You think you have problems up there... how would you like this one???   We cater to these people every second of every day, the least they can do is speak English.

Woman Warned for Speaking Spanish at Work

A cell phone assembly line worker says she is afraid she could lose her job for speaking Spanish at work.

Julie Rios said she has received verbal and written warnings for talking in her native language, even though, she said, she was not informed about the rule when she was hired.

Rios, who was hired by temp company CoWorx, has been working at a North Texas plant for 10 months. But in February, she was issued a written warning about speaking Spanish.

The memo issued by CoWorx read: "You are being issued your first written warning for not adhering to company policy by speaking English only when communicating with others on the production floor."

Expecting a baby in May, Rios expressed concern about speaking out publicly against the policy. However, she said she felt compelled to do so because she believes it is unfair.

"This is my first language -- Spanish -- and it's hard for me sometimes when I'm speaking. I have to stop and think what I'm going to say in English," Rios said.

She said supervisors have been cracking down and told her she could not say "hola," but "hi."

CoWorx's parent company, Foxconn, did not specifically address the allegations made by Rios, but issued the following written statement.

"Foxconn is a minority-owned international company with numerous locations throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia. Due to the extensive diversity of the company and the great plethora of languages spoken at our various global locations, it is necessary to ensure that business meetings are conducted in a consistent language to ensure solid communication between all parties and avoid any potential misunderstandings."

Despite the policy, Rios claims some workers on the assembly floor can't speak any English and need others to translate. She also said that her coworkers who don't speak Spanish have not complained to her about her speaking another language.

"I don't think it's right. I have the right to speak whatever language I want … They knew we were Mexicans," she said. "They shouldn't have hired Mexican people."    Amen sister... you said a mouthful there!

That last sentence says a mouth-full. Many of these immigrants (not all) believe they have carte blanche to do as they wish in this country. Combine that with the fact that so many refuse to assimilate into our culture, instead believing they can force their culture down out throats, It's no wonder Americans get pissed of.

What makes them think that we should adjust to their ways, instead of them to ours?

That's right ibejim.... I have been to Mexico a few times and there isn't a smiling mexican standing on every corner translating for spanish into English for us. If the Government would start enforcing the I-9 form and heavily penalizing employers who hire illegals, it would help tremendously. Also if landlords would require that tenants complete an I-9 form with every apartment or home that is rented, it would also help. Down here in Texas, it is not uncommon to see a small 1,200 sq ft. home with 8 families of illegals living in it. This lady may be legal, but she need to speak English while she is at work... too bad if it takes her longer to translate it in her head,if she doesn't like it, she can move back to where her foreign tongue is accepted as the national language.

Duh, does this stupid woman realize that she lives in America. She needs to speak English if she plans to live here. If she does not want to speak the language, they she can just take her refried bean fat @ss back to her country!!!!! As Joey Vento says "THIS IS AMERICA--SPEAK ENGLISH"!!!!!

wow its shocking to see how rude and ignorant people can be. whats so wrong about speaking your native tongue?? its not like shes not making the conscious effort to speak spanish. the statement made by the company said "business meetings", last time i checked talking to a coworker on the assembly line isnt a business meeting. i've read many comments posted on blogs here and i realize why it is that people have such a rotten image about americans. this country was built on the backs of immigrants and that is still true to this day. if you speak to someone from another country whether they speak perfect english or not you will notice they have an extreme pride in their culture and history.this is not something that should be looked down on, if anything we should learn from these people, because whether you want to accept it or not the U.S. is in a messed up situation. there are people of all races, ethnicities, backgrounds, and income brackets committing crimes, catching fatal diseases, being victimized and abused. for a country that prides itself in being that one place in the world where anyone can go from having nothing to having everything there sure are extremely close-minded people in it. this is a "free" country and we have the right to speak our minds but when we are ignorant, naive, rude, and use language and phrases that are extremely uncalled for not only do we make the situation worse but we lose respect. what people need to understand is that discriminating against someone because they speak another language or have different views and ways of living is just plai

This country was build on the back of immigrants who assimilated themselves into a society, and learned a common language...ENGLISH! They didn't expect their new country to kowtow to them, they didn't hang American flags upside down under Mexican flags and they didn't march in the streets demanding that their fellow countryman be allowed to stay in this country illegally.

