The USA loves bottled water. We spend billions every year on the marketing of "pure water", or "mountain spring" and we vision crystal clear streams and waterfalls as we load our carts with bottles of water.
A recent report stated that the best-selling national brand of bottled water, was "no cleaner than the cheapest store brand". It is estimated that bottled water sells in supermarkets for over 200,000 times more than tap water. Wow! Talk about a markup. I recently read that Coca-Cola and Pepsi predict that within a short time, water will create more revenue for them than any other product they sell. No wonder everyone is tapping into the bottled water market.
If you find yourself buying bottled water like me, you may be interested in what I found to be a great money saving alternative. Whether you buy bottled water because your home water quality is poor or you do not trust the drinking water these days, I found just the solution.
I've been buying bottled water for years. I began to realize how much money was being spent in water. A typical store brand sale item costs $12 for (2) 35 packs. That calculates to 17 cents per bottle. With my average size family, sometimes I'd find myself buying 2 cases a week! Never knew water could cost almost $50 a month did you? Add it up and you'll see. I finally said "enough!"
I found an impressive water filter that installs on the cold water side under your kitchen sink. Now let me say that there are several kinds of water filters. Do not be compelled to buy a "whole house" water filter. These make no sense to me. Why in the world would you want to filter the water that you shower in, or water used to fill toilets, wash laudry or water the lawn? It simply makes no sense. I found a cool water filter on McMaster's web site: http://www.mcmaster.com (enter "water filter" in the search box). This mounts out of view under your sink, or in the basement that feeds your kitchen sink cold water ONLY. The cartidge only needs a replacing every 6 months. It works by activated charcoal, one of the most effective type of filtration methods. Activated charcoal filters can kill over 600 types of known organisms, and works well against bacteria. The filter costs $31 and the cartridge costs $10. This will pay itself off in no time at all! Say goodbye to paying for Earth's most abundent element...
Finally, in my opionion, stay away from distilled water. Your body needs minerals. "Pure" water has no benefit and can lead to health problems. Dentists are seeing more kids with cavities. Hmmm... could it be because kids are hitting bottled water, rather than the chlorinated (cavity fighting) tap water?
So with the water filter I use, I have a designated faucet in the kitchen for filtered great tasting water. I am so glad that I pass the water aisle now.... Hope this helps you save some money.
