people that know all of the events leading up to the fight itself are the people that were actually there and that actually heard every word that was exchanged. So, instead of focusing on an incident that to me would be considered isolated, let’s look at the more common scenario of a police officer being murdered because that seems to happen more often. In closing, instead of constantly scrutinizing the actions of the police, maybe you could think about how hard their job must be, how worrisome it is for their family, and how they are doing it for you.
If you agree, thank you. If not, next time your car gets stolen please do not call the cops. Call a criminal. I’m sure they will help you get your car back.