Funny, people always talk about America's rotten image, but, awnser me this...

Answer me this...If America is so rotten, why are so many people trying to get INTO America? Personally, I have no problem with people speaking their native language, just make the effort to learn the language of your new country, which, more than likley, is providing you an opportunity to live a better life. Is that asking too much?

So miss sassy, If you want to sit upon your high-horse and self-righteously judge everyone else, go right ahead. But, the fact remains, you should adjust to your new country, not your new country to you.

Yeah, I guess I was asking for to much. God forbid she should have to stop and think! What an inconveinance!

Ibejim Sassy has classified herself. The lady who prefers to speak in her native tongue should return to the nation she has fled and speak in the native tongue all she wants to, meanwhile, when in America, she should speak in our native tongue and that is English. It is funny how those who side with the illegals are quick to call the rest of us ignorant when the real mental cripples are the ones who have their arms open, holding a welcome sign and encouraging these people to continue to invade America. I have never been for building a fence along the border, it doesn't work. Land mines would.

By the way Sassy, the only ones with true "rights" in this Country are those who are legal citizens, who pay taxes like everyone else and contribute to society, not drain the social system. Citizenship is only way these people will ever have rights and until they are willing to enter the USA legally, they are not legal, they are criminals and they have no rights.

I'm tired of us bending over, grabbing our ankles and letting these immigrants shaft us up the rear. The responses from this post show that we want to get our country back. I've been to Greece, France, Italy, Spain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Turkey and Puerto Rico. No one changed their language for me and I wouldn't expect them too.

touchy subject..lol.. dnt get ur panties in a bunch the point i was trying to make which was so obviously overlooked was that she does speak english but theres nothing wrong with having a converstaion in a language you are comfortable with. assimilation is one thing but being forced to go against your nature is wrong and, yes people, ignorant. obviously shes trying to assimilate by learning the laguage and working. im tired of people blaming non-english speakers, whether legal or otherwise, for america's problems. our economy isnt going down the toilet because a few immigrants are getting paid below minimum wage and no ladies and gentlemen they are not taking all those great jobs that people cant seem to find. they have jobs that most americans who have assimilated wouldnt consider. the fact that so many jobs are being outsourced is why everything sucks. thats why people are losing their jobs and thats why prices are being hiked up. your taxes are so high and such a burden not because of illegals but because government officials dont know how to correctly use funds. i am all for supporting our troops but at what cost?? i have family who i pray for over there every day, and all the money that has been used on it, is for what? our family members and friends are still dying, funds are being decreased for social services and drugs and STD's have taken over our country. maybe we shouldnt focus so much on whether jose doesnt speak english or muhammad doesnt have papers but on fixing home before butting into other countries problems. and the reason people view america as rotten a

and the reason people view america as rotten and ignorant is because at the end of the day it is. take a step back stop being so close minded and prejudiced and look at the comments you just made, look at how you just talked about a person whose "crime" was having a private conversation in a different language and being worried about not being able to provide for her family. how about you focus on helping raise funds for victims of domestic violence or fight for better education for our children. america like every other empire will most likely fall if its people dont gain some common sense and do things the right way. we are using illegals as scapegoats. we seem to have forgotten that before assimilating we were the immigrants and worst of all we were the invaders. come on people is it really necessary to spread more hate and ignorance?? no it isnt but as selfish human beings we thrive on others down falls and one day thats going to bite us in the ass because we seem incapable of taking care of home.

Funny, I looked back at the posts on this thread and I didn't see anyone blaming immigrants for all of America's problems, (although illegal immigration is a huge problem). My families forefathers came to this country and worked their asses off in menial job's and learned the language. People are forced to go against their nature in a democratic society every day, It's called give and take, part of the territory with a diverse society. What make her so special?

"come on people is it really necessary to spread more hate and ignorance?? no it isnt but as selfish human beings we thrive on others down falls and one day thats going to bite us in the ass because we seem incapable of taking care of home.".....That, sassy, is your opinion. Please remember one thing...It is JUST an opinion, nothing more.
