Fizzled Fireworks!
Philadelphia louses up once again, and the residents get dumped upon.

Went to the Parkway about 2 Pm, watched Patti Labelle and Hall & Oates in the downpour, then heard that the fierworks were cancelled. We adults had really enjoyed the show, but our little guy and all the kids around us were so let down, since to them all the singers were just "Old Heads". On our way home on I-95, the kiddo looks out the rear window and sees the fireworks going off.

We are really angry about this mishandling of the event. It was a huge dissapointment for all the children who waited up to see the fireworks.

Who cares about us poor stupid taxpayers, just as long as the city government gets its money out of us any way they can.

Well, November is coming and we vote. And this voter has a long memory.

Well, me and my hubby went out to the Parkway at about 10pm, only really coming out for the fireworks. We didn't feel that the festival, parade, or concert were worth braving that weather all day. But we did stand out there getting drenched for a good half an hour before we got the crappy news.

We considered hanging around anyway in case the rain let up and they changed their mind. But when we heard the crowd rumbling of disappointment we hauled tail outta there (Philly has a reputation for not handling disappointment very well!). Then, as we walked up the steps to our house, we heard the booms. We looked at each other with disbelief. My husband said it could be fireworks from somewhere else. But I already knew the sound of the tradition I grew up with. It's certainly heard for miles. We rushed in the house to the tv and turned to channel 6 (sorry Fox)and low and behold...Well, at least we got to SEE the fireworks...just hope we don't end up sick from standing in the rain like fools.

I have to 'blog' on this subject. To start with, I can't believe the concert went on in that torrential downpour. Remember Woodstock?
"No Rain" "No Rain".
Anyway, though the fireworks can still detonate in that weather, like 'bombs bursting in air'. it was hard to imagine anyone actually still standing in what looked liked a monsoon on TV. I'm sure the people leaving could still see them in the air and at least they were now sitting in their dry cars. And there was an enormous TV audience, I was one of them, though I fell asleep before they started anyway.
Relax everyone. If this was your largest letdown this week, this month, or this year, count your blessings. The show is put on for everyone as a gift not a God given right and apparently Mother Nature was really testing Philadelphia. I think it rained like that on July 4 1776 and they were trying to start a nation and didn't even have Ultimate Dopplar to warn them.
