As the world awaits the ultra-harmonious "One World, One Dream" Olympics in China, the South China Morning Post is reporting that bar owners in the Beijing area are being told by authorities to refuse service to black patrons:

Bar owners near the Workers' Stadium in central Beijing say they have been forced by Public Security Bureau officials to sign pledges agreeing not to let black people enter their premises.

"Uniformed Public Security Bureau officers came into the bar recently and told me not to serve black people or Mongolians," said the co-owner of a western-style bar, who asked not to be named.

Sorry Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Michael Redd, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Chris Paul, Tayshaun Prince and Deron Williams...

No Tsingtao for you!!

Looks like Jason Kidd will be drinking alone this summer.

CRAWFORD, Texas - Jenna Bush couldn't see herself getting married at the White House surrounded by antique furniture and oil portraits of presidents. So she and Henry Hager said "I do" Saturday at President Bush's ranch in Crawford where the corn is thigh-high, roads are named 'Cattle Drive' and the Texas flag is painted on the rooftops of barns.

"This is a joyous occasion for our family, as we celebrate the happy life ahead of her and her husband, Henry," Bush said. "It's also a special time for Laura who this Mother's Day weekend will watch a young woman we raised together walk down the aisle."

The president and the bride picked "You Are So Beautiful" for their father and daughter dance.

Below is a photograph of U.S. Marine Ty Ziegel and his wife Renee on their wedding day.

Sergeant Ziegel, 26, was injured during his second tour of George Bush's war in Iraq. He was trapped in a burning truck that had been targeted by a suicide bomber. The heat melted the flesh from his face and after returning to the United States, he spent 18 months in Brooke Army Medical Center, not far from the happy Bush compound in Texas.

Ziegel's injuries led to the loss of his left forearm and of three fingers of his right hand. He was rendered blind in his right eye. He also sustained widespread severe burns that led to the loss of his ears and much of the tissue on his face. His shattered skull was replaced by a plastic dome, and a face was constructed more or less from scratch with salvaged tissue, holes left where his ears and nose had been.

Despite the range and severity of his injuries, and after over 50 operations, Ty recovered enough to leave the hospital to marry his longtime sweetheart, Renee Kline,
in 2006.

They lived together in Illinois until their separation last year.

Most certainly, Sgt. Ziegel joins all Americans in sending best wishes for continued health and prosperity to the Bush family on their "most joyous occasion".

Thursday (5/1/08) marks the fifth anniversary of George Bush's dramatic 'MISSION ACCOMPLISHED' landing on an aircraft carrier homebound from his war.

"Major combat operations in Iraq have ended!" a triumphant Bush proclaimed that day. "The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on Sept. 11, 2001!"

(Say what?)

Now in its sixth year, the war in Iraq has claimed the lives of at least 4,061 members of the U.S. military. Only the Vietnam War (August 1964 to January 1973), the war in Afghanistan (October 2001 to present) and the Revolutionary War (July 1776 to April 1783) have engaged America longer.

At least 49 U.S. troops died in Iraq in April 2008, making it the deadliest month since September '07, when 65 U.S. troops died.

"So?" laughed Dick Cheney, in an interview last month. "They all volunteered, didn't they?"

Bush, in a speech earlier this month, said: "While this war is difficult, it is not endless."

Of course, it could continue for... "a hundred years"... if John McCain has his way.

Happy anniversary to one and all!

So...

Which is worse: the subliminal (mostly quiet) racism practiced here in Milwaukee, or the
blatant overt bigotry that is trumpeted by our loving Christian brethren in the South?

JONESVILLE, S.C. -- A sign is causing heated arguments outside of a church in Jonesville.

Pastor Roger Byrd of Jonesville Church of God put the sign up which reads "Obama Osama humm are they brothers?"

Pastor Byrd says the sign is not meant to be racial or political but rather to make people think. "His name is so close to Osama, I have a feeling he might be Islamic therefore he doesn't recognize Christ," Pastor Byrd said.

Barack Obama attends Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

Pastor Byrd says that the church congregation voted unanimously to keep the sign up Sunday night.

Jonesville Church of God does not have any African American members.

Ever wonder who provides financial support for a polygamist child raping fundamentalist cult?

Just ask George Bush, because it turns out his Pentagon contributed nearly two million of our tax dollars to the pedophiles' cause -- despite the fact that the cult's notorious leader was on the lam and featured prominently on the FBI's Most-Wanted List!!

"Yer doin' a good job, Jeffy!"

art.warren.jpg

NEW YORK -- The U.S. government paid more than $1.7 million in defense contracts over the last decade to companies owned by leaders of Warren Jeffs' polygamous sect, with tens of thousands allegedly winding its way back to Jeffs and his church.

