.....And becoming a major contributor to the growing food crisis world wide?

Are we, in our mad rush to save the planet from an upcoming man-made climate disaster, (which, of course, is simply a theory), aiding and abetting a problem that is a proven fact ?

Now, even some in the United Nations ( a strong proponent of Kyoto driven protocols) are beginning to realize the folly of their actions..........

"The reality is that people are dying already," said Jacques Diouf, of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). "Naturally people won't be sitting dying of starvation, they will react," he said.
The UN says it takes 232kg of corn to fill a 50-litre car tank with ethanol. That is enough to feed a child for a year. Last week, the UN predicted "massacres" unless the biofuel policy is halted."

"The world food situation is very serious: we have seen riots in Egypt, Cameroon, Haiti and Burkina Faso," said Mr Diouf. "There is a risk that this unrest will spread in countries where 50pc to 60pc of income goes to food," he said.

Haiti's government fell over the weekend following rice and bean riots. Five died.

Even some in our Government are beginning to realize the severity of this crisis...

Representative Jim McGovern, Democrat of Massachusetts, said he had come to realize that Congress made a mistake in backing biofuels, not anticipating the impact on food costs. He said Congress needed to reconsider its policy, though he acknowledged that would be difficult.

“If there was a secret vote, there is a pretty large number of people who would like to reassess what we are doing,” he said.

One more quote from Mr. Diouf....
Mr Diouf says world grain stocks have fallen to a quarter-century low of 5m tonnes, rations for eight to 12 weeks. America - the world's food superpower - will divert 18pc of its grain output for ethanol this year, chiefly to break dependency on oil imports. It has a 45pc biofuel target for corn by 2015.
-------------------------------------------------------

-----------

Now , there is even talk of cutting down carbon absorbing rain forest in south America to grow crops to meet the ever increasing demand...............ABSURD!

In my opinion, this is a classic example of not 'looking' before you 'leap'. Or, at the very least, making sure you have a reason to 'leap'.

Also, It's food for though (no pun intended) the next time you wonder about the price of groceries, or think about buying that new 'hybrid' vehicle.

BTW......Biofuels are not the sole reason for this crisis, but they are a major contributor.

Yes we do need to look before we leap ibejim! I haven't gotten brainwashed or gored by the moonbats! That poster child needs to start telling the truth...if he's able to! Besides, a little bit of CO2 is good for the trees and grass...we need some of those gases to reproduce our food crops...the plants release plenty of oxygen from photosyntheses processes. A biology lesson that's remained in my memory!!

From 'Business Day'....

Last week, as the prices of wheat and barley continued their relentless climb, the Japanese Government discovered it had exhausted its ¥230 billion ($A2.37 billion) budget for the grains with two months remaining. It was forced to call on an emergency ¥55 billion reserve to ensure it could continue feeding the nation.

"This was the first time the Government has had to take such drastic action since the war," said Akio Shibata, an expert on food imports, who warned the Agriculture Ministry two years ago that Japan would have to cut back drastically on its sophisticated diet if it did not become more self-sufficient.

The situation has been compounded by a surge in demand for bio-fuels such as ethanol, made from maize, encouraging farmers around the world to divert their efforts away from wheat and barley and into maize, further driving up prices.

Scary, Isn't it? THE FIRST TIME SINCE WW TWO!!!

It is scary....we're burning our food supply!! For the first time in our history we're going to have to import wheat to this country!! So much land is being used to grown corn for ethanol that we're no longer able to support ourselves. The whole Ethanol thing is one of the biggest scams on the American public ever. I posted a blog on the whole situation but Fox refused to put it on the Community blog,......twice.

Some of these environ "mental" morons are forgetting that there are more forms of alcohol which will burn as fuel, and we don't have to burn our grains to make them...methanol for example is "wood alcohol"... let's use our trash paper for example to make it...a bunch of morons who got their brains "Gored" by the poster child of global swarming...oh wait, maybe they had a shot of Absolut moonshine...ha ha!

There are problems with everything in this world. I think the solution is to ride the freaking bus and use a bike instead of driving down the block. If people were to just do that, we wont be running out of things so quickly. I believe there is no one to blame but ourselves.

Read your blog jteamaz, excellent job!

Mystere - You missed your calling! you should do political commentary/satire, you have certainly have a talent for it! Great idea about the methanol also. Maybe start a methanol refining business, and make algor(p) the chairman of the board, then you might get some action!

PoopAttack - I have a blogging friend in Dallas who's thinking about getting a horse. :)

There are ups and downs to every fuel alternative.

Ethanol is worse for the ozone layer than regular gasoline.

Production of battery cells for electric cars has killed an entire region of a Canadian wildlife sanctuary with acid rain.

The best idea for now is slant drilling the rest of the available oil in the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico until we can set up a hydrogen infrastructure, which will take about 20 years.

Other than that we need to invade Mexico and seize Pemex for our own uses. They owe us at least that much.

I think I'll need an ebonics translator for PoopAttack's illiterate posts, another reason we shouldn't be letting these peasants take over America.

But to answer your question, yes Jedd, Los Angeles allowed that protest. That's because our corrupt mayor and 90% of the state's government is hispanic and works on behalf of the Mexican government. But not for long. Ex Mecha members like Fabian Nunez are starting to get booted, Gil Cedillo as well. Mayor Vivalaraza's next!

Not sure how many traffic accidents those illegal alien criminals with the signs caused, but the traffic itself was great that day, because all the illegals refused to go to work that day. They flooded the streets and waved their Mexican flags but stayed off the roads. I've never seen better road conditions, and although they tried to boycott American goods, the economy went through the roof that day, because AMERICANS bought double.

They thought that THIS would win them sympathy, but instead it turned the entire country against the idea of amnesty, FOREVER!

Hope they do it again this year, on Mayday, that famous Communist holiday they always choose for their rallies.

See if you can spot any AMERICAN FLAGS in that crowd. Then count the number of MEXICAN ones.

They really love America don't they?
