Much has been made about Annette Ziegler and her troubles before being elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court (SCOWI).
For those of you who have not heard ,Justice Ziegler found herself in front of the Ethics Board for Not recusing herself from case brought in front of her court involving foreclosures with West Bend Savings Bank in which her husband is an active Board Member. (Arguements could also be made regarding any case in which any member of the Wisconsin Manufacters and Commerce is involved in a case coming up to SCOWI, and whether Justice Ziegler should recuse herself from those cases as well)
Justice Butler on the other hand, as ACTIVELY taken "campaign contributions" from attorneys with CURRENT cases in front of the Supreme Court. (Wisconsin v. Menasha Corp.)
What I find to be most interesting is that this all comes down to exactly one THING. POLITICS.
The newspapers in the State of Wisconsin are all calling for Ziegler's head on a platter, while in the same breath, saying "This will have no bearing on Justice Butlers ability to remain Impartial."
To which I ask these questions:
Why the double standard?
Is Butlers indiscretion any different because we all know he will rule against Menasha Corp anyway? and Finally
How would you handle this?