The Pentagon had contracts with three companies with ties to Warren Jeffs' polygamous sect.

In fact, some of the deals were made after Jeffs was named to the FBI's "Most-Wanted List" and remained in place while he was on the run.

CNN has learned that between 1998 and 2007, the United States Air Force and Defense Logistics Agency purchased more than $1.7 million worth of airplane parts from three companies owned by members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which practices polygamy.

Those companies are Utah Tool and Die, Western Precision and NewEra Manufacturing. Today, the companies all operate under the name NewEra Manufacturing, a company based in Las Vegas, Nevada, that says it supplies precision components "for the aerospace, military, medical, recreational and other commercial entities."

"It was my understanding that Western Precision was paying roughly $50,000 a week into the coffers of the church," former sect member Richard Holm said. "It would have been close to $200,000 a month."

Holm said he helped build Western Precision.

Here's something for all our local self-proclaimed 'patriots' to consider as they fill their gas tanks with $3.49 per gallon gasoline this week...

The Iraqi government is running a surplus of at least $30 billion from oil profits, while U.S. taxpayers continue to foot the bill for that nation's reconstruction and military training, during that nation's civil war...

At a cost to us of $12 billion per month!

Also, dear wingnuts, please keep in mind that while the citizens of Iraq are charged only $1.36 per gallon at the pump -- your American military is currently spending approximately $3.25 per gallon to fill their vehicles during the ongoing occupation...almost as much as we're all paying here in Wisconsin!

Good job, King George!

"MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"...indeed!

The number of U.S. soldiers to die in Iraq has reached 4,000, the U.S. military said on Monday, just days after the fifth anniversary of a war that George W. Bush still insists the United States is on track to win.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll showed nearly two-thirds of Americans believe the war was not worth waging.

Told about the poll in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America," Vice President Dick Cheney, in Oman after a visit to Iraq, said: "So?" He added: "I think we cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations of the public opinion polls."

In a video conference with U.S. military and civilian personnel in Afghanistan Thursday, our lame duck commander-in-chief declared :

"I must say, I'm a little envious. If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed. It must be exciting for you … in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks."

Here's a question for all the 'patriots' who profess to 'support our troops' :

How do you justify allowing this delusional simpleton to continue to send American young men and women off to die in a real life conflict (at a cost of $12 billion per month)?

Please note that Mr. Bush, when he was younger and not employed anywhere, refused his own chance for a romantic fling with danger in the jungles of Southeast Asia.

Fair and Balanced -- and ever so sensitive!

Opening his radio show with funeral music yesterday, Fox News host John Gibson callously mocked the death of actor Heath Ledger, calling him a “weirdo” with a “serious drug problem.”

Playing an audio clip of the iconic quote, “I wish I knew how to quit you” from Ledger’s gay romance movie 'Brokeback Mountain', Gibson disdainfully quipped, “Well, he found out how to quit you.” Laughing, Gibson then played another clip from 'Brokeback Mountain' in which Ledger said, “We’re dead,” followed by his own, mocking “We’re dead” before playing the clip again.

UPDATE:
On his radio show, Fox News host John Gibson responded to ThinkProgress’ criticism of his comments mocking the death of Heath Ledger, saying that it was just “a little Brokeback Mountain joke” and there is “no point in passing up a good joke.”

Dear Brad:

Your California roots are showing...

In your Wednesday night 'news' report on the memorabilia at Brett Favre's Steakhouse, you displayed an old photograph of Vince Lombardi with Paul Hornung and another player of whom you remarked: "Look at this guy's face, does that not say it all?"

Well, as any true Packers fan (indeed, any true pro football fan) could tell you, that "guy" happened to be Jim Taylor, the legendary record-setting fullback for Green Bay's glory teams of the 1960s. He's a thirty year Hall of Famer, and one of the most famous Packers of all time.

Shame! Even if you didn't recognize Taylor's mug, how much investigative journalism would it have taken to properly identify him for your story? All you had to do was ask anyone in the restaurant.

Best regards,
ifilus

Oak Hill Capital Partners traces its roots to Robert M. Bass, one of the four brothers who founded Bass Brothers Enterprises in Fort Worth, Texas.Robert Muse Bass is a Texas billionaire worth approximately $5.46 billion as of 2006.

Bass was born into an extremely wealthy family with an uncle, Sid Richardson, worth $810 million. He and his three brothers Lee, Ed, and Sid Bass all attended Yale University, where they solidified their moneyed and political connections.

Ed Bass was a classmate and personal friend of George W. Bush, and the brothers, especially Lee Bass, helped Bush financially both before and throughout his political career.

