I think we need a closer look at what the Democrats back and the Republicans:

7/19/07 Vote 262: On the Motion: Motion to Waive CBA Stabenow Amdt. No 2358; Relative to illegal aliens qualifying for Social Security benefits. Republicans No, Democrats Yes, So democrats feel our social security should go to illegals

6/19/07 Vote 213: H R 6: Bunning Amdt. No. 1628; To provide standards for clean coal-derived fuels. Republicans Yes, Democrats No, including Obama and Biden.

6/14/07 Vote 212: H R 6: Warner Amdt. No. 1566, As Modified; To authorize the State of Virginia to petition for authorization to conduct natural gas exploration and drilling activities in the coastal zone of the State. Democrats no, Republicans yes.

6/9/07 Vote 68: On the Cloture Motion: Motion to Invoke Cloture on Cornyn Amdt. No. 312, As Modified; To prohibit the recruitment of persons to participate in terrorism, to clarify that the revocation of an alien's visa or other documentation is not subject to judicial review, to strengthen the Federal Government's ability to detain dangerous criminal aliens, including murderers, rapists, and child molesters, until they can be removed from the United States, to prohibit the rewarding of suicide bombings and allow adequate punishments for terrorists murders, kidnappings, and sexual assaults, and for other purposes. 3/13/08 Vote 61: On the Motion: Motion to Waive C.B.A. Cornyn Amdt. No. 4242; To protect the family budget by providing for a budget point of order against legislation that increases income taxes on taxpayers, including hard-working middle-income families, entrepreneurs, and college students. Republicans Yes, Democrats No, so the Democrats claim they want to watch out for middle and lower incomes but this is their votes.

3/13/08 Vote 66: S CON RES 70: Allard Amdt. No. 4232; To pay down the Federal debt and eliminate government waste by reducing spending 5 percent on programs rated (as mandated under the Government Performance and Results Act (Public Law 103-62)) ineffective by the Office of
Management and Budget Program Assessment Rating Tool. Republicans Yes, Democrats No, So they don’t want to cut down on wasteful spending either.

This is from a site that post the voting of congress memebers and the parties votes. It show how their party as a whole feels and how the person voting voted. So this is what Democrats actually feel as versus Republicans and you can go look it up and see the same results. By the way Obama and Biden voted with their party on these Bills.