Working together with his brothers as Bass Brothers Enterprises and independently, Robert Bass made many lucrative investments through his own firm, the Robert M. Bass Group, later Keystone Inc. Most recently, in 2004 he started Aerion Corp to develop supersonic corporate jets, which is the beneficiary of lucrative Federal DARPA contracts.

Wonder what, if any, effect the new Republican ownership will have on WITI's fair and balanced coverage of the upcoming elections?

Do you really care about our troops Mr. Bush?

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments due to combat injuries.

To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases. Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.

One of them is Jordan Fox, a young soldier from the South Hills. He finds solace in the hundreds of boxes he loads onto a truck in Carnegie. In each box is a care package that will be sent to a man or woman serving in Iraq. It was in his name Operation Pittsburgh Pride was started.

Fox was seriously injured when a roadside bomb blew up his vehicle. He was knocked unconscious. His back was injured and lost all vision in his right eye. A few months later Fox was sent home. His injuries prohibited him from fulfilling three months of his commitment. A few days ago, he received a letter from the military demanding nearly $3,000 of his signing bonus back.

"I tried to do my best and serve my country. I was unfortunately hurt in the process. Now they're telling me they want their money back," he explained.

It's a slap for Fox's mother, Susan Wardezak, who met with President Bush in Pittsburgh last May. He thanked her for starting Operation Pittsburgh Pride which has sent approximately 4,000 care packages. He then sent her a letter expressing his concern over her son's injuries, so she cannot understand the U.S. Government's apparent lack of concern over injuries to countless U.S. Soldiers and demands that they return their bonuses.

While he's unsure of his future, Fox says he's unwavering in his commitment to his country."I'd do it all over again... because I'm proud of the discipline that I learned. I'm proud to have done something for my country," he said.

But Fox feels like he's already given enough. He'll never be able to pursue his dream of being a police officer because of his wounds and he can't believe he's being asked to return part of his $10,000 signing bonus.

KDKA contacted Congressman Jason Altmire on his behalf. He says he has proposed a bill that would guarantee soldiers receive full benefit of bonuses.

Pentagon Paid $998,798 to Ship Two 19-Cent Washers

Aug. 16 (Bloomberg) -- A small South Carolina parts supplier collected about $20.5 million over six years from the Pentagon for fraudulent shipping costs, including $998,798 for sending two 19-cent washers to an Army base in Texas, U.S. officials said.

The company also billed and was paid $455,009 to ship three machine screws costing $1.31 each to Marines in Habbaniyah, Iraq, and $293,451 to ship an 89-cent split washer to Patrick Air Force Base in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Pentagon records show.

AP - SAN FRANCISCO - Army medical examiners were suspicious about the close proximity of the three bullet holes in Pat Tillman’s forehead and tried without success to get authorities to investigate whether the former NFL player’s death amounted to a crime, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

“The medical evidence did not match up with the, with the scenario as described,” a doctor who examined Tillman’s body after he was killed on the battlefield in Afghanistan in 2004 told investigators.

The doctors - whose names were blacked out - said that the bullet holes were so close together that it appeared the Army Ranger was cut down by an M-16 fired from a mere 10 yards or so away.

In other words, Pat Tillman was most likely murdered in the field. In cold blood. By other US soldiers.

This must be what the Bush Administration was trying so desperately to hide behind their all purpose “Executive Privilege” shield.

Among other information contained in the documents:

_ In his last words moments before he was killed, Tillman snapped at a panicky comrade under fire to shut up and stop “sniveling.”

_ Army attorneys sent each other congratulatory e-mails for keeping criminal investigators at bay as the Army conducted an internal friendly-fire investigation that resulted in administrative, or non-criminal, punishments.

_ The three-star general who kept the truth about Tillman’s death from his family and the public told investigators some 70 times that he had a bad memory and couldn’t recall details of his actions.

_ No evidence at all of enemy fire was found at the scene - no one was hit by enemy fire, nor was any government equipment struck.

The Pentagon and the Bush administration have been criticized in recent months for lying about the circumstances of Tillman’s death. The military initially told the public and the Tillman family that he had been killed by enemy fire. Only weeks later did the Pentagon acknowledge he was gunned down by fellow Rangers.

Tillman’s mother, Mary Tillman, who has long suggested that her son was deliberately killed by his comrades, said she is still looking for answers and looks forward to the congressional hearings next week.

“Nothing is going to bring Pat back. It’s about justice for Pat and justice for other soldiers. The nation has been deceived,” she said.

Of all the disgraceful, sickening things our country has done in the name of “spreading liberty” in the Great War on Terror, this one is a real prize-winner.
